@@zahara1651 as an Orthodox Jew I follow the Torah. This includes the written and the oral Torah. The oral Torah explains how to keep the mitzvot in the written Torah. The Torah doesn’t explain how to keep Shabbat for example, it just says to keep the Shabbat. The oral Torah explains what that means for us.

@@zahara1651 What is the problem to understand, what Channa told you i a so nice way? Thora is for observant jews the oral and the written thora-which both were given to moishe rabenu and kol am israel at mount sinai. She doesnt tell you what to eat, what to belive.. why cant you be like her? p.s. and it is ! written in the thora - it is one of the mitzwot to follow the wise man of your generation (and of corse those were before)

@@zahara1651 it is true. Chicken is not meat, but the rabbis decided to consider it meat and so now we consider it as meat. Not as mindless sheep, but as ppl who follow the rabbis which we are supposed to do

I just read the replies posted, I can not believe how negative the feelings were. Channa believes poultry is considered meat. Let her live and observe the way she wants to. If you don't have the same beliefs, don't write she's wrong. On a happier note, Channa I hope you have a great Campsgiving. Have a joyous Shabbat

I enjoy watching you cook so much! I know your hubby is an great chef and enjoy that too but I love watching you. I also cracked up at you! Of course, Chex Mix is the common camping food of the menu! 😂 so you! You live beautifully! Surely this adventurous woman willing to show such grace, faith and heart must’ve mesmerised your to be husband. One tip: I soak my potatoes in a lightly soaped water or vinegar water to wash- scrub a dub and then I bake them, that way I can put the whole potatoes in a zipper bag and store them many days in advance and bonus- they easily peel cold and get allll caramelised. We make Southern cornbread dressing and have my whole life. I make a couple iron skillets worth about 4-5 days ahead and lay them into my large disposable pans and crumble. One- it’s easier on my hands to crumble while soft and two, it is desirable for our preference and family recipe to get it really dry so that it’ll soak up the flavour built into the simmered vegetables and stock. We use some homemade biscuits in it - like a 1/6 ratio, just about texture. For gluten free cooking, I have a celiac daughter who lives in Montana now but when she’s here, we leave it out or use a gf mix. I want to also make sure that if I mention a pathway I use to get to a result or a tip- it’s just me sharing- I get as many tips and new ideas from watching you and others 👥- and reading comments. I sometimes won’t comment because I fear it’s not taken as a conversation not a compliment that I like your vibe and feel able to share without it seeming like “well actually this way is better...” Not at all my intent :)

I have to delay my Thanksgiving every year due to my Policeman son Jose who works every Thanksgiving. He is single and I as his mother am determined he will not miss out on our traditions and meal. I love that you make cornbread stuffing or dressing. I make mine from scratch also. I love cranberry sauce and I make my own gravy also. The only thing I do not make are the pies, which I buy from a local bistro who have won awards for their scrumptious pies and my son adores their sweet potato pie. I love turkey but I cook it differently. There is a solution for the smell and it helps enhance the flavours. It does work for any kind of poultry. If you don’t mind a suggestion 😊 The night before the cooking, let the bird soak in lemon juice and water, lots of juice, for an hour or so. Then drain and cover it from inside and out with a mix of garlic, turmeric, cumin, ginger, cinnamon and coriander/parsley, also hot spices if you like them. Let it sit overnight in the fridge and it’s ready to go in the oven with your favourite stuffing. I personally like rice with 🫒olives. You might want to add some preserved lemons, whole or cut in small pieces.

I do the same method for the cranberry sauce. Sometimes, if I have one handy, I will zest 1 or 2 oranges or tangerines into the sauce. The double batch is alot so to avoid wasting any I will use about a cup of it to make an apple cranberry pie. I use Granny Smith apples, sugar, cinnamon, and tapioca plus the cranberry sauce for the filling. Always a hit with the folks who like tart flavors.

I’ve always made my Thanksgiving meal from scratch, too. These days, our youngest son runs 3 cell phone stores in a major market city and works all Black Friday ensuring everything runs smoothly. I made our meal, hubby packed it all up, and we drove an hour to have our feast at his apartment! Crazy, but he worked up until 6 pm on Thanksgiving preparing for the rush to come, and had planned to order Chinese takeout. Nothing wrong with Chinese, but it’s Thanksgiving 🤦🏻‍♀️ It actually turned into a wonderful, insane evening, one we will never forget. Also, I’ve always made my cranberry sauce, but I substitute the water with orange juice. It doesn’t interfere with the taste of the berries, just gives it a little flavor twist. Thanks for the videos and the glimpse into your lovely family.

My husband and I worked in EMS for over 20yrs, so our major holidays were often moved around, either the meal relocated or we celebrated on a different date. Growing up, my sister and I were the oldest of my one grandmother's grandkids, so once there was a bunch of us she'd go from house to house on Christmas Day, and usually came to our house the 26th. We typically did our "Christmas" dinner that day with her.

First-HAPPY THANKSGIVING! The washi tape idea is brilliant! Definitely stealing that one. I always mess up my recipe cards/printouts when they sit in the counters. Your turkey looks amazing. I love your t-shirt. What a great message, especially on a day like today. Giving thanks and being generous-the things God has called us to be. And, I too had never heard of having macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving until I moved to the Southeast. It is definitely a “southern thing.” Where I live many families also have baked beans. Not this family, baked beans are for barbecues, not Thanksgiving! Lol I also had never heard of cornbread dressing until moving to the South. In Ohio (the North) where I am from we have herb stuffing from the bird. The only way you normally had baked dressing is if there was extra left after the turkey was stuffed. Your plate looked so good. I am getting hungry and anxious to have our Thanksgiving meal around 2:00 today. We are not cooking this year. We are going out to eat with family. Again, HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Looking forward to Monday to see how your Campsgiving went. Blessings, Shawn

You need an instant pot!! I put my unpeeled sweet potatoes on a trivet inside the inner pot, put a cup of water in and pressure cook for 12 minutes. In less than 20 minutes, start to finish, you have your cooked and ready to peel sweet potatoes. Best part is if you let them cool for a 10 minutes, while you gather ingredients for the souffle, the peels slide right off! My dogs always get the peels. Extra vitamins for them and no waste so it's a win! I also instant pot my eggs for deviled eggs and my regular potatoes for potato salad etc. It has been a total game changer!

My hubby and I don't usually do much for holidays at all. It's just the 2 of us, so it's pointless to cook a huge meal, or waste money on gifts at Christmas when we have bills to pay. This year, we are really not feeling festive as we had to put our 11 yr old cat, Meekers, to sleep on Monday, because of finding cancer in her chest next to her heart. We lost her sister, Pippi, 2 month prior and were still healing from that when we had to make that horrible decision for Meekers. So we're both quite down, and just spent the day watching movies and football. I want to try your cornbread stuffing recipe, as cornbread is one of my husband's favorite things. It looked so yummy. Hope you had a lovely camps-giving with the family

You can always use a permanent pan not only for Turkey but also to make large lasagnas and freeze and other casseroles. Beats adding to the landfills.

Our Thanksgiving was low maintenance this year. We had a homeschool thanksgiving, a church thanksgiving, and this weekend if things work out an extended family thanksgiving. I told everyone to pick one thing they really wanted that was Thanksgiving to them and then made just those things. It is a good thing too, because my littlest is very sick today and has been since Tuesday night. Since I had not planned much I was able to get it done and still snuggle with my sick kid watching movies most of the day. I hope your Campsgiving was lovely!

@@jaroffireflies For the best ever cranberry sauce, substitute orange juice for the water and add orange rind. You will never make it any other way. If I am ambitious, I squeeze my own juice and grate the rind. When I am lazy, I use bottle, refrigerated OJ and dehydrated orange peel that I got in the spice section of a bulk food store.

I ended up making my grandma's chicken stock on Tuesday and cornbread. Then last night I put together her dressing with the cornbread and toasted bread with celery/onion with of course poultry seasoning, sage and thyme. Turkey is currently in the oven right now.

Chana, I need to know! Did you make the gravy???😂 hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving. Camping seems like an awesome idea, can’t wait to see how it went. I always work so our thanksgiving is always pretty low key. This we we had…. Pie. Chicken pot pie, pumpkin pie and apple pie. My son make the pumpkin and my daughter the apple. She even cut out a cute turkey for the top crust with little leaves around it. I was very impressed with her! I’m a plain crust with booting slits in it type of person, but she always goes all out with her decorations.

Living vicariously through you today Chana, bc I’m living alone 1000 miles away from any family. Just waited for an hour in the cold outside in line just for Boston Market to run out of almost everything, & after a very obese couple who were very rude & disrespectful to everyone got 2 whole chickens & TEN large sides, wiping out most of the rest of their food. People with mobile holiday orders were demanding extra food without having to wait in the long line. Just totally ruined my day! But now I’m at home eating & watching your video & your channel always puts me in a better mood, so thank you for that 😄🦃

Happy Thanksgiving! I made my husband (he's from east Texas) cornbread dressing with chicken. It's unsweetened cornbread, cooked chicken, minced onions & celery, spices & a couple eggs to hold it together. I made a gluten free version for myself with gluten free bread. I also am having a sweet potato with cinnamon & butter. I make a cranberry compote with fresh cranberries & frozen cherry berry blend & a sweetener. I'm sugar-free. My husband doesn't like turkey & won't eat the other things, so I made enough for me. My kids are grown & doing their own thing across the country.

I like the idea of how you posted your recipes on the cabinets.Mom always makes the cranberry sauce she adds cut up oranges & nuts, I never made sweet potato like you did so I will make this for Christmas dinner . All families have their diet restrictions-my sister is gluten free. My 83 yr old parents finally agreed to give up hosting-my oldest sister agreed to host. Her daughter and son in law decided to deep fry the turkey for something new. They used peanut oil not remembering my brother and I are severely allergic. No turkey for us!! She also didn’t tell us she got a cat four of us very allergic. I spent four hours alone at my parents because I can’t be around cats. Then no turkey when my food came!! But life is good-what high class problems to have!! Love your channel!
