映画のタイトルって、ここMexicoでもスペイン語で表記すると別の名前になる事が多いです。 更に興味深いのは字幕や吹き替え。ある映画で女優が英語で「それしか出来なかったのよ。」ってな類の事を言ったのに、日本語字幕では「女は何でも出来るのよ。」ってなってました。意味が逆なのでとても印象深かったですね。笑 それにしてもHannahさん。いつも綺麗ですねぇ。

Well, here in Brazil some movies' titles are also changed or a subtitle is added (like Frozen here turned into "Frozen: Uma Aventura Congelante" or "Frozen: a Frozen Adventure). Groundhog Day here is "Feitiço do Tempo" ("Time's Incantation") Ghost is "Ghost: Do Outro Lado da VIda" (Ghost: On the Other Side of Life") To Kill a Mockingbird (both the movie and book) is "O Sol É Para Todos" ("The Sun is For Everybody") The Shawshank Redemption is "A Dream of Freedom" The other titles mentioned are pretty much translated directly from English, even though I have to emphasize this great one which is "Giant", which here is "Thus Humankind Walks On", and when Brazil actually got it right in "Girl with Dragon Tattoo" which is pretty lame compared to the original title "The Man Who Didn't Love Women", which is pretty much the title in the original language xD Awesome to know we BR's are not alone in the re-titling of movies xD

意訳というのが完全に主観だったり、客寄せ目的だったり。 とくに日本人はメジャー作品以外あんまり映画館で映画見ないから、 題名がキャッチーな宣伝文句になってたりするんですよね。 日本人は派手な題名が好きだし。 「地味な題名」→「興味がわかないから映画館に足を運ばない」→興行収入に影響する！と思ってるんでしょう。 ビデオでも一緒ですけど、 「見たくなる」ような題名つけるのが目的。 だから本筋と関係ない題名になっちゃうんでしょうね。

I was more thinking of 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' being called 'Vergiss mein nicht!' (forget-me-not) or 'A Knight's Tale' to 'Ritter aus Leidenschaft' (something along the lines of Knight born from passion)

This explains so so much. My daughter is called Remy and we fostered two little girls originally fromJapan on an emergency crisis basis while they waited for family in Japan to be assessed for custody and these sweet, innocent, butter wouldn't melt, beautiful and polite girls... called my ...certainly not unfortunate looking baby...although eek (ear and tooth department maybe) BUT They called her 'the little rat' and sometimes even 'the rat in the hat. What I found weird was the huge amount of love and adoration and affection they said such a cruel thing. The words seemed jarring mean said so sweetly. I presumed that they either meant cute mouse and only knew the word rat or that they meant cat not rat, asin cat in the hat, the Dr.Zeuss character. I even remember feeling heartfelt concern that they'd possibly been called rats themselves and weren't aware they were being insulted ... but they'd just seen Remys tasty restaurant hadn't they.? 😳 I am mortified. Oh gawd and that's why people are confused when they ask if I've named her after ...and I rudely interrupt and make jokes about her being my X-Baby but I haven't been subtle because her full name is Remy Etienne Labeau, I presume it's obvious to anyone mentioning it. Of course they would think she's named after a French cartoon rat, why would mums at baby music class know X-men references anyway it's not a comic book shop, I just never though that there would be a rat called Remy in their mummy knowledge genre, this is why all the mummy and baby groups exclude my gender, so blokes don't come in and kill their PG buzz with their mutant comics. What's the hat thing about then? Why would they call her a rat in a hat, that bit has to be lost in translation? Remy's tasty restaurant makes more sense as a title, I've never seen it because of the title, no idea what ratatouille even is so never looked twice. Nevermind long enough to become a grown man superfan and name my firstborn after a rat. That's all...embarrassed.retreat.

If I had to make a guess about the hat, the rat does hide in the main character's chef hat and helps him cook. So he'd be a "rat in a hat" :P

that's the new(well not new anymore) remake of the karate kid though, in the OG karate kid movie(s) from the 80's he really learns karate, and mr. Miyagi (from the movie(s)) is of Okinawan heritage, okinawa which is and was under the duration of the movie(s) part of japan. they even visit Mr. Miyagi's home town of tomi village, Okinawa in the 2nd movie so the title "The Karate Kid" is in fact not at all stupid, they just changed things up in the remake of 2010
