I enjoy watching you cook so much! I know your hubby is an great chef and enjoy that too but I love watching you. I also cracked up at you! Of course, Chex Mix is the common camping food of the menu! 😂 so you! You live beautifully! Surely this adventurous woman willing to show such grace, faith and heart must’ve mesmerised your to be husband. One tip: I soak my potatoes in a lightly soaped water or vinegar water to wash- scrub a dub and then I bake them, that way I can put the whole potatoes in a zipper bag and store them many days in advance and bonus- they easily peel cold and get allll caramelised. We make Southern cornbread dressing and have my whole life. I make a couple iron skillets worth about 4-5 days ahead and lay them into my large disposable pans and crumble. One- it’s easier on my hands to crumble while soft and two, it is desirable for our preference and family recipe to get it really dry so that it’ll soak up the flavour built into the simmered vegetables and stock. We use some homemade biscuits in it - like a 1/6 ratio, just about texture. For gluten free cooking, I have a celiac daughter who lives in Montana now but when she’s here, we leave it out or use a gf mix. I want to also make sure that if I mention a pathway I use to get to a result or a tip- it’s just me sharing- I get as many tips and new ideas from watching you and others 👥- and reading comments. I sometimes won’t comment because I fear it’s not taken as a conversation not a compliment that I like your vibe and feel able to share without it seeming like “well actually this way is better...” Not at all my intent :)

I love turkey but I cook it differently. There is a solution for the smell and it helps enhance the flavours. It does work for any kind of poultry. If you don’t mind a suggestion 😊 The night before the cooking, let the bird soak in lemon juice and water, lots of juice, for an hour or so. Then drain and cover it from inside and out with a mix of garlic, turmeric, cumin, ginger, cinnamon and coriander/parsley, also hot spices if you like them. Let it sit overnight in the fridge and it’s ready to go in the oven with your favourite stuffing. I personally like rice with 🫒olives. You might want to add some preserved lemons, whole or cut in small pieces.

I do the same method for the cranberry sauce. Sometimes, if I have one handy, I will zest 1 or 2 oranges or tangerines into the sauce. The double batch is alot so to avoid wasting any I will use about a cup of it to make an apple cranberry pie. I use Granny Smith apples, sugar, cinnamon, and tapioca plus the cranberry sauce for the filling. Always a hit with the folks who like tart flavors.

I made our meal, hubby packed it all up, and we drove an hour to have our feast at his apartment! Crazy, but he worked up until 6 pm on Thanksgiving preparing for the rush to come, and had planned to order Chinese takeout. Nothing wrong with Chinese, but it’s Thanksgiving 🤦🏻♀️ It actually turned into a wonderful, insane evening, one we will never forget. Also, I’ve always made my cranberry sauce, but I substitute the water with orange juice. It doesn’t interfere with the taste of the berries, just gives it a little flavor twist. Thanks for the videos and the glimpse into your lovely family.

First-HAPPY THANKSGIVING! The washi tape idea is brilliant! Definitely stealing that one. I always mess up my recipe cards/printouts when they sit in the counters. Your turkey looks amazing. I love your t-shirt. What a great message, especially on a day like today. Giving thanks and being generous-the things God has called us to be. And, I too had never heard of having macaroni and cheese for Thanksgiving until I moved to the Southeast. It is definitely a “southern thing.” Where I live many families also have baked beans. Not this family, baked beans are for barbecues, not Thanksgiving! Lol I also had never heard of cornbread dressing until moving to the South. In Ohio (the North) where I am from we have herb stuffing from the bird. The only way you normally had baked dressing is if there was extra left after the turkey was stuffed. Your plate looked so good. I am getting hungry and anxious to have our Thanksgiving meal around 2:00 today. We are not cooking this year. We are going out to eat with family. Again, HAPPY THANKSGIVING. Looking forward to Monday to see how your Campsgiving went. Blessings, Shawn

You need an instant pot!! I put my unpeeled sweet potatoes on a trivet inside the inner pot, put a cup of water in and pressure cook for 12 minutes. In less than 20 minutes, start to finish, you have your cooked and ready to peel sweet potatoes. Best part is if you let them cool for a 10 minutes, while you gather ingredients for the souffle, the peels slide right off! My dogs always get the peels. Extra vitamins for them and no waste so it's a win! I also instant pot my eggs for deviled eggs and my regular potatoes for potato salad etc. It has been a total game changer!

My hubby and I don't usually do much for holidays at all. It's just the 2 of us, so it's pointless to cook a huge meal, or waste money on gifts at Christmas when we have bills to pay. This year, we are really not feeling festive as we had to put our 11 yr old cat, Meekers, to sleep on Monday, because of finding cancer in her chest next to her heart. We lost her sister, Pippi, 2 month prior and were still healing from that when we had to make that horrible decision for Meekers. So we're both quite down, and just spent the day watching movies and football. I want to try your cornbread stuffing recipe, as cornbread is one of my husband's favorite things. It looked so yummy. In our family, we only make dressing, we don't stuff the turkey, and we mix bread and cornbread together. So I would have added the cornbread dressing to the extra stuffing mix! Try it, you'll love it!

Happy Thanksgiving! This is my first as an empty nester. So I am choosing to work a graveyard shift. My kids all spent theirs with their families. Blessings from North Dakota.

Living vicariously through you today Chana, bc I’m living alone 1000 miles away from any family. Just waited for an hour in the cold outside in line just for Boston Market to run out of almost everything, & after a very obese couple who were very rude & disrespectful to everyone got 2 whole chickens & TEN large sides, wiping out most of the rest of their food. People with mobile holiday orders were demanding extra food without having to wait in the long line. Just totally ruined my day! But now I’m at home eating & watching your video & your channel always puts me in a better mood, so thank you for that 😄🦃

Hello Chana! I hope that Campsgiving worked out well for you, decent weather, fun, great walks, enjoying Creation and all those family memories. We do not do Thanksgiving, being an Aussie, but I love hearing all about it. Now that the granddaughter is 3, she can really participate and enjoy our various traditions. What is chex mix (spelling might be wrong)?

Hi Cate! We had a blast! Will post the thanksgiving vlog tomorrow! I show check mix in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXvQhqR4jdR_oa8 That’s the easiest way for me to explain it :)

Happy Thanksgiving! I made my husband (he's from east Texas) cornbread dressing with chicken. It's unsweetened cornbread, cooked chicken, minced onions & celery, spices & a couple eggs to hold it together. I made a gluten free version for myself with gluten free bread. I also am having a sweet potato with cinnamon & butter. I make a cranberry compote with fresh cranberries & frozen cherry berry blend & a sweetener. I'm sugar-free. My husband doesn't like turkey & won't eat the other things, so I made enough for me. My kids are grown & doing their own thing across the country.

you & your family have a Happy & Blessed Thanksgiving! I like the idea of how you posted your recipes on the cabinets.Mom always makes the cranberry sauce she adds cut up oranges & nuts, I never made sweet potato like you did so I will make this for Christmas dinner . I never had cornbread stuffing I use to stuff my turkey, but now I make stuffing balls I put them in a muffin pan. That will be exciting to go camping for Thanksgiving I always wanted to have Thanksgiving in the woods maybe one day have a lovely Thanksgiving !

Hi Chana...I certainly hope the weather at your campsite is A LOT better than what we have here in Ontario today! It's very dark @ 1:30 pm, the wind is COLD and it's RAINING! Wouldn't want to be at our cottage let alone in a tent on a campsite here today :P Your meal looked lovely. Hope your family and you are enjoying your Thanksgiving.

All families have their diet restrictions-my sister is gluten free. My 83 yr old parents finally agreed to give up hosting-my oldest sister agreed to host. Her daughter and son in law decided to deep fry the turkey for something new. They used peanut oil not remembering my brother and I are severely allergic. No turkey for us!! She also didn’t tell us she got a cat four of us very allergic. I spent four hours alone at my parents because I can’t be around cats. Then no turkey when my food came!! But life is good-what high class problems to have!! Love your channel!
