@2:52 - in case you wanna hear Jared’s words to Jasmin…
@ragsAI10 ай бұрын
Hi. I'm confused. What's the rule? Ihor started loop 5 first and he chose clockwise (CW) direction so that sets the direction for the rest of the runners, right? So why did Campbell run CCW and seemed to have the right for Jasmin's direction? Thanks for anyone who'd like to enlighten me.
@MrManicola10 ай бұрын
@@ragsAI the next runner up was #5 so it was CW - Jared was ready to go, but waited so that Jasmin started #5 in CW and he started #6 in CCW
@ragsAI10 ай бұрын
@@MrManicola hmm for now I guess, whoever starts loop 5 first, the next will go the opposite direction, and then the next to that person is the same as the first one. So like, if R1, R2, R3, R4, are the runners in that order of starting loop 5, and R1 takes CW, then R1 = CW R2 = CCW R3 = CW R4 = CCW Is that correct? Thanks.

Yes, the whole point in being crowned the slowest finisher ever is an honor and fun sarcasm because usually none of the 40 even finish. It's part of the charm of the Barkley.@@martijnvdbergh1443

Unless you see video footage of every step taken, this is clearly totally dubious. The nail-biting finish, classic hollywood guurl power story. I wonder how much they paid Laz, the weirdo.

Even when all the money & sponsors are flowing into this sport, it is great to see what Jared did being 48 hours deep in this vision quest. Hope this kind of thing prevails in the sport for a long time. Jared did a baller move at the end & a huge shoutout to him for doing this.

Not only did Jared offer Jasmin the clockwise direction but he also pulled her out that seat much quicker than it looked like she was intending. Those 99 seconds could have easily have been spent in that seat!! You get what I'm saying. Literally those few minutes really REALLY mattered!!

I didn't think of this, but you're so right! This is moment is so key, considering she finished with just about 2 minutes or so to spare. Absolutely beautiful and historical recording. Not to take anything away from Jasmin's insane achievement, but that really makes you think about how else it could've gone. Gary Robbins' DNF was already so painful to witness, considering he ALREADY collected all the pages, but he didn't come in on the right trail which disqualified him, but even disregarding that issue, he "finished" 6 seconds late. It'd be heartbreaking to see if Jasmin did all the right thing, got all the pages, came in on the right trail, but actually was disqualified because of a couple of seconds or a couple minutes. I'm so glad she pulled it through and made history.

@@HarveyandKelly @suartblofeld The rule for deciding the direction of the fifth loop at the Barkley Marathons is that the first person to start the fifth loop gets to choose which direction they will run, either clockwise or counterclockwise. This choice then dictates the direction for all other runners who start the fifth loop after them. So, in the 2024 Barkley Marathons, when Ihor Verys was the first runner to begin the fifth loop and chose to run it clockwise, that set the direction for subsequent runners, including Jasmin Paris. The discussion that Jared Campbell had with Jasmin Paris about the direction she preferred was within the spirit of the race's community, but it was Very's decision that officially set the direction for the fifth loop. This is consistent with past practices at the Barkley Marathons, emphasizing the unique blend of individual challenge and communal support that characterizes the event. The specific interactions between runners like Paris and Campbell and the way these play out during the race are part of what makes Barkley Marathons distinct from other ultramarathons.

Ultimate Direction needs to pay very close attention to this. Both wearing older 3.0 Signature Vests. There's a very good reason they're not wearing 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0 and UD need to have a hard look at the garbage they've turned their vests into. It's the same reason my 6.0 stays in the garage when I do Ultras and Adventure Races and use the 3.0

It’s not about the peel as trash, it’s about the attention and coordination it takes to peel a banana while hiking after having been awake and on your feet for fifty hours. They’re just making it as easy as possible for her to eat it, because at this point it is extremely important that she eats.
