@11:00 thats a DR30 Skyline Steve, nicknamed Iron Man because some models had a grille that looks like Iron Mans helmet. They came with the FJ20 Turbo motor which was a CRAZY popular swap here in Australia in the late 90's/2000's mostly into Datsun 1600's (4 door 510's to you Americans) Still see this conversion getting around today and Aussies were the Word Leader for Engine Development on these Engines when it came to Drag racing Check out Grassroots Garage here on youtube, hes an old school Datsun guy from back then and his videos are AMAZING R31's are a completely different car and were sold here as a Nissan Pintara as well as a Skyline. Theyre STUPID popular here now because of how cheap they are and the fact they came with the NA Single Cam RB30. You NEED to do a video at R31 House (Shibata San from Shibata Tire) It looks INCREDIBLE there
@BRICKHOUSESPL Жыл бұрын
Oh interesting. I always thought they were kind of facelift models of each other or something. Like S14 zenki and kouki, for example. I didn't realize they were so different. So the DR30 was the big daddy, cool model? Or I guess precursor based on model number? I've never been much a fan of them but seeing the FJ20 setup in there looked super cool and the body has some angular charm to it. I remember watching Robbie Nishida's visit to R31 House and it's wild what he's collected there. And now what he's got going with Shiba Tire is super impressive. He's definitely making a huge push and I keep seeing them at basically every event I go to recently.
@bmcshane80 Жыл бұрын
@@BRICKHOUSESPL No, completely different cars. The DR30 was a 4 cylinder turbo and the R31 was an Inline 6. You can see the evolution from DR30, to R31, to BNR32, to BNCR33 etc just by Model codes. We in Australia famously got the RB30 Single Cam (both NA and Turbo) in the VL Commodore after Holden did a deal with Nissan to use the engine as GM didnt want to spend any money on developing any new engines for the platform whilst Nissan sold the R31 in varying models using the same drivelines as they were built here in Australia therefore saving on costs The RB30 was also used as a Diesel in the Nissan Patrol 4WD which are still INSANELY popular here

That is really neat. I like the 86 analogy and I'm just waiting for some country to start reproducing full 86 chassis' like that. Kind of like buying a "brand new" 60's Mustang in America. We've got to be right on the verge of it with 86's crazy price recently and still super strong popularity. The Escort has a super cool overall shape to it. Like small muscle car. The Rocket Bunny isn't event that obnoxious on it either. Really neat look. I'll have to do some research on them as well. Nice. Some very nice cars there. Sadly no Tegs. Loved the bright pink Ford Escort. 🙂A very popular rally car in Europe and one of the most successful rally car chassis ever. They're still being raced too. I know a couple of lads here in Ireland who race them as privateers. Though prices for even bare 2 door chassis are insane money now. Parts supply does concern me, especially as my DC2 R is my daily driver, my only car as it were. The oily bits don't worry me so much as the usual stuff that might break or wear out is handy enough to get and cheaply(so far). I have collected and stored bits and bobs down the years, all panels(inc two rear quarters I chopped out of a rust free 1.6 example). Glass, doors, bonnet, taligate, three rear spoilers, bumpers etc. Three sets of taillights. Three sets of wheels; EK9 type R, Euro 15's and JDM 15's. All bought for very little and occasionally free when they were at the very bottom of their values curve, which in my neck of the woods was only a few years ago, like 2019. The HID headlights I don't have spares of and that's a worry. They're pretty mad money now when they come up and a tip from some eejit in a supemarket car park and... Well if that ever does happen(touch wood), I'll sell one of my kidneys and be straight onto you sir. Crying and praying. 😄
@BRICKHOUSESPL Жыл бұрын
Hahaha, I'd say you're heaps ahead of the rest of us with that parts stash! Nicely (and wisely) done. I'm kind of concerned myself but luckily I can find most stuff here with some patience. There's actually been a few full Type R chassis' (bare shells) listed recently and it gets my brain turning. haha. I've just got to get to the point of enjoying mine and getting some solid miles on it but good on you for daily driving yours. Nothing better than seeing them being used and enjoyed. I feel like such a silly American for not knowing that about the Escort. Based on the feedback in the comments, they really did have a massive impact on motorsports outside the US. Really cool car that I'm going to have to do some more research on.
@MrGrentch Жыл бұрын
@@BRICKHOUSESPL Funny enough I had a 1.8 SiR Teg before the R and the biggest difference I found in real world use as far as cornering etc goes? The Limited Slip Differential in the R. It would be the very first thing I'd source to drop into a non R. I suppose cars like the Escort wouldn't have worked at all in the north American market and before the idea of "world cars" the markets were very different anyway. You guys didn't get the European 80/90's craze for Hot Hatches either. You did get the Golf/Rabbit but I don't think it was a big seller? TBH in a lot of ways I miss the "local" markets and all the different models and types there used to be.
@BRICKHOUSESPL Жыл бұрын
@@MrGrentch that lines up exactly with what other owners/drivers have said and recommended as the first "mod." I've been keeping my eye on LSDs and full transmissions since you get the more aggressive gearing, final, and LSD in most cases. The full transmission is obviously the more expensive option but you can basically bolt on performance and have a totally different feeling car. I want to put miles on mine before deciding what to do but the LSD and gearing seem like the two biggest shortcomings. The 80s/90s were rough for car options in America. Haha. As a lover of 90s Japanese cars, I always felt we/America were on the outside while the rest of the world had the good model cars. Europe and Oceania getting the good spec s-chassis, Skylines, JZX's, etc or having laws that would allow them to be imported. Heck even Canada was 10 years ahead of us.

That's awesome. My urge for a rotary is strong but it's kind of a matter of deciding in what form (and when the budget will allow). If they're still selling complete brand new "short blocks" then that seems pretty hard to beat.
