24.15 -"in area after area, by de-contextualising network information, we're concentrating the wealth into whoever can process it the best instead of the people who originated it." That's the crux of this talk and is a fantastic point.

How would backlinks technically work? I'm kinda confused about that. Would there be some metadata for each individual piece of work that is the "origin", but I'm sure origin would be complicated cause it could be multiple people or organizations or the rights to it are scewy, and if it gets edited... It seems like it would be extremely complicated. I wonder how doable it actually is. How would you decide how much money, and where the money would flow from..

Google make database of backlinks and they build entire empire on it! Because T.B.Lee did not care for backlinks, or rather: they were complicated for implementation, he simple skip them in HTTP and Web. Google came along and make database with all links thus backlinks which are in core of their "Pagerank" system. - This is great testimony to Jaron saying "half finished product (Web) are open doors to later monetization". Next, how backlinks could be implemented in something like web at system level? If we talking just about backlinks, then they could be implemented through web servers as directory (database) of links on webpages hosted on it. Later they could be distributed among other servers and finally they would provide list of links that is pointing to your webpage. It is double without problem, Google alone do this every second with brutforce :) on system level it would be much more "enlightenment" then this today, and Google surely would not be in this position like it is today - unspoken ruler of the web. For any future global system (like IFPS), backlinks are a must have! Otherwise we will get same crap like today internet. Beside backlinks, new system should be copy&paste free! There should be only references so you can track origin of any information in global network. One of consequences of "referencing" rather then "copy&pasting" is that you could make fair system for paying $ to original author of any work. e.g. if 50cent take sample from BeeGees song and make new hit, BeeGees will get part of 50cent money. All this ideas are from 60s and 70s but they were never implemented. But it is never late :)
