I heard the name Injun Joe as a child from my grandparents. It’s odd as grandmother was from back in the hills of Virginia and grandfather back in the hills of West Virginia. Yet both knew the name and heard similar tails.

I have a coworker, he is a legitimate "brave", 100% Navajo. We talk a little about slin walkers, he is VERY RESERVED what he will tell me. But, some Strange Things he knows.. but, my understanding, ONLY the navajo are skin walkers, and they can transport in a "gorde", long distances very fast. (STRANGE DEMONIC CRAP). - old testament of the Bible and more nasty.

This is a good story. I've never heard this story before. However, I was in my early 50's when I heard the word "Skinwalkers" in a book review on Educational radio (WMKY 90.6 FM). That review set me into reading many Navajo, fictional novels by Tony Hilleman (and other authors of Indigenas, fictional novels and History books). Tony Helleman's novel "Skinwalkers", is a great read and explains the term "Skinwalker" very well. Your story also brought back memories of the cartoon strip "Li'l Abner" that had a little man called "Injun Joe" in it. Thank you.

Dang, Jared, that's just downright creepy! I say that because back then, that term was used by just the Native Tribes of the Southwest and West, mostly. It's common language now but not really before the mid to late 1970s, so the one tracking him had traveled quite a-ways themselves! I suspicion that the one person that showed him friendship was the only reason the townsfolk weren't hurt. He was kind, but that one person showed him that the townsfolk weren't scared of much either! Much thanks to Wayford for telling you this story to share. Do hope Queen Lora is getting better. Hey Nancy!!😃 I dunno, there were tribes here in Tennessee. He never really said what tribe actually so I dunno lol he just told me the story. And also the way he told the story, the skinwalker seemed really old so may have been when the Native Americans were still here an the task was handed down to him to track him. @@JaredKingTV yep! That's what I was actually thinking!😊All the tribes in Tennessee and the surrounding states have different names for a skinwalker though. That's where my assumption comes from. I believe both were Natives, just not from Tennesse or anywhere in the southern US.

Injun joe lived in Geauga county Ohio in a swampy area between Auburn and Aurora, last I knew he was there in the early to mid 1980s. None of the natives living nearby would go near him.
