Where to start... I've been studying Japanese for about 6 months now and I've come across countless learning resources in that time. I can say, with certainty, Misa's videos have helped me improve than anything else I've come across. Misa's ability to create effective lessons to teach grammar points is truly amazing. There is no resource I've found that goes as thoroughly into a topic to help a learner fully understand a grammar point as Misa's lessons. Teaching the grammar point, providing relevant cultural insights on its use cases, and giving an incredible number of examples makes for a lesson that you can leave feeling confident on whatever subject was discussed. The amount of detail and effort evident in every lesson is incredible. The subtitles with color coding and kanji/kana visibly color matching their corresponding translation helps make sentence structure very easy to follow so the grammar point being discussed isn't obfuscated by other, potentially unknown, elements of the sentence being discussed which is really helpful in the event that a viewer hasn't watched every prior lesson. In my opinion, the most valuable component of the lessons is the abundant example sentences with only slight variations from the prior example that linearly expand the topic being examined while also reinforcing/building vocabulary and giving listening exposure. Sitting down and memorizing different verb forms/conjugations is helpful for writing but, for me at least, it doesn't help with listening comprehension at all. What has helped, more than anything, was the video series earlier on that explained how the forms are derived but then gave a tremendous number of examples/samples. This same format carries through in newer grammar focused lessons as well. Hearing pitch and variation while learning the new words/forms has done more for me than just about anything else I've encountered. I wish I knew of a better way to share this as a review or something similar to bring more of those folks learning Japanese to this wonderful resource. In all, truly invaluable work, Misa. Thank you for all you have done for the Japanese learning community as a whole, and for the impact you've had on my journey. 本当に、本当に、本当にありがとうございます。

What makes Misa's lessons the very best of all is that there is so much extra in each video. This one, for instance, although focused on the 'should have' form, also explains when and how this combines with the really difficult tara / eba / nara ways of saying 'if'. べき is stronger than ほうがいい　。 If you want to stress your idea , you should use べき .

Misa, out of curiosity, what's the literal meaning of the "hou" word in the constructions that you've explained? Grammatically it seems to be just an ordinary noun, since it appears on the right of the "no" particle.

literally, it means someone's "side?" i guess would be the easiest way to translate it literally. so "見たほうがいい” has the same meaning as "you should watch it," it LITERALLY means "the side of having seen it is better" in a way

Is this structure (たほうがいい) only used for giving advice to other people? Because I've been using this for saying things that I personally think that I myself should have done or should do. I've been doing it for years, man I'd be so embarrassed if I had been using it wrong this whole time!

I think for yourself it's more common to say えばよかったのに. たほうがいい means it's better to do this/that たほうが良かった means it would be better to have done this. For me it sounds a bit weird to use it about yourself but not incorrect. Maybe I'm wrong though
