Lovebites is the band that got me back into Japanese music. The highlight is the dueling guitar between Midori and Miyako. Their sound ranges from European power metal to 80's thrash. Like Band-Maid, you want to see the live performances. Unfortunately, the best live stuff from their concerts is not on KZbin. The video for Crusade might be a good choice of the stuff that is available on KZbin.

Argh...they are touring with Dragonforce in the UK, They are at Download festival in Japan again as is Halesstorm. Commenting while tired... Yes, they are Iron Maiden fans. "Crusade" owes a lot to "Aces High". The songs are in English, The band name comes from Halestorm's "Love Bites (So Do I)". The Lovebite's singer, Asami, has sung that song with Lzzy Hale at the Download festivals in Japan and the UK. Lovebites just started a UK tour as the opening band for Dragonforce. Because they are small, they wear white so they standout on stage. You should see the pictures of Asami with Halestorm, they all tower over her. The band formed in 2016 and this is their 2nd MV I believe.Since 2016 they have had an EP and 3 albums plus a CD of live performances. The drummer and bassist started the band, they came from another great metal band Destrose. Destrose had a lot of personnel changes before the band went on hiatus so a lot of great bands have Destrose veterans. And if you want a ballad check out "Epilogue".

rakjr6 Well done. They are really a targeted machine, went in with concept of retro nwobhm meets powermetal, sung in English to honor British (&german) roots, mixed & mastered in Scandinavia by Nightwish’s team, nuclear blast record label. At first couldn’t sell it to Japanese labels, but did 4 song demo, label scooped them up and released it without re-recording it, they knew what they were doing! Probably most sound like Halloween, which was Germany’s faster answer to Iron Maiden (& honorable mention to guitarist Midori’s fav band, Brazilian powermetal Angra). Yet these songs are more modern, slightly symphonic, and maybe easier rhythm parts but tougher arrangements to play, see The Crusade kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5auqoRqra5go7s Drummer’s star symbols spin but not used for sound. Some say too gimmicky (kiss anyone?), but people notice her and remember, it’s her trademark. Try this Destrose song, and prepare yourself for the Destrose legacy of ... tons of talented metal chicks and all their great current bands... Headless Goddess live 2013, with Miho bass and Haruna drums, the two founders of lovebites kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXulkJ2MmdCnY68 4mins into this interview they give a simple explanation of the white dresses. To me, it’s not far from the Kawaii(cute) Metal concept, whether it’s Aldious in evening gowns, others in schoolgirl skirts, etc. I’ve heard them called Angry Bridesmaids too ;) funny, but not that accurate... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWWbe6WaZ5akfKc

You ought to dig deeper into the huge number of all females bands in japan. Having the second largest music industry in the world, its incredible to see how common it is for women there to be involved as much as men esp. in the rock/metal genre. Some of the best ones imo are Band Maid, lovebites, Doll$boxx, Aldious, Mary's Blood and Bridear. You'd be surprised to know that this has been the case since the early 80s and the only reason why its become rare to see females in these genre of music today is probably because of Japan's strict copyright laws like prohibiting even fancams in their concerts and their reliance on tradition music distribution systems rather than digital and online medium like youtube. Its only been a few years since Japanese artist have started to open up their music to the international audiences through their youtube channels and such. Jpop idol groups managed by few of the biggest music labels were pretty much the only ones that barely surfaced early on but things are starting to change rapidly esp. with babymetal making waves recently and while it also further adds to the 'unique' characteristics that some japanese media is already known for but for better or for worse, its definitely proved that online presence is crucial today. And the best part is the huge rock/metal scene there is gradually starting to realize that they are being very well received by the international viewers and this has led to many of them finally releasing their contents online. A majority of them probably still remain buried but things are definitely changing albeit slowly.

I hadn't heard of Otoboke Beaver. Nice band. Kind of a Shonen Knife vs Yellow Machinegun vibe I think. I'm excited about Aldious's new singer R!N. Show-Ya, Valkyrie, and Gallhammer are actual 80's bands, as in they played during the 80's. There are tons of non-80's female J-metal bands that are worth a listen too. The biggest issue that Love Bites and Band Maid have is that they are playing classic rock that does not have a wide audience or sell many records. Band Maid has been in existence 6 years and is yet to play Budokan which is the mark of a successful band in Japan. Meanwhile BabyMetal has not only sold out the 55,000 seat Tokyo Dome but has landed at #13 on the US Billboard 200 album chart and hit # 1 on the Billboard Rock album chart, something no ASIAN group has ever done. I like listening to Band Maid and The Warning but I am realistic about their limited appeal. BabyMetal is doing something that is not being done at any level of music in the world, hell the TRAILER for "Road of Resistance Live In Japan" is better than most groups songs, which is why I like them best.

I love the eighties metal sound as well. I started out with Babymetal, and it was a slippery slope from there. Japan has the greatest metal scene especially if you lkie female lead or all female acts. Lovebites got their name from Halestorms song of the same name. In fact they are going to be Halestorms supporting band on their tour in Japan in the near future. The break for the ad is there because videos in Japan are PV (promotional video) versus MV (music video). The star shaped cymbals are kind of her trademark as she had them since her days playing for Destrose. She usually just gives them a spin during live performances. Fate Gears drummer has some pretty uniquely cut cymbals she can play to go along with their steampunk stylings. There are so many great Japanese bands. Aldious, Bridear, Cyntia, Destrose, Brats, Disqualia, Fate Gear, Fruit Pochette, Babymetal, Galmet, Mildrage, Erebos, Fuki, Doll$Boxx, Ironbunny, Girls Rock Band Kakumei (ガールズロックバンド革命), Mardelas, Mary"s Blood, Sonic Lover Reckless, and Ningen Isu, just to name a few.

Ron Foster Aldious is credited mostly for reigniting its popularity in the 2000s, bands like Show ya and shonen knife have been there since 1981 and are the ones who had truly started it all, the exact year when most of the biggest rock bands known today started making waves in the music industry. That year is quite the historic year in RocknRoll history.

You should check out "The Crusade" which the band called an open love letter to 80's metal. Also "Rising" is more a ballad. You know there are over 100+ all female bands in Japan, it started in the 80's with a band called Show-Ya who did split up and have remoformed since. But the band that is given the credit for rekick starting it all is Aldious. Another band that goes down in Japanese female band history is Destrose, it a group that spawned so many others inc Lovebites (bassist, drummer), Mary's Blood, Fate Gear and many more. The guitarist from Mary's Blood maybe the best female shreder out there at the moment, and she is also the daughter of one of Show-ya's guitarists.

All Lovebites songs are in English except for one song called "Bravehearted" off the original EP. The version on Awakening From Abyss is in English. Also check a song called Epilogue for a ballad, you'll like it a lot.

A primary difference with the Japanese is, they're technically superior to the western bands. There is a higher level of professionalism, no "hidden" band members who can't play their instruments. And another major difference they don't show up drunk, high or both. First I had heard a metal star say this was Rob Zombie describing the professionalism Babymetal on Instagram.

If you are still reading comments, and before talking about ballads, the pocket dynamo uses her star cymbal in this clip. She spines it right after her very first strike on her drum, yes she spines it at the beginning or at the ending. You just missed it. Those girls play beautiful and epic ballads. Try Epilogue, they'll melt your soul, Empty Daydream with beautiful piano, Edge of the World begins with ballad after 3 or 4 transaction ends with thrash or power....I'm not good at metal subcategories. those are all live and they are way better in live. Oh, one more thing, You'll be surprised when you listen to Shopin Piano Etude + Swan Song. You must dig those two pieces together 'cause they are a set with the same theme death of heroes, sacrifice, honor and glory, hence a suite.

this (in my subjective opinion) is their best song... I think your really going to also like their song The Crusade (kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5auqoRqra5go7s) its very similar to Shadowmaker (and this version has no break). but for you, I believe you'll absolutely LOVE their song Rising (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGiTe6aFpdKIfac)

If you want an 80s ballad from a Japanese girl metal band there is no better choice that Aldious “Fragile.” That song would have fit perfectly on 80s rock radio.

Great Reaction video mate!! i first heard/watched this song around 5 months ago and was blown away!! I also love 80's power metal so i was instantly hooked. One of there big influences is Iron Maiden!! so that's why the 80's feel to the song. They don't have many MV's..... maybe 4 in total, The Crusade, Rising and Don't Bite The Dust are the others. Hope you check and do a reaction to them in the future!! There is a live performance at Bloodstock 2018 if you're after some Live Lovebites. Asami's voice is amazing too!!

Lovebites is legit. I totally agree...this track is just as solid as anything I heard from Iron Maiden. I'm not positive but I think I recall the bassist citing Iron Maiden as her main influence. The band was put together by the drummer and bassist both "graduates" of their former band Destrose. Destrose spawned many of these girl metal bands as it's lineup changed at least every two years... There was one mainstay, guitarist Mina. She was a member every year but the last I think. She's busy with her new project Fate Gear...more old school under the guise of Steampunk...Love that too... The only thing that makes me cringe a bit is their outfits...lol I like them once. Then I wanna see something else...:) Their music is on target for sure so I can live with it....lol Thanks for the reaction!

Dude if you liked this one check out "The Crusade" kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5auqoRqra5go7s also bigtime Madien style metal. As far as I know, they only have two short albums and two full-lengths out and I got all four and they are sweet music to my ears. I thought you would love this band just as much. The other band I have been mentioning to you "Aldious" is also another version of the 80's and 90's metal kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6Cbapt7f5elqa8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpm3fnmsmJyNgKM this is the slowest ballad I could find by "Lovebites" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqiVq6ttrph_ZpI another one that is slower but powerful
