The flowers "Kakitsubata-zu" (painting of irises) is a pair of six-panel folding screens by Korin Ogataare and is a national treasure of Japan. Is that not enough. And In March 1892, Ichiyō Higuchi gave her literary debut with the story Yamizakura (Flowers at Dusk). So maybe they wanted to connect those two things. So maybe flowers have more of a meaning than you thought, but you didn't want to put in five minutes to read or research anything.

Fuji as well, so why even put them on the same banknote? Simple explanation is both sides of the bank notes are prides of Japan. Ichiyo higuchi and Ogata Korin are both artists that the country CLEARLY values and have pride for. There is nothing misogynistic about this. Please stop always trying to find bad in everything. History isn't always filled with bad intentions.

i searched what a wisteria flower looks like and it's very beautiful although it's said that it's poisonous(?) to touch. in japan, wisteria flowers means success, longetivity, and good luck. maybe they just want to put wisteria flowers beside her as a symbol of success for paving the way on japanese female education(??)

@@chewymint5224 I don’t have anything against the flowers. However, compared to the male figures on the ¥10000 and ¥1000 bills respectively getting an image of Tokyo station (one of the first and most culturally significant stations in Japan) and Hokusai’s Great Wave (one of the most well-known paintings in Japan), Tsuda just being associated with some flowers seems kinda disrespectful towards her imo.
@hellbunniez3
@hellbunniez3 Жыл бұрын
wisteria flowers are literally the symbol of the yamato people….ever heard of the fujiwara clan? yeah. the first kanji means wisteria. most people in japan are descended from them and their affiliated clans. it’s the symbol of the imperial family, whose also the representative of japan. wisterias are literally on par with significance with the sakura, perhaps even more since it has roots to the ancestry of our people. how are you gonna tell me that’s not symbolic and without meaning when it’s literally connected to us??? 😭😭😭 plus, the symbols on the front and the back aren’t even connected to each other in anyway, if anything the flowers behind the bills with umeko tsuda and ichiyo higuchi can literally be referenced to them even if you squint. wtf does a hō-ō have to do with fukuzawa or kitazato with hokusai’s work? the bottomline is that they’re exclusively national treasures of japan; the backside symbolisms doesn’t have to be connected to the people in front exclusively. 😭😭😭

Fun fact samurais used that flowers as a luky sharm for batle in their armor. Not everything is sexist in this world. Maybe if you had investigate a little more about it you would not have made the mistake of assuming that she received a flower just because. And even if she did. The physical object doesnt oppress women you absolute nonce. The design choice to use flowers on the bill, without any historical or cultural significance (unlike the men who do have such designs), simply because she is a woman is sexist. If they chose the flower because it has some meaning, or because it relates to her work as a writer it would be different. But instead we get “hur dur woman feminine, flower feminine make sense.” This is merely a symptom of a society that still places arbitrary value and judgements on people based on their sex. Why dont you take some time and actually research how women are treated in Japan? The channel Let’s Ask Shogo (actually ran by a Japanese man) has many videos on this. Bro...there are so many more videos that don't contribute to something incredibly important or serious, you're only having a hissy fit because he asked the audience a question.

Well it can't be entirely misogynistic, since the purpose was to honor a great woman in their history. The fact that she has her own bill makes it an awful honor (and I truly mean an honor full of awe). The fact that the government wants her to be a part of Japan's primary cultural identity, shows that Japan truly felt she was a woman worthy of honoring. And only saw that flowers could fully honor her. Personally, I would have gone with a memorable quote from her. However, it doesn't show lack of respect.

they have to make women-only train carts so creepy men don’t take advantage of women in skirts. If that’s not misogyny I don’t know what is.

@@notreallyici but that’s an entirely different story than what the topic is in the video. misogyny and sexism still exist here, you’re absolutely right. but the topic of the video is about bills. both of the backsides of the bills with the men in it don’t even have close ties to the men symbolized in the front of the currency, whereas ichiyo higuchi’s you can see a hint of a reference directly tied to her relatively short life, the topics she wrote about (romance) and her most famous work titled “flowers at dusk.” op was right. stan is absolutely reaching and anger baiting in this short.

Calling it misogyny is exaggerated. I doubt they did it with malicious intent or just because women are not on the same level as men, flowers have always been associated with girls.

The flower language of Kakitsubata (Japanese iris) is "Fortune will surely come." The Japanese iris which has been loved by Japanese people for a long time, often appears in Manyoshu(oldest collection of poems), and it is said that the flower language associated with happiness was added because many of them express the feeling of waiting for a lover. Higuchi wrote about romance . Sorry , I’m so angry at this creator spreading misinformation .

Idk maybe stop looking into shit that has nothing to do with you. The time people spend thinking over something they cannot change, could be used for something that actually brings joy.
