I guess you confirmed my theory that roasted soybean powder, or kinako, smells/tastes like peanut butter! I did a play in Japan a few years ago (I'm bilingual) & brought American candy for the cast/crew to share once. One of them was Reese's & this older man LOVED them. He initially thought the peanut butter part was kinako. Since then, whenever I bring kinako flavored snacks to America I've described them as tasting like peanut butter. I wasn't 100% confident that it's a good comparison though haha.

This is why I love japan. Traditional practices like this are important to keep around, and I wish every country could preserve it's culture the way Japan has. Remember that if you have a culturally important thing that you do, it's your responsibility to pass that down to the next generations by teaching them it.
@mrbanana64648 ай бұрын
Quality > quantity has been Japan's thing for a while since they realized they can't compete in the global economy in terms of quantity.
@SakuraiHikari158 ай бұрын
Funny enough we had a mass deletion of our culture back towards the end of the 1800's, specifically because we realized how much sticking to tradition was killing the country. Most of what the Meiji Restoration was a willful deletion of culture because it was destroying the country and its people (with the rest of it being a restructuring of government to be more Western).
