Very good .I did shotokan 1972 to 1980 .graded by keinosuke Enoeda. We were taught hard blocks can be a attack in themselves.I used a makiwara for maybe 6 years ,and guys in the dojo sometimes complained about my blocks. I broke a guys arm once with knife hand block . I still have the makiwara but I only train now with weights. Even at 83 I can still kick high and fast with jodan keage geri. Loved karate .Even though many injuries and pain from kumite..that kick looked like it went straight to the carotid artery.

@k.l7524 Yes I attended 2 separate London 8 hour a day mon to Friday training in the 70s with quite a few of us Enoeda ,Kanazawa,Kawasoe and ( not sure of spelling ) Ochi. Great days. First 2 days nearly killed me. It was so hard.
Stronger? It is simply technique. There is strength and conditioning in the hits, but ultimately it all comes down to technique. Martial Arts is just human body physics used for the purpose of combat. If you understand the potential for a mechanic, and can read it and counter, then you have the upper hand. Stronger isn't nearly as important as technique.
