I wonder if the great George Harrison hadn't used his fame to introduce eastern music to the world, Ravi Shankar in particular, if it would ever found its way to so many listeners. The thing is, we westerners in our arrogance fail to recognize that many of the greatest musicians don't hale from the US or the UK, but from India As for me I became fascinated by Indian music after hearing it in some of the Beatles songs we all love- especially this one. George would have thoroughly enjoyed this rendition. Thanks for sharing it.

I was 12 years old when this came out on Sgt. Peppers. I used to listen to it on head phones daily, like entering into another world. When George sang of the people who live behind a wall of illusion and asks "Are you one of them?" I thought to myself I certainly hope not, but how do I know if I am just another illusioned unfortunate soul. This song led to my becoming a Hare Krishna monk for over 20 years, thanks to George. This is very well done. It must have taken a lot of rehearsal. Not an easy song to perform publicly but recreated very well.

To me these sounds tell two great stories: - 1. Mr. Harrison created a great work, especially the lyrics. 2. The tradition of Indian music is so great and rich that he needed only a few fragments (I won't say "samples") to provide enough to work with. Many thanks to all the musicians from both the original recording and this worthy version.

The Beatles took their transcendence trip(s) very seriously and they did uncover a few things that they maybe found impossible to share. I also BELIEVE that when they produced this number (and others pieces of music, as well) the money was not foremost on their mind! They went by content and beauty. Still, the world responded beautifully and gobbled it up! What would the world be without the Beatles!
@mirandachilde18942 жыл бұрын
This is extraordinary. The musicians are first rate - authentic. And I can actually hear the parts more clearly than in the over-produced original on Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Vocalist/ Conductor was a real surprise. His voice is as least as good as Harrison’s - and I can make out EVERY word which I never could on the record. Thankfully the lyrics were on the sleeve of the original album. I will keep this. It’s one of my favorite “Beatle” songs and this performance is a definite keeper. Many thanks to the poster for the joy he has brought to so many of us!

We were talking about the space between us all And the people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion Never glimpse the truth, then it's far too late, when they pass away We were talking about the love we all could share When we find it, to try our best to hold it there with our love With our love, we could save the world, if they only knew Try to realise it's all within yourself No one else can make you change And to see you're really only very small And life flows on within you and without you We were talking about the love that's gone so cold And the people who gain the world and lose their soul They don't know, they can't see, are you one of them? When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find Peace of mind is waiting there And the time will come when you see we're all one And life flows on within you and without you
