Күн бұрын

In this video, I prepare for Shabbat with Friday Day in the Life video! Shabbat is getting earlier now, but I had a lot of prep work done in advance as well as the fact that we were going out to dinner for Shabbat on Friday night that I didn't have as much to do as usual. That gave me time to do other things like play our new bagpipe chanters! We also had fun working as a family to do things like my youngest and I were baking bread together and my oldest and I were doing some cleaning and laundry together. I spend the whole day chatting with you as I get things done and get ready for Shabbat!
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

Hello friends! I just wanted to update, Ashkenazi brides and grooms do fast on their wedding day unless it is too difficult for them to fast or if the get married on Rosh Chodesh (the first of the month, a holiday) or on Hannukah. Thanks to all who gave me feedback on that one! It was so fun to hear about your wedding traditions in the conversation under my last video :)
@MarySmith-gu5nb
@MarySmith-gu5nb 2 жыл бұрын
Just out of curiosity, what is the spiritual significance of the fast? Are you sacrificing something out of respect for suffering others have done? (This, as you know, is the basis for most fasting in the Catholic church. To do penance and humbly beseech grace in memory, especially, of others who endured so much more). Are you fasting as a way of bringing you closer to god? Are you fasting so that others may eat?
@jaroffireflies

@@MarySmith-gu5nb fasting is a vehicle for reflecting and repenting for your sins on Yom Kippur, and fasting on your wedding day is because it’s like a personal Yom Kippur

Every morning when you wash your hands I think of myself, since I’m now retired, hand washing was something nurses do so much that we would get cracks in our hands. Now with Covid every time I make something when my oldest son is here he thinks he has to remind me to wash my hand. Lol I usually say, who’s the mother here?

Watching you prepare a meal for yourself then sit down to eat and read in peace will never get old. I'm in a season of life where I can't wake up before my kids and do this for myself. It brings me such joy that somewhere in Texas a mom is out there eating a meal at the desired temperature. 💕

Some suggestions regarding Shabbos desserts. You can make cookies, cakes, etc, and freeze. Then when you are stressed you can always pull something out. Another idea is to take some pareve whipping cream, sweeten it, whip it, make mounds of it on a cookie sheet and freeze. When you need a dessert, throw a frozen mond in a cup, add some cut fruit, and you have a dessert.

I've been having trouble falling asleep tonight and decided to watch your video. It's so calming - the music, your voice, the interactions with your children. As soon the music started, it was like this wave of peace poured over me. I literally let out a calming breath, almost like a deep sigh and felt instantly relaxed! I knew immediately that it was the perfect time to watch it! That is so cool that you and your son are going to be learning to play the bagpipes together!! I loved how your little one was excited by it and also wants to play it! I played the violin with the school orchestra from fourth through ninth grade and really enjoyed it! I'm tone deaf so it was a real challenge to get it right but I had excellent, patient teachers who give me an extra lesson or two every week and lots of practice time after school. My grandson now plays cello with the school orchestra. He uses one of the school's instruments so he doesn't have any practice time. My daughter and son-in-law told him of he enjoys it and wants to practice at home, they would rent one for him. If that happens, I'm considering renting a violin for myself and taking lessons again. Maybe he and I could play together! I think I can finally fall asleep! Thank you for all you do and for bringing a calmness to this crazy world that we live in! Take care! Can't wait to see Thursday's video!

Thank you for your videos. They caused a conversation between my husband and I. In the Christian community there is a lack of sabbath. Especially for moms. Watching you though, I talked to the hubby “how I couldn’t just leave the dishes” or how I I couldn’t do this or that. From watching you. And my husband just looked at me and said “Sarah it’s about discipline and just resting that Abba has and will provide for you”. Pierce the heart with conviction. Do Saturday I woke up. I got to work. I made extra food. So I wouldn’t need to cook at all on Sunday. Think about a meal (which is a load off and didn’t realize). Was it perfect no. But it’s a work in the right direction.

Chana, I see you have lots of holidays. I have a Jewish friend , well let’s say artist, who is way better than. I am. I paint stones and my DIL took 5-6 back with her to hide( last time I saw her was when we moved ) 3 years ago, they flew out from New York to help. She hid a few in Long Island, and around Manhattan. Not so sure it’s a “thing” there. On the back of the rock we make little stickers that say “ keep or rehide, enjoy , lol the made by Lodi rock group “ no name no initials, he posted one of my really fancy ones, it was a Mandella I had a beautiful parrot 🦜 on it. Not much else to do when your moving van was hijacked and took 7 weeks to get from Pennsylvania to California. Anyway, my “ friend “;in painting posted it on Facebook, telling the artist, me where he found it. The Facebook group is Lodi rocks. He was wondering how it got from here to grand central station. We are artist friends, don’t know if we will ever meet, he painted me a few things. He’s very talented. I see him online but now that I watch you I’m not sure when it is ok to send him an email, we are like artist pen pals. I knew Jewish people have lots of religious holidays. Speaking of holidays do you do thanksgiving? This will be the 2 nd year all alone, just hubby and I. The first year we were here the kids flew back for thanksgiving and my son from Portland flew home. We went to cousins house on the sat before. That way my younger two could get back-in time to start decorating stores and huge houses for Christmas. They did come back for 10 days at Christmas, we have a lot of points on one credit card ( finally got smart and put almost all things on that card) I live for points! It’s a good thing they did, a few weeks later we started hearing about Covid, we are all on our. Booster vaccine 💉 come fri oct 30. I pray it’s good enough for them to come. I really don’t like it here, Pennsylvania is home. We tend to move a lot with hubby’s job. 5 times in 43 years but I got very attached to our house and friends there. Maybe it’s not that I don’t like it, Pennsylvania was home to me.I could call my son and DIL to come over and they would just come anyway to get away from the 24/7 noise,

Your children are at such fun and interesting ages. Enjoy every minute of it! My five have all flown the nest. We only have them for a little while. It's interesting that from the time they are born it seems we train them to be good, responsible people and then suddenly they are and they fly! We are still close at least in matters of the heart although we are a bit far flung as they've made their ways in the world. My advice....build tons of deep, lasting memories and they will always want to come back to their touchstone. Blessings on your home!

Music is so important. I played the clarinet for 10ish years. I was in marching band for 4 years in high school. I even made in symphonic band. I could use a prayer. I have to see an Endodontist to see if I need a root canal or a bridge. At this point I'd prefer a bridge, a lot of the tooth fell off during lunch a week and a half ago?? I need to take better care of my teeth. When I'm depressed, my hygiene gets worse. Also I still have 2 clarinets, the buffet wood one that I begged my dad for my sophomore year (it's worth like $2000!!, and i bought a better plastic one. Also I'm in a choir that took a year off because of the situation.

One concern with Bella's dishwashing skills, not sure if you use artificial sweeteners since your son is diabetic, but sweeteners containing xylitol are toxic to dogs. Extra care never hurts.

Thank you again Chana for a lovely video. Your bread looked yummy and easy to make. I noticed you just pour it into the pans from the mixer. Is that because of the attachment you used that no kneading is needed? I love hearing your 3 year old talk. Such a sweet one he is. Reminds me of when my sins were that age. I miss those times. Hope your bagpipe lessons go good. Can’t wait to hear more ! Love the bloopers at the end. I hope shabbat went well for your family and the rest of your weekend was wonderful. Looking forward to your next video!

Hi Debbie! Because the bread is gluten free it’s not like regular bread dough that you can shape. I have to scoop it into the pans and it’s almost like a super thick cake batter.

I find this channel very enjoyable and relaxing. Is interesting learning of the traditions of your faith and some of the differences between the different orthodox groups. I enjoy your interaction with your kids. You are very patient with them when they interrupt your video. I’m glad you also allow them to help you around the house. Kudos to your husband for setting an example for his sons. He cooks, helped you set the candles, even though “is the woman’s job”. Anyway, I enjoy your videos, including the bloopers, and look forward to them. Blessings to you and your family.

As soon as you started to hold up that chanter I was so thrilled for you! I too have always wanted to play the bagpipes. But since I'm sort of tone deaf and can't read music I guess I'll have to give up that dream. I'm so glad you embrace your Scottish heritage for the children just as they're learning from their Moroccan heritage. What a beautiful way to grow up.

Guess who was one of the most popular 😌 I think that’s great your saying that helping around house is part of schooling.I think it’s sad that school systems have done away with home economics,shops etc…trade schools need to be supported as a great educational tool!
