Tony, I think everyone likes you because you're a nice, ordinary bloke who makes us feel like your friends. No airs and graces, just showing us what you're doing and why. Thanks for the video, and good luck with your cuttings. 🇦🇺

Anytime - it's all very well watching someone spend 3 hours doing a trim on an 80 year old Bonsai, but for many of us, that's unrealistic. Although, even those Bonsai started as 'sticks in pots'.

Nice pruning decisions Tony. Yes, I understand that Holly do strike well from cuttings best done when the tree is dormant and cold weather so now would be the ideal time. Thanks for the video. 👍👍

Just bought a Japanese Holly from B&Q, so this is pefect timing Tony! Mine is a more mature specimen with a beautiful clump style trunk. Still not expensive. I was having a cup of coffee looking for some tips, before getting stuck in. Thanks again.

A great little video again Tony. That second japanese Holly is going to be a real beauty one day - it looks great now. I have found Holly strikes really easily from cuttings. I am working on a couple of English Holly at the moment...projects for next spring maybe 😉

I'm curious to see how your cuttings develop. I'm trying to propagate cuttings myself from all possible and impossible trees. Will they root this time of the year? Will they survive? Great pruning decision. Like your style 👍

New subscriber, interested in jumping in and picking up some nursery plants to start with. How do you protect your potted plants in winter? Will they survive outdoors? Thanks for your time, and keep up the vids, really like what you’re doing.
@TonysBonsai
@TonysBonsai 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub, and you should definitely jump in and get yourself some plants to start working on. I winter all my plants outside, but up here in northern England we don't really get it too cold. Perhaps if it really gets freezing (below - 5 for an extended period) I will move a few into my garage, but probably not.

Absolutely enjoy watching your content, some of the others end me to sleep, especially if I'm tired. Have you thought of bonsai-ing a rose? The idea came to me yesterday that I haven't seen one and definitely possible, so why not? Keep growing.xx
@TonysBonsai
@TonysBonsai 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mandy. I know what you mean. They can be a great cure for insomnia! 🤣 I've never really considered roses, but I might have a go as they are beautiful, but it would definitely be one of the dwarf varieties with the tiny flowers as I'm not keen on huge flowers on a bonsai.

How do you go about fertilizing? What do you use, how often do you use it? Specifically with your own-made Soilmix
@TonysBonsai
@TonysBonsai 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I fertilise in the summer and autumn using either chicken manure pellets or dried seaweeed which I just spread on the top of the soil and as it is watered it goes down to the roots. Seems to work well for me.
