Enjoyed the interviews. The trail angel who gave you a ride to Ashland is a rare person who seems truly called to help others in so many ways. Very inspiring! Enjoyed the second interview as well, about hiking barefoot and bike packing. The Oregon woods are pristine and beautiful.

You are very good at expressing your thoughts as I have observed from the AT and now PCT. This discussion you had with the trail angle was very interesting thanks. Also interview of the bike packer/hiker was fantastic.

Loved the interviews. As an early childhood educator, I am a strong proponent of being barefoot outdoors as much as possible. It is so important for proprioceptive brain development.

Don't talk about homeless people as "those people". The only difference between you and "those people" is the having of a home. There is a lot of research which has tried, and failed, to find the reason for homelessness in the people who are homeless. Trying to find that they are lazy and incapable, are drug addicts, alcoholics, violent people with mental health issues. It can look like that if you ONLY look at people without a home. But then, if you look at peoole with homes you find that just as many of them are lazy, incapable, are drug addicts and alcoholics, are violent and have mental health issues. What is boils down to in the end, us that the reason fir homelessness us that there simply is not enough affordable housing available. There is this idea that homeless people do not want homes. It is simply not true. Almost all rights and freedoms in society are tied to having an address. When you lose you address you lose all of that. You become a non citizen and society is set up in such a way that you can't gain an address again no matter how hard you try. Especially in the US where "help" for homeless people most of the time restrict you from working. Finland has a model which works. Tge only one that works. Which is housing first. Give homeless people a home and an address first and THEN see if they need help with addiction or mental health. While I was studying psychology I had a job which meant I was out on the streets for hours every week. So of course I got familiar with the people living on the streets in that area. So when we did research of course I chose homelessness as my subject.

@@mikaelaolsen8835 what is the single strongest argument against the Finnish model?

None actually. There is no argument against it. It is the cheapest and most effective way to end homelessness. It is cheaper than homelessness. So what would the argument against be? "We have to waste all this money to keep all these people on the street in order to..... " What exactly? Let the police have some people nobody cares about to beat? Let the people who love feeling superior have a steady stream of people receivibg their soup? Have a good supply of kids for trafficking? To me it is funny how so many people think punishment and degradation is effective and productive. Did you know what happened in all the places where a "citizens salary" was tested? You know, just giving every citizen a bunch of money every month which is enough to live on. Contrary to populare belief people do NOT quit working. But they do become creative and start businesses on the side increasing the wealth of the whole community. It is the same when you give homeless people homes. They become productive and creative.
