I'm loving this new pace of video. It's a VERY unique approach. Take us to beautiful places, but talk to us about in-depth subjects in your Japanese life. It might not always be possible, since you're doing double work, haha. 1) Going to cool places and 2) scripting in-depth content. but this is really great! Thank you for sharing your story and the Nakasendo with us!

Just what I was looking for, as I am also planning to leave my job in Japan soon. As a teacher at a junior high school, I don't have to worry about overtime or a high level of stress per se, but since teaching isn't my dream job and doesn't pay what I deserve -- not to mention that I've been working for decades in jobs I didn't want to do -- I have decided that now is the time for me to go all-in on my own business. It appears to be a scary thing when your residency is dependent upon a work visa and there's no guaranteed cash flow once you leave your job, especially when you have been living abroad for ten years and have no plan of ever moving back to your home country. However, I do now own my own kominka, 100%, in the countryside, and have been building my own KZbin channel around it. It's my plan to continue building that channel's content, increasing my views and followers, renovating and cleaning my minka, and then renting it out as a holiday home, effectively replacing my income and creating my own business that can support my residency here. I won't say it's scary, because I don't believe it is. I believe that fear of things like this are artificial creations -- just appearances, not the reality. The actual truth, the reality, is that you can do it, I can do it -- we can all do it. If it was placed in your heart as a desire, then there is perfect reason to believe that it was meant to be.

I'm in the same damn situation as you, got depressed because of working here in Japan, stopped working for a while to recover, started again to work for a Japanese company but I realized I really can't do it anymore or else I'll just end up sick, burnt out with no passion for life, so my Japanese wife is trying to convince me that's its better to just work for myself and make a small business and it really doesn't matter about money as much as about actually be in peace. Good luck to you too, cheers 🍻
@akiyajapan
@akiyajapan 2 жыл бұрын
@@otmane87 spot on, man. I'm glad you have some support from a Japanese wife and also needn't worry about the visa situation. As for work making you sick eventually, that's accurate. If it's not what you really want to do with your life and time, then all it'll do is make you ill. I had to stop working on my house for a few months due to a cancerous tumor on my kidney, earlier this year. I could barely teach, and going uphill to the school was torture. It made me realize that my mindset, feelings, and choices were to blame. I'd been doing this type of lifestyle for so many years -- decades, even -- that it just broke me down. If I could marry now then I would because it would relieve a couple of burdens, but my current girlfriend isn't yet at a place where she can marry. Essentially, it's all on me... Bit that's okay because I know that I, just like you, can do it!

Johannes, not sure what time you filmed this, but the post town looks like a ghost town. Doesn't look terribly warm either. The video prompts some more questions, which you may consider for your next video. Did you prefer creating apps or managing others doing the creating? Do you think you achieved your aim of leaving on good terms with your old company? Did you give plenty of notice so a successor could be trained? Are you setting up a German company or a Japanese one?
@JapaneseJourney

Thanks for the great questions John! I took some of the non-talking shots in the morning, from 9:30 to 10:00, the remainder and the talking stuff from 2-4 PM. On a Monday. I also spent about 2.5 hours, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, in the cafe of one of the people I had interviewed for last year’s Naraijuku video. During that time, only 3 other customers visited.

Mexican work more hours than Japanese people do per week. Any google search will confirm that by all metrics, Mexicans work far longer days than anyone else. What this video describes, is basically any job in Mexico. You work tons of unpaid overtime out of fear of being fired.
