So in competitive Pokemon TCG, every year or so(around march)a new set comes out. With the scarlet and violet era cards there are small letters near the collector number meaning what regulation it is in. For example, the current format is F-H but in late march it will be G-I

In shorter terms, old cards get kicked out and you cannot use them anymore.
