Hi, I like mystery novel☺️🙌 And, I like Edogawa Rampo🥰🥰🥰

I have came from the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom (an anime about authors gaining their books powers. Example being Osamu Dazai’s No Longer Human would be Osamu Dazai’s power (both surprisingly are suicidal, anime Dazai has his limits to suicide methods though. And yes, I used one of the more popular authors/characters because almost everyone pretty much likes him and he’s a pretty easy example.) I’m trying to make a playlist of the mentioned/featured Authors as characters in the anime. I’ve currently got Atsushi Nakajima, Osamu Dazai, Edgar Allan Poe and Fyodor D’s books. Out of all of them currently Fyodor’s is a 3 part audio book thing and each are more than 1-2 hours long, if memory serves right. Now that I’ve found what Ranpo Edogawa’s books are called. Hopefully I won’t get too creeped out by a couple of his books, they sound like a mystery but with horror elements. I know that I’ve gotten a little bit freaked out at E.A Poe’s short story “The Black Cat” (main character’s gone insane from alcohol influences from what I’m getting and killed a cat, a black cat. He made the poor thing suffer by cutting out one of it’s eyes and then later on hanging it. The rest of you can go read/listen to the story) If you’d like to watch Bsd I hope you’re not afraid or triggered by gore and maybe a little bit of some kidnapping, maybe not kidnapping. Idk how to explain it, I’m bad with this explaining stuff- anyways that, Dazai’s suicidal antics and abusive behaviour (mostly found in the port mafia ark from where I’m at) Without further ado I’ll be on my way now. Thank you.

I read "The Man Travelling with the Brocade Portrait" by Rampo and tons of old Japanese literature in a comparative world literature class 2 years back and It was one of the best, albeit most difficult, literature course I ever took. This video made me miss the discussions we had in that class. So glad I found your channel!

I adore your blouse in this, definitely fits the theme of the video! You really sold me on The Human Chair, especially since you mentioned that Ranpo was an influence for Junji Ito - I'll definitely have to read the story and the manga adaptation ♥

Thanks for the review, I'm trying to diversify my reading (I mostly read fantasy) and my 2021 focus is on mysteries and nonfiction. I'm doing pretty good with incorporating nonfiction into my reading but am having trouble prioritizing mystery books so this recommendation is good timing.

Edogawa Ranpo's name comes from Edgar Allan Poe. He took his pen name from Edgar Alan Poe, who he adored. That means Edogawa Conan is combined with three great mystery authors.

It’s okay if it takes you a long time to complete a video, it’s nothing compared to the millions of years in existence. Plus we can tell you put a lot of effort into the videos!!

Great review! I was in a Japanese used bookstore earlier today and considered picking up a collection of Edogawa short stories until I was completely turned off by the Caterpillar. I think I'll have to give his other stories a read though. That chair story sounds like a fun time!

Hello. It's good to watch again. I've been mostly avoiding booktube because I wasn't reading. Now the reading habit is firmly established. I really ought to get around to classics.

I've not read the Caterpillar, but what I read of The Dwarf and the way that the author just hates on the dude even when he's just walking around BEFORE anything happens..? I get it, it's the one story of his I couldn't actually finish.

I enjoyed this review quite a bit. I think you and I have an overlapping sense of humor when it comes to some aspects of horror. The humor probably gets triggered by describing horrific events in a matter-of-fact manner. Somehow it comes across as irreverent and deadpan funny. Or we're both just terrible people.

I've started reading his stories not so lon ago, there is nice selection of he's works translated to French. On of my fauvrite was very clearly inspired with Conan Doyle, but the main villain is female which was so refreshing.
