Do you know if the close up adapter for the pearl ii works with the pearl iii? They seem the same size etc.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am doing a lot of research on the Olympus OM-1. I recently found an Olympus OM-1 in an abandoned house because it was hit by a flood. The camera was submerged in water with mud that has already dried inside. Consequently, there is mud inside it and nothing works. I will have to open it very carefully, clean the dirt and then replace parts if necessary, and then lubricate it during reassembly and adjustment with calibrations. I accepted the challenge because I like restoring old watches. This is my big hobby (restoring old watches). However, this is the first time I have held an analog camera in my hands. Since I have tools, resources and watchmaker lubricants, I challenged myself to restore the camera, its 50mm lens and its flash, along with the leather case it was in. Your video served as a basis for the knowledge I need to accumulate to finally start the restoration. If you could give me some tips, I would be very happy to receive them. Thank you very much! I wish you success and prosperity in your life.

I had a Topcon Super and a Topcon RE about fifty years ago. Mechanically they were great cameras, but they couldn't compete with Nikon or Canon in lens quality or the availability of accessories like motor drives or other professional add ons.

I’m having the hardest time deciding between the Canon VT Deluxe and the L1😅 Any recommendations?
@japanvintagecamera8869Күн бұрын
The L1 usually has metal shutter curtains like the Canon P and Canon 7, this make it more durable, and more accurate.

Hi I have a question! I recently found this camera at a thrift shop and I am looking into which battery to use. I noticed in the video you mentioned using a LR44 but in the manual it says it needs a 1.3 volt. Is the .2 gonna make a large difference?
@japanvintagecamera88693 күн бұрын
Using a 1.5v battery can made a difference of up to 2 stops. I recommend using a Wein cell battery, which you can find on Amazon, or a 1.3v adapter for an LR44 battery. I would check first with an LR44 battery to make sure the light meter works, about half the time it doesn't.

Bought a couple of these in the early 2000s for $50 each (you could hardly give away film cameras back then). Spent $200 on a cla for them, and shot a lot of film with them. Good camera.

Thanks again for this great video. I just followed along for all of it, with a cheap (60 USD) Konica IIIA that I managed to find in Thailand. It has been one of my dream cameras for a while, and I finally found a cheap one on my birthday. I guess it was cheap because of its sticky shutter, but weirdly there was another one on the shelves for twice the price and in worse condition. I guess they didn't know what they had. The lens is not perfect (a couple of small marks on the rear assembly that I couldn't get off), but it won't have any effect on the photos. It looks like you can possibly take apart the rear elements, so maybe one day I will try that. I have decided not to remove the EV interlock yet, I will try and use the camera for a while first. One thing that others might want to know when they do this: take a picture of the settings (shutter speed, aperture, EV) before you take the camera apart, so you have a reference. The first time I put the shutter/lens assembly back onto the body, the EV, aperture and shutter speed weren't turning correctly with each other. I removed it, changed it to my reference settings, and it was fine.

In 1989 the Nikkei closed at nearly 40k, and during that time Japan edged out the USA as the world's largest economy. An expat apartment in Tokyo at that time could cost about $30,000 per month, or about the price of a new Corvette sports car.

It's always best to wind the film and the shutter in one smooth motion. You can do it by inverting the camera, holding the nob, and straightening up the camera thus winding it in one motion. I think when rewinding the film you need to continue passing in the release button the whole way through.
@atf29406 күн бұрын
Nice video. You forgot to mention the most significant improvement in handling the camera: the speed can be dialled in after as well as before (!) winding the film. The setting mechanism has completely changed. In my exemplar the speeds are perfectly accurate across the whole range, and the camera has never seen a complete service -- amazing quality!

Such as sexy camera. I have a IIIa, built in 1954; had CLA’d a few years ago and works perfectly, but I wish it was a IIa. Thanks for the nice review. The original Zeiss 135mm that came along with it, is an outstanding optic. Also, mine came with the Jena f2 50mm; initially, I looked for an Opton f1.5 to upgrade, but after CLA and seeing images shot on HP5+, I see no need to upgrade: The Jena is fabulous.

NB; Remember that the pre-war wideangles (and the Soviet 35mm f2.8 Jupiter 12) will foul the shutter on this camera, and therefore can't be used.

Good Day from Pennsylvania, USA. I found your channel searching for information about my Ricohmatic 44 and found a really nicely done video about it! Thanks! My father used the camera for our family photos when I was a kid. I still have the box with that cool lid that slides off! LOL! Now that I've watched this I may have to give it a try. I also have a very good condition Brownie with the flash and bulbs still in the box. Finally, I have my first camera bought in 1983 or 84, a Ricoh X-RP as well as a Canon A-E1 that was give to me by a family member. I haven't really thought about using any of them in a long time because I use the old lenses on my Fuji X-T3. I'm going to check out more of your videos and have subscribed. Thanks again for this video. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Thanks for this discussion. I really want to get a solid rangefinder soon. However, I always wonder how well suited these vintage cameras are for people who wear glasses. Also, I'm hearing some interference on your audio, like a radio station. Are you using a wireless mic?
@Rangefinder486 күн бұрын
I also wear glasses and have tried both the Contax and Nikon rangefinders. As for the rangefinder patch, Contax’s are more contrasty than Nikon’s. In terms of the viewfinder’s brightness, Nikon’s are much brighter and bigger, therefore I find it much easier to use Nikon rangefinders while wearing glasses.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up three OM-2n cameras for $100 USD. Two of the cameras worked with new batteries. The third one turns on, but for some reason it tends to need to be reset often. It came with one shoe 4. The camera is lightweight and built brilliantly. I have procured 50mm lens online for each camera since the price of lenses is affordable. Up to now, I have never used an Olympus camera. I am quite impressed with it.

How do you clean Oil off the shutter blades and if the shutter blades stick at slow shutter speeds how do you deal with that?
@japanvintagecamera88699 күн бұрын
It depends on the particular camera, some have an internal shutter, some are external. With an external shutter, you can remove the lens and the shutter speed dial, and access the slow speed escapement. With an internal shutter you must remove the leatherette and the front panel of the camera. If you don't have the tools, you can drop solvent through the self timer or shutter charging slot, and hold the camera so gravity pulls the solvent the right way. Just don't use too much solvent. The escapement on cameras with 1/400 or 1/500 is usually on the bottom of the shutter, for 1/300 and slower, it is usually on the top.

You can't be serious! GET TO THE POINT!!!! Ten or fifteen minutes blathering about some park no one has ever seen and which you are not SHOWING because this is twenty minutes of the same shot of a light meter is a waste of people's time. People want to know how to operate a Sekonic light meter. If they wanted a travelogue, they'd search for a travelogue. Fifteen divergences into other historical topics or other possible ways to meter light is NOT what people come to see. This is a worthless video.
