Just pointing out to absolutely complete beginners that 'are' ≠ the english "that". The meaning of 'are' is pretty much "that over there". For an object close to the person you're speaking to, you should use 'sore' instead. for anyone that wants to know more these are ko so a do words and they are pretty useful to learn so I recommend looking them up.

On top of that, you’d only use anata as you if you don’t know the person’s name. He /she / they isn’t really used in Japanese. (I agree with you, OP; I’m just putting this here for anyone who might not know this as well.)
@tortolgawd4481

@@s2c1mw7mP5l you actually don't use the words he/she/they when talking to the second person in english too, you use "you" same as "anata". he/she are otoko/kanojo but idk what "they" is in japanese

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!
