I was a bit afraid for your mental sanity when I saw you were about to discover Lovebites. This band is rather new (three years old and already three wonderfull albums and some EPs) and was founded on the ashes of DESTROSE by former bassist (Miho) and drummer (Haruna). This perfect rythm section build the foundations for the best (I say it - the best) actual pair of melodic metal guitarplayers - the flashy Midori and the elaborate Miyako (who doubles on keyboards and triple on backing vocals, when she's not busy composing for the band). On top of this amazing team, there's a singer who never sang in a metal band before (she was a backing singer in gospel and r'n'b bands !!! ) and who has an amazing range and power. Their latest album is Electric Pentagram and it's perfect from start to finish ... but as for Band-Maid and many other japanese bands, you have to see them live!

@glenkelley67994 жыл бұрын
Great reaction to one of my favorite power metal bands. So much talent packed into such tiny ladies, drummer (Haruna) is only 4'9" but packs so much energy. Drummer and bassist (Miho) formed band in 2016 after leaving Destrose (another band you might like, gone now but had a lot of influence). They then recruited the two guitarist (Midori and Miyako) and then the singer Asami. All their songs are in English as they wanted to reach a wider audience in Europe and US. Because they're so small (tallest is 5'2" I think) they wear all white to show up better on big stages
@athlonen4 жыл бұрын
They wear all white not only because of that, but because most female bands, especially in the western world that play power metal, looked like the guys, where they had to dress as sleazy as the guys did, especially back when metal was big in the 80s and early 90s. They didn't want to do that and actually want to show that they can play metal and dress like the gorgeous women they are while doing it. And seeing that no-other band was/is doing that, they stand out, and it works. LoveBites is the first (and so far, only) Japanese band to be signed to a Western (US/Europe) label: Nuclear Blast Records, which is the same label that Testament and Nightwish are also on.
@taknothing48964 жыл бұрын
@@athlonen Nuclear Blast has only released their 2018 album "Clockwork Immortality." For some reason they haven't picked up any of their other releases, including the new one. Also, it seems like they only distributed it in Europe. The US branch doesn't have it. I'm guessing that the band is somewhere between pissed and really frustrated at the lack of distribution and promotion outside Japan.
@athlonen4 жыл бұрын
Tak Nothing I don’t know if they’re pissed at promotion, because they were one of the bands at Wacken Open Air in 2019 as well as Bloodstock, and both Miyako and Mindoro both were at NAMM this year and had a serious following at all 3 shows. And I want to say it was Miya’s and Midori’s first time at NAMM. Now granted, the US market sucks, but they are definitely known in Europe..
@taknothing48964 жыл бұрын
@@athlonen I'm sure the tour with Dragonforce helped also, tho I'd note that all happened after the Nuclear Blast release and months before Electric Pentagram came out, which leads me to suspect that Nuclear Blast had a bunch to do with setting all that up or at least leaning on bookers so that they could push Clockwork Immortality - they do have the influence to do that, and it doesn't cost much. All the Lovebites releases seem to be available for mailorder thru JPU Ltd. in the UK, but I'm not seeing where they do distribution to retail, or much else other than simple mailorder. And they don't have any of the big UK or European acts, only Japanese imports (Band-Maid and Scandal seem to be their big sellers), and it's really hard to build buzz if all you've got is mailorder to put something in peoples' faces (needless to say social media & streaming don't count if the algorithms aren't showing it to you and you don't know to search for it). And nobody in the US is even doing mailorder. Their Japanese label, Victor/JVC, is a very big deal in Japan, but as far as I know they don't have offices in either the US or Europe. Which does indeed suck... Maybe the NAMM appearances and all the stuff on KZbin will inspire someone to book them a US tour, so there's always hope for the best goddam power metal band on the planet.
@cepho83493 жыл бұрын
@@athlonen Actually, Aldious are pretty much doing the same. They predate Lovebites by several years and are another all-female metal band. They like to dress girly as well. And there are probably more Japanese examples.

Yep - that had the expected effect on you. 🤣😂 Being a Judas Priest fan, you no doubt noticed their influence on the guitar duel. Try "Break The Walls", "The Crusade" or "Hammer Of Wrath".

When do we get Burning Witches? They got a new album for a while, now? Skill level of that guitar solo? Asian. Herman is proud.
@athlonen4 жыл бұрын
Actually, both Herman and Sam said they were jealous of this band. Not just for their songwriting, but from their playing. and I can see why. While Herman and Sam have the finger speed, their speed is also their weakness, in that they cram so many notes into a solo or song that they don't have the time or space to add tone, tension, or nice, smooth, tonal vibrato. But seeing that Dragonforce is supposed to be more speed than power metal, that's okay for them. But for LoveBites, they add that, and it shows in Miyako's and Midori's duel. As much as I love metal, speed isn't everything.
@MrEnsiferum774 жыл бұрын
I was so much in Burning Witches and all the hype, but when I found this one, music does not make sense for me anymore, Burning Witches no matter how good they are and try, compare to this is funny. I killed listening to their albums. True metal albums, bones crushing from start to finish, very rare we can find this days true metal albums, when they crushing through all the songs, one I can think is Symphony X Paradise Lost.
