Excellent episode of Toa Payoh. You have featured the best part of Toa Payoh. As a resident of Toa Payoh for 50 years, you have certainly shown the hidden gems of Toa Payoh. Bian Mian and goreng pisang at the Central and Lorong 8 Hawker Centre. There are still many great hawker centres located in Lorong 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7. Trees temple and Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery are our attractions as well as the Toa Payoh Garden, which used to be a lover garden. Next to the Toa Payoh Garden, there is a sports centre, which consists of a swimming complex, stadium and a sports hall. The swimming complex was built in 1973 for the SEAP games. Unfortunately, they are all fenced out for further development. In this episode, you mentioned you would like to show your viewers the interior of our HDB flats, studio, 2, 3, 4 and 5 room flats. Actually, there is a showroom at level 3 in the HDB hub which exhibit the different types of apartments. Well done. ❤

Another great episode of Singapore Hour ! Most foreign youtubers visit Singapore for 2-3 s days, go to the same few touristy places, eat the same few stalls recommended by other tourists and think they have "visited" the local part of Singapore. Very few channels actually go in-depth into the heartlands.

The interesting thing to note about Toa Payoh is that it is actually the first HDB estate fully masterplanned by the HDB post-independence. The word Toa Payoh means "Big Swamp" which was what it used to be before development. The earliest villages here were a mix of farms / small factories and the place was known to be one of the more dangerous places to visit in Singapore back in the 60s (due to gangster activities etc). Key highlights are : 1) some of the earliest HDB blocks were built here (in fact, VIPs used to visit the place in the 70s including Queen Elizabeth) 2) the area where you had the Ban Mian actually served as the 'games village' for the SEAP games (kindda like the modern day SEA games) in 1973 ... some of the HDB blocks there were used as athlete hostels 3) Toa Payoh is home to the HDB HQ, so it would have been a great opportunity to talk about public housing in Singapore as well 4) Toa Payoh is home to the first Integrated Transport Hub and first air-conditioned bus interchange in Singapore. The kachang putih guy who used to sell in front of Peace Centre has a permanent shop there now :) 4) Key 'attractions' include the temples that you visited in your video, Toa Payoh park which was where many in the 60s / 70s took their wedding photos etc .. .... At a broader level, I suppose a place like Toa Payoh really personifies the Singapore story, especially from a public housing perspective. Love your videos!

My wife and I used to live in Toa Payoh. It was one of the earliest HDB estates in SG. After I moved, I used to visit her in Toa Payoh and we went dating at Toa Payoh Park. Always enjoyed Japan Hour and now I have another "Hour" of enjoyment.

Apart from learning more about Toa Payoh, what I enjoy about this MV was Ayano's personality. She is such a bubbly person, and watching Ghib and her interacting with each other, as well as with the locals was really entertaining, and got me smiling thru out the video. Kudos to the camera person too for the great shots :)

There’re also the hawker centres at Toa Payoh Lorong 1, 5 & Lorong 7 which locals flock to. Along Lorong 6 there is a very old block 47 surviving from the earliest HDB days when Toa Payoh was starting to develop.

There is also a abandoned japanese shrine in macritchie reservior nearby that was build by the japanese when they were occupying Singapore. The name of the place is called 'Syonan Jinja'. if you were to go to macritchie and go along the perimeter of the country club, you would find the remains of the bridge that used to connect the shrine, the old wooden bridge stilts are even still visible when the water level is low. Only problem is that the rest of the main shrine remains are currently in a protected area and its illegal to go in, unless maybe you can try to get Nparks to bring you in haha. Maybe you can make a video on that sometime :3

I specifically signed into KZbin just to make this comment! When someone recommended Shuang Lin Temple while you were in Toa Payoh Central, I was almost disappointed! But I felt that you would find the tree temple and yes you did! I remember playing around that tree. It used to be much much bigger with plenty of hidey places for kids. Really happy the first two if your "Singapore Hour" are towns I have lived in! Gjib Ojisan 頑張ります! May your videos all go viral!

Thanks for having guest Ayano-san in this episode, she’s kawaii ne. I like the part when she opposed to the common saying that visiting Singapore once is enough.
