When I visit the Wikipedia page about your murder It takes me almost five minutes to find your name It is tucked deep among the list of the thirty one other victims I hate that word:victim It's so small Words should have to be as big as the thing they describe Whatever word we replace victim with should take as long to say As it took me to find your name But there you are Henry Lee Number 16 It took me so long to find you because they used your government name Your American name The one your parents thought would keep you safe Even though I never heard anyone call you anything other than Hen Hen Lee Hen Hen When I type your name Hen Lee into Google I find a thousand living people with your name and no mention of you I spend hours looking at their photographs to see if any of them have your smile So that I can hate them Call them thief When I type Henry Lee into Google The first entry is the Wikipedia page about your murderer The thing I hate most about being human Isn't our penchant for violence Although that's a close second It's the fact that we won't be remembered for the lives we lead Only for the people who made us this way Despite all of the death I have seen How often I have wanted to bring someone back I have always hated All of the Frankenstein stories No one seems to care or even remember that Frankenstein was the scientist The creation was nameless Nameless like you feel now Hen The Wikipedia page about the Virginia Tech massacre is twelve thousand words long Less the five hundred are dedicated to the thirty two who were murdered The rest are about him Or the man who took your name away

Even when I’m just not feeling poetry and haven’t been relating to button, I have to stop and listen to Jared Singer and I’m thankful for buttons introduction years ago. Powerful as always.

Every poem Jared Singer performs always feel so /raw/. I can always feel his heartache like it is my own. I didn't know he'd published a book, looks like I may need to find some money to get it.

Jared's poems always make me feel like I'm in his mind and emotions even if I've never truly experienced what he's referencing. I love every one of them for this reason.

Notice how this hasn't got a single dislike? It's because not even those who dont like him can say that this wasn't one of the most powerful poems. Edit: whoever disliked this was just crying and couldn't see the like button

Other than excellent writing and diction, I can respect Jared choosing to commemorate his friend without ever mentioning the name of the perpetrator of the Virginia Tech shooting. The poem was about one of the victims, as it should be.
