I don't know, its pretty impressive that arguably the greatest American collegiate wrestler of all-time is Japanese. Yojiro Uetake was only taken down once in his entire collegiate career and never lost or really came close to losing a match, other than against future Olympic silver medalist Don Behm, the one man to ever score a takedown on Uetake. Bro was 130 lbs. Competition at that weight is VERY VERY limited. Majority of men are way over 130, now imagine wrestlers that are 130 AND back when sports weren't even as huge as it is now... Japan does suck when it comes to fighting and It's a fact. Why do you think all journeymen from Europe go to Japan to compete?
@kforcer11 күн бұрын
@@robertasgar6387 The talent at the lower weights was definitely NOT limited in that era. You and a ton of all-time greats; Uetake, Behm, Rick Sanders, Dan Gable (who was one weight up from Uetake), I could go on. Japan, to this day, is behind only the US and USSR in terms of all-time gold medals in freestyle wrestling. And as far as wrestling not being as huge back then, actually, you have about half as many schools that even host wrestling, thanks to title IX.

3:46 martial arts is basically just combat. As long as people have been fighting martial arts has existed. Virtually every culture goes to war. They all learn to fight. Every single major culture that has ever existed has had techniques they would use in combat. We see this in manuscripts from a thousand years ago. It’s just natural to try and figure out how to get better at fighting when your culture values fighting. The Roman Coliseum was built about 2000 years ago and involved trained fighters fighting each other. This happened in Asia. The Middle East. Africa. Northern, central and southern America.

Possibly their best fighters in their country has a sacred vow to not fight for money or fame. My opinion learning their history on martial arts and the roots of Japanese jitsu. JJ was created from slaves like the ninja to form moves to win a battle against soldiers on horses and with better armor and weaponry. So their honor and code is high. So possibly their best fighters did not enter. Don’t know for sure but I believe same as china may be same case. Food for thought. Another reason we don’t have monks or any level grand masters in mma. Also those countries are better at killing attacks no rules no ref. Which I find easier ways to win quicker. I learned both from military to street no rules and mma and it’s completely different
