It's a shame that this beautiful gorilla troop who have gone through a tough several days have to put up with loud groups of people who are not showing any kind of respect. I know the zoo makes money off of them but it's too bad they couldn't shut down these few days and give Shabani and his family some peace and quiet. I am saying this from my heart. I whole heartedly love this troop and several others; D'jecco troop, Monotaro troop, Haoko troop, etc. Thanks to people like JZ, GL, and others that give us the best videos! I pray that Nene can feel better soon; this troop needs her. The way they smell her scent and seem scared by it; like they know something more than we know. I didn't mean to go on and on; but as you can see I love them as much as the rest of you.

He obviously cares about Nene being absent (because knowing where everyone is is part of his silverback "protect the troop" instinct), but standing up to Kiyomasa definitely seems to override any other concerns.

It was very nice to see the zoo letting Nene eat in peace and have some quiet time to herself. She's much older than her family members, and when they bite her, she really can't bite back because she doesn't have front teeth anymore. I think the younger ones take advantage of that. It's amazing. Their personalities aren't much different from us.

Poor Nene 😢 I’m so glad she is getting soft food in Basement . But still makes me sad she isn’t getting around well. I worry she will fall from the high places Or get stuck and not be able to get down . 😢. What or HOW would the keepers be able to get to her if anything happens. OMG Nene can hardly move, her right side is effected. Having banana's and fruit in the basement is fine and she better be getting pain relief with it. So far I have only seen neglect from the zoo.

This troop seem well looked after and dear Nene hope she can rest comfortably and get well. But i really do hate that room with such hard surfaces. Gorillas need soft areas to make nests to sleep. Run , play, forage for food with grass and trees around their enclosure. 🌳🌲🌿🍃🦍🦍💚

Thank you for all the information! Annie knows Nene is getting yummy food and extra attention from the keepers too. Annie has had to have that at times as well. Nene looks so sore from her fall, but she seems to be recuperating. 💛

@@Steve-qn8gn Being old is like this - for people too. There are several age related crises where it looks bad and one recovers from until the one occurs that is finally the last. Hopefully, Nene will continue to recuperate. But, she is a very old gorilla. She had a bug and got weakened, so hopefully she will continue to recover, but you're correct, she looks very unwell.

I'm trying to give this zoo and its keepers the benefit of doubt but it's getting harder and harder. How is eating bananas going to cure the dislocated hip, difficultly in walking, constant pain, and swollen hand and forehead? In my opinion, this zoo appears to only care about the money Shabani and his troop brings in; Nene's health and wellbeing is clearly secondary.

It is actually a first time I am sad that Shabani won't discipline Annie like D'jeeco do it with his wife's. All he is doing is display, he is extremely gentle silverback, which is not always good, as we can see - Annie looked right at him before launching at injured Nene, cus she know he won't do much, she knew what she was doing and her position in family, one day it may come out of control, including if she will bully someone in her future family and get some painful marks after that😔

I know some have said she’s trying to “payback” Nene for the treatment that she got from her. But I can’t imagine that Annie is plotting against Nene. This is just what young gorillas do when they mature. The problem is that they shouldn't still be here. They should have moved on to their own lives by now, so its really not their fault. But annie attacking nene now while she is weak and defenseless is no different than nene attacking annie when she was a weak and defenseless baby. Gorilla life is just rough sometimes.

It’s hard to watch this play out has it has been. And like you said things would be very different if in the wild. But in captivity it’s much different and this is where the zoo can do some intervention to give some of these gorillas a better quality of life in captivity

Why doesn’t Japan provide their gorillas with a more natural environment such as larger green areas to roam around in? Why can’t they have straw to build nests and something else besides concrete to break falls? Have a plan on what to do when the gorillas become adolescents. It seems like they are well fed, but that’s not the only thing that will contribute to their well being long term. Is it really that challenging and expensive to provide this for them? Aren’t there any wealthy individuals in Japan that love the great apes? I’ve never seen any zoos in Japan celebrate the birthdays with enrichments like other zoos in The US or some other countries.

I’m sure they’re bored, they haven’t been outside for days. Their routine has been messed up since Nene started feeling bad and they are already in a unnatural environment. Annie hasn’t been playing with Ai or Kiyo like usual, this could by why she’s messing with Nene more than usual. I’m sure they are stressed, especially Shabani. Hopefully it gets better soon.

You know without going into the politics about Zoos being good or and bad etc I still think that all the animals in Zoos should not be subjected to the noise and bad behaviour by the other “human”animals who come to view them.They should have viewing areas that are visually and audibly respectful to all these amazing creatures .When I watch the videos I need to turn the sound down and not watch the antics of those on the other side.I know they mean well but I really feel for the animals being teased and made fun of.❤

Oh I totally agree!!! Especially at this time. People need to show a little respect to these beautiful animals as well as other animals. They also need to teach their kids to respect them. I have seen Shabani's facial features when he is looking out at the crowds. It is either pissed off or totally disgusted. ​@@PowerScissor I agree. The staff know this troop well and I'm sure a vet is keeping an eye on Nene. If something is wrong that requires surgery, they won't do it because the anesthesia would most likely kill Nene at her age. We can't see what goes on in the basement, so we don't know exactly what staff is doing to help her. She may be getting injections of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and pain medication. Everyone should keep in mind how old Nene really is! The zoo might be managing her condition in a way similar to what Hospice does for humans. Keeping her as comfortable as possible. Of course, Nene's in pain and it shows. Don't we also limp, stumble, and walk slowly as we age too? Don't we also have medical conditions that simply don't have an easy fix? IMO, I think the zoo and Shabani are doing a great job at letting Nene rest. They can't keep her completely separated from the family because she's a gorilla; a social creature by nature. I think all of the viewers should be realistic and prepare themselves for Nene's passing. Having said all this, I too, feel bad for her and will be sad when she's gone. But also relieved that she will no longer be in pain 🦍❤🥲

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I've seen Annie try to nurse a wound on Nene a few times in the past. They've even had peaceful moments that seemed to make Annie happy. I just think Annie does these things because she always sees Shabani and Kiyo do it and it's rubbed on off her. Or she still wants any form of attention from Nene and doesn't understand why Nene isn't chasing her like before? I'm sure she knows there's something wrong with Nene, so I'm a little surprised with Annie's more persistent behavior. (I could be 100% wrong though! I'm just expressing my feelings. Annie most the time taps Nene and runs. Annie was artificially nursed and raised by the zoo for the first 10 months or so, because her mother didn't care for her. When she was introduced to the group everything was great except for nene. Nene constantly attacked her and a few times it was even obvious that she was trying to kill her. Now that annie is bigger and stronger she has been dishing it out to nene. Unfortunately now nene is weak and defenseless, but annie was just a weak and defenseless baby when she attacked her so...

Annie was taken away from the troop because AI her mother rejected her. Later when she was reintroduced Nene a wild animal did not trust her around her son and saw Annie as a threat to him.

There's something wrong with her and they shouldn't be hitting on her she can barely walk she almost fell off the platform a few days ago, they need to run some tests to make sure she's not suffering , ik she's old but it's not fair to her to slowly die off . I hope the staff intervenes and does something to make her more comfortable for what time she's got left which doesn't look like allot.

Please let Nene recover in peace. Annie is so abusive to Nene. It makes me mad the staff let this happen day after day. Separate Annie let her be by herself maybe after a few days alone maybe she will leave Nene alone. Nene needs something soft to lay on. All the concrete isn’t natural. Nene needs lots of love and meds she is in pain.

A combination of Nene being the weakest/slowest member of the troop and possibly because Nene used to attack Annie when she was an infant, so she's got the gorilla equivalent of a grudge.

The food this troop is fed is a disgrace! It's not the keepers but the owners here. The Keepers can only work with what they get I'm sure. but this diet is not sufficiant for them. Just my opinion.

And how would you know that they're not doing anything for Nene? Do you have a private line to the vet? You have the inside scoop? Tell us everything. Is her hip or her leg broken? Does she have swelling going on? Tell us what the vet said, don't hold back. Were all adults here, we can take it. You only see what's going on in the video's but what about behind the scenes. She's old so it's going to take longer for her to heal.

Just a helpful tip: You keep reversing the pronoun genders. He, his, him, and so on are used for males (Shabani, Kiyomasa). She, hers, her and so on are used for the females (Nene, Ai, Annie).
