Fun fact samurais used that flowers as a luky sharm for batle in their armor. Not everything is sexist in this world. The design choice to use flowers on the bill, without any historical or cultural significance (unlike the men who do have such designs), simply because she is a woman is sexist. If they chose the flower because it has some meaning, or because it relates to her work as a writer it would be different. But instead we get “hur dur woman feminine, flower feminine make sense.” This is merely a symptom of a society that still places arbitrary value and judgements on people based on their sex. Well it can't be entirely misogynistic, since the purpose was to honor a great woman in their history. The fact that she has her own bill makes it an awful honor (and I truly mean an honor full of awe). The fact that the government wants her to be a part of Japan's primary cultural identity, shows that Japan truly felt she was a woman worthy of honoring.
