Yep we loved Jaleesa(not sure of spelling) and Sinbad on the show too. Nothing but good memories 🥰Wish they would show these people (characters) on the grown up version of lives they’re living today and what they become as going to school and finishing their education and degrees. What a real treat that would be. No switching the original people if possible. I would just love to see this happen. If you’d like to see this done type Bring back ‘A Different World’. Thanks 🙏🏽 ❤️😊

I’m 26 and I just found this show. I would always hear the name of it but I never clicked on it, thought I would be bored. I went from watching 1 episode the final episode in not even 2 full weeks. I became in love with the show and it inspired me in ways that I never got at home. From this show I’ve applied to readmitted myself in college hoping after I get my aa I can transfer to an HBCU and have just a different outlook on life. The only thing I have to say about this show , is that I wish I watched this sooner ❤️

Back then when the wedding episode was aired the viewing audience had been following Dwayne and Whitney's relationship through their ups and downs ,so the audience is emotionally invested in their relationship they knew that they still loved each other so for Dwayne to break up the wedding ,and them getting back together was a great thing.But in real life if two people really cared about each other and their relationship they would have worked out their differences way before it came down to a wedding breakup.

18:00 Kadeem hit on a good point about that new wave Gen-Z audience that view past sitcoms via a tighter hyperbole lens and are unbelievably critical. I encountered a similar batch of youthful idiots like that Twitter last year, they were bashing Saved by the Bell's Dustin Diamond/Screech character saying his behavior was toxic to Lisa, they were also bashing Jaleel White's Steve Urkel persona from Family Matters saying he was expressing toxic masculinity in his harassment to Laura Winslow. 😵

A Different World provided optics as it relates to Black people that was in absolute conflict with the racist stereotypes that white America has spent decades propagating about Black people so it had to go. Once white people got involved it all went downhill and you started seeing shows like Blackish that provided a perspective on Black people that derived from white people. Unfortunately the culture of white people in America and abroad makes them incapable of being able to be involved in cinematic or television projects surrounding Black characters without including agendas that are aligned with the anti Black racism that is at the core of white culture.

News flash everyone!! The first season of A Different World was not bad. I was in college when the show started and I still to this day prefer the episodes with Denise and Maggie. Whit..ley who I had a huge crush 😍 on was smart, sexy and respected, but when Debbie Allen came on the scene she totally changed jasmine guys character not only pairing her with Dyane but totally turning her character into everyone's adversary, moreover, she had no respect. And seasons 3,4, 5 and 6 for the most part was not that good, especially when Jada Pinkett and those other characters arrived. Give me season 1 and maybe 4 or 5 episodes of season 2 and that's it!
@lecuyerdooley10842 жыл бұрын
Yikes. Season 1 is a mess, sorry. It's clear they did not know what the hell they were doing, they had no conception of Hillman as an HBCU. They did a whole show about college students caring for eggs for a class project -- they do that in junior high, maybe high school in real life. Hillman was an HBCU, Maggie is the only white main character, but they never once explore the obvious: why is this white girl attending an HBCU and what are the benefits and challenges of her doing so? They gave Denise very little storyline of any consequence in that first season. getting a bad grade, running track, not paying her fees on time, dating. A Different World season 1 is the fat free, sugarless, meatless version of college life and especially of HBCU life. A Different World should have given us a different side of Denise Huxtable -- the kind of storylines given to her character replacements in season 2, like date rape or pregnancy scare.
@kmoore5215 Жыл бұрын
I agree. And every villain has that one inept sidekick. Hers was Millie. Lol
@BigRich1968 Жыл бұрын
@Lecuyer Dooley Although I would agree the caring for the egg 🥚 episode was very stupid, I never once questioned why Magee attended Hillman because when I attended Alabama State University, it too had a few white students and to tell you the truth, I was focused on Denise and Whitley too much to even care! Well written reply Dooley, but not accurate.
@kendallrivers1119 Жыл бұрын
You got to be kidding. That first season wasn't really bad true but it was some bland mess and needed to be revamped. The show would've never survived had they kept that format. Making Whitley and Dwayne the central characters as well as the changes in tone and cast members abd Debbie Allen being brought in saved the show and made it iconic.
