Boxing is a skill, a "men's" sport; you improve over years. The old man is a coach pushing for a great win-until he sees this other man in a suit. These protégé boxers could be a symbol for his sons in real life, fighting their ways through the deadly 'rounds' that are relationships with women. He's taught them how to fight, how to love, when it involves women. But this man appears. Well-dressed. Well-versed in the ways of other love. The only person the boxer could truly be with, couldn't win a fight in love with, because it was real. It wasn't a game. "Nobody ever really wins this time around." So he fights off the man's arrival because he's afraid how his student-fighters/sons will perceive him. But he still can't hold back from seeing the man he truly needs: the love that could never make it through "a match" because it could never tested "in the ring" of real life with such controversy surrounding different kinds of relationships among some social circles.
