There's not many videos about this camera out there so thank you for making this. I know where there is a shop which as of a few months ago has 2 nikon S's with 5cm f/2, but I'm not sure how much they were. Most likely about ebay prices based on the price tags of other items I could see. I would like to have one because of its historical significance, and hopefully someday I can make it to that shop when I have some extra money and they will still have at least one.

Are you going to make a video of the changing the shutter curtain? That would be super interesting.

I still have a Nikon F2 and a Nikkomat (lenses are all interchangeable on a bayonet fitting) with standard lenses, a big heavy telephoto lense and and fish eye lense. I also have an ancient Practicka, with a large selection of lenses, that I take on the beach etc. where I won't take my Nikons.

Excellent review. Thank you for posting. I have a 1938 Contax II and I can see the elements used by Nikon for this model. Interesting combination of Leica and Contax designs. When the shutter is repaired will it be for sale. I am interested. With or without the 50mm lens.

When you ever get around to changing out the cloth shutter curtains to the metal shutter curtains can you make a video showing how to do it?

10:48 Compared to majority of the early Nikon F cases (and the Nikkorex 35 cases of similar design) that have had stitching split and are in pieces that case is in phenomenal condition.

After the war, Japan was a broken country. They realy had little to say about their industries. It is not hard to see why they were over ruled in the matter. But, it didn't last for long.

You guys pronounce the Company name [Nippon kogaku] and the name of the lenses [Nikkor] correctly, so why is it so hard to pronounce the camera's name correctly! You can't even pronounce Leica correctly. Oh Man !!!!

The man clearly said at the beginning of his video that he understands the "correct" pronunciation, but makes a conscious decision to pronounce it the way he grew up saying it based around his American vernacular.

My wife's family, when we visit Ecuador or hardly anyone from Ecuador, can say my first name correctly. They do it because they live in different part of the world, it's not a big deal to stress over, people aren't doing it specifically annoy me or you.

Please take this as a half-joke (from an Englishman) but do you mean “nihon” or “nippon”? To be serious: I was told by several mmediate post war liberal (left wing) Japanese, that nihon is preferable because it has less military overtones; nippon, being more of a prewar (axis power) term. I doubt that you’ll find any Japanese person that you know who can provide a definitive answer, nevermind even be aware of this point. Meanwhile The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) avoid the whole issue (in Japanese). Do they know something that 外国人 do not (no pressure then)?!
@japanvintagecamera8869 Жыл бұрын
On the cameras themselves, they say "Nippon Kogaku," though I never hear the word "Nippon" spoken in public.
