This time we'll learn how to use べき.
"べき (beki)" can be translated as "should / must" in English but there are many more ways to say "should / must".
We'll learn the differences between べき, はず, たほうがいい, なきゃ / なければいけません and ばいい and how to use them depending on the context / situation.
We'll also learn how to say "should have".
Watch these lessons (other ways to say "should") first:
たほうがいい (You Should *giving advice*)
- • You Should / Should NO...
はず (Should / I expect...)
- • はず Should / Supposed T...
なきゃ / なければいけません (Must)
- • Video

なるほど!So for meaning "should": はず is more on your assumption べき focuses on ethics たほうがいい is for advice なければならない is like a rule (you don't really have a choice) ありがとうございますみさ先生!
@shion3948
@shion3948 2 жыл бұрын
なければなりません literally means if 1 doesn't happen, the wanted result won't happen, nothing will progress. So it's like you have to do A in order to have B. 宿題しなければなりません!i have to do homework, because if I don't something won't go like I want it to, for example the teacher will scold me, I will get a bad grade etc

Your emphasis on nuances of feeling between different ways of saying more or less the same thing is very welcome, very helpful, very uncommon and if you collect odd, antique English expressions, it's the cat's pajamas (i.e. the best).

When you say you "expect someone to X" in English, it can sound like you are pressuring them to X and if they don't, there will be negative consequences for them. For example "I expect them to be on time tomorrow" (and if they are not, they may be fired). To make it less ambiguous, it's better to say "expect someone will X". E.g. "I expect they will be on time tomorrow." The latter sentence just expresses what you think will happen.

Every time I watch a new video I always comment "this is the best/ one of the best videos you've ever made!!!" - I don't know what else to say - no matter where else I go, you always explain it the best in the end. I spent half a day reading about べき and was starting to lose hope that Japanese is far too difficult, then I watch this video and it all seems simple again :') Ok I will try to make a sentence コロナワイルスはまだありますが、日本はもっと外国人を国に入ることは許すべきです。 I don't know the vocab for more serious social topics - but I am staying topical instead 😅

Thanks for the video Misa先生, they help a ton. Very off topic but I keep hearing よかった pronounced with a が instead of the か, am I wrong? I might just not have the sounds down yet. Moreover I would love to hear you speak the sentences we build in the lessons at a more natural speed after we read it at a slower speed before so that it is easier to develop a feel for pitch in sentences. I really like it when you sometimes go a little off topic and speak at a slightly faster pace. As always great work! 次回のレッスンを楽しみにしています!

You should use くれて here. いただいて is completely wrong. いただく is a humble and formal version of もらう, it means to receive something or receive a favor. You may only use it about your own actions. 謙譲語 (kenjougo, aka humble speech) can only be used for your own actions, or the actions of members of your "group". Your sentence was therefore nonsensical, because you said "thank you for receiving the favor of teaching me". Doesn't make sense. You need to say 教えてくれてありがとう, which is "thank you for *doing* me the favor of teaching me".
