Willis A. Lee was one of the finest naval commanders the U.S. ever produced. He is not nearly as known or revered as he should be.

Admiral "Ching Lee" knew what he was doing.

Ching Lee was a national pistol shooting champion and also an expert marksman with a rifle. He also won gold at the olympics I believe.

Yes, Kentuckian “Ching” Lee applied his Olympic shooting knowledge to the big naval guns. He comes from a part of Kentucky known for their BBQ…😊

He won 5 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. The most medals won by the US until the 1980s.

The proper term for the big guns is Rifles they just shoot a a really big bullet. You could say they were right up Adm. Lee's alley..😊😊

Lee should have been the leader of US forces in Guadalcanal right from the start. With his knowledge of radar, he would have won the first night battle too and plenty of lives and ships would have been saved.

Halsey and Spruance both needed him, and the AA firepower the US Navy BBs carried, closer to the carriers for their protection. That plus the reasons the narrator gave for not putting our giant ships in the confined space North of Guadalcanal. Plus the fact that radar was in its infancy and it was not well known how to mount it correctly nor how to interpret the images among the islands even if an enemy ship was standing in front of the island. And Washington's radar had a blind section to the rear. And Nimitz only had what BBs the Atlantic War would spare them due to FDR's buckling to Churchill's demands.

I was proud of the “reader” for pronouncing the word “bow” correctly, once anyway . A few minutes later it pronounced it as in “bow tie”. AI can learn - slowly.

This is like listening to a boxing match, Admiral "Ching" Lee was a master at his craft, gone too soon, so much unfulfilled promise.
