i got a ilex green mound on the discount sale rack last season. i gave it its first trim a few weeks ago. made a bunch of cuttings to root. its a great species. nursery stock is just easier to find and start with. more affordable too. nice work steve!

I totally agree about nursery stock. There is already enough expense with Bonsai. If cheap material is available and appropriate, then why not?! Thanks Mike.
