Dennis Johnson is one of the best pgs ever that doesn’t get enough credit. All world defender, great all around player. Led a team to a title in Seattle in the 70s. Walton was a superstar for a few years before the injuries ruined him. Won Portlands only championship in the 70s against Dr js loaded 76ers. He was like a mix of Duncan and jokic. Great fundamentals, decent but not crazy athlete, huge 7 ft frame, lanky, elite rim protector, arguably the second best passing bigman of all time. Won an mvp as well. Mchale was a monster on the block. Second best post player of all time. Still the only player in history to ever score 20+ ppg on over 60% from the field and also shoot 80% from the ft line. Had injuries not ruined the later half of his career, you’d definitely see his name a lot high on all time lists. But even still he’s still a top 7-10 Pf of all time Parish is the longest tenured player in nba history still. He played for a long time. He was the quintessential bigman. He wasn’t gonna wow you in the box score but he would do what he needed to do. Defense, rebounding, run the floor, score when he got his touches, decent passer. He played his role to perfection. Ainge was a phenomenal athlete. He was a Tri sport athlete, playing football basketball, and football in hs. Then played pro baseball in the MLB for 3 season in college while also playing college basketball. Then was a really good player in the NBA. Not to mention the great Larry legend.

Bird made many commercials but there was a Boston steak house that wanted him on local television. According to Bill Walton Larry finally agreed but didn't want cash. Instead all his teammates and their families ate free. He just required his teammates to tip their servers really well. So after home games they all ate together. Boston fans knew that they would see the team there and the place thrived.

This is the difference between "I" and "WE" in teamwork, this video makes me smile every single time I see it - the very first time I saw it I literally had tears in my eyes because this truly was a BEAUTIFUL GAME.

You are exactly right, the defense didn't know what to do. Double or triple team Larry, the shooter becomes the passer and each and every one of his crew was a finisher. I have seen a ton of these videos and I've noticed the defender's heads spinning trying to locate the ball. Thanks for another great one.

Watching the '86 Celtics play feels like watching Jackie Chan and his stunt team playing a game of keep-away; the moves were so efficient, the coordination was so next-level it's like they had a hive mind controlling the flow of the game.

They weren't insanely quick, but they were MASTERS at their craft. They understood angle, they understood pressure on the defense. Bird could do God Sh&t, McHale, Chief, and Walton could all finish, and knock down mid range shots, Ainge and Sichting could both shoot lights out and spaced the floor, and DJ WOULD TAKE THE SHOT A LOT BECAUSE DEFENSES TRIED GAMBLING WITH HIM, BUT HE WAS ALWAYS CLUTCH.. They knew how to put the pressure on the D and adjust off of the defensive movement. Like a kung fu master, they got an answer for whatever you tried to do.

67-15 regular season record 15-3 playoff record 50-1 home record.including playoffs (all-time NBA record) NBA Champions over Houston's Twin Towers. 4 of the 5 starters (Bird, McHale, Parish, and DJ) and the 6th man (Walton) are in the Hall of Fame. That is a helluva resume and it makes a very solid case for them being the best NBA team ever.

The Bird, McHale and Parish frontcourt is the tallest winning frontcourt in NBA history and they have a 6'4 pg and a 6'5 sg to round that tall starting lineup out. They could contend with the quickest of the small ball lineups and athletic, rim running wing teams to a point where guys were flat out giving up in the 3rd quarter of an elimination game. Games where Danny Ainge would score 20+ and the Celtics were up by 30 with half the game left to play. Games where Bird would get a quick 40 in 3 quarters and then go fishing the next morning. A slashing forward like Lebron needs a stretch big like Kevin Love shooting 3s in order for the team to play. Holding the ball for a long time, turning everyone into lob threats and shooters. Bird, on the other hand, like Curry and Klay can fuck your team up just jogging around without the ball and maybe dribbling 6 times the whole game, easy 30+. Outside shooting from anywhere off one leg with his off hand and 6'9 dominant ambidextrous inside scoring. Double teams at the 3pt line and being able to pass it in to 2 dominant interior scorers/rebounders and 2 other solid shooters when his shot is a 2 motion shot so no one knows where the ball going till the last second. All defensive hounds, a bench with 2 more good shooters one is 6'7, 6th man Bill Walton doing his thing blocking Kareem skyhook from behind. This team's iq was so much ahead of all the other teams they were gonna do whatever they wanted to do and after winning the chip, the following 2 years drafting 2 HOF level wing players. If only we could have seen 1988 Celtics with Len Bias alive

So many of Bird’s contemporaries remarked that he was EQUALLY dangerous WITHOUT the ball. His teammates mimicked that. They were everywhere and nowhere at the same time. If you were unselfish and patient, there was a shot to take with that Boston team.

The East was called the Beast going back to the Russell years. Boston was a fast break team before Bird arrived and LA moved into the fast break/up tempo game with Magic's arrival. Fast break is Celtic DNA.

They kept the defense off guard and confused so they didnt know who to guard and before they knew it the ball was in the basket and too late to guard the shot and no one in the right spot to guard it.-- nobody could touch the '86 Celtics, that year they were the best team in the world nobody could beat their passing and ball handling, along with Larrys genius on the court they were really something to see.

Hi, I like your reactions, so I subscribed In my opinion this is more like what basketball is supposed to be, today's games are focused on one guy out of a team and his athletic capabilities, and how dope the poster picture looks, but if the guy does not perform well the whole game goes down the drain, back then it was a team effort with a leader in most cases, and those plyers had their team's color in their hearts nowadays they change teams as often as they change underwear, because is all about the money now, not the sport itself. best wishes to you!!

Larry's knowledge of the game and skills influenced his team mates so they played accordingly . They read each other and their opponents well. You had to be aware of his no look passes , feeds . If a team mate was in a scoring slump he would make sure they got the ball and scoring chances

The 1986 Celtics, one of the best teams ever with one of the best players ever, the Celtics weren't fast, a little on the slow side, but all the talent, skill and the will to win made them the best in the game.

They weren't fast, but if you notice, they are passing the ball up the court instead of over dribbling up the court. This had to be Bird's greatest season. They won the championship, Bird was MVP of the finals, and season MVP.

The bulls with Jordan AND Pippen never beat the Celtics ONCE in the playoffs. NOT ONE WIN. Swept both times in 3 games. 96 Bulls were good. That's spurs team was super good too. Bill Walton was the best passing center of all time and it's not even close. And BIRD, BIRD BIRD......................GOAT
@BestBryFar
@BestBryFar 2 жыл бұрын
It's straight up unselfish team ball. We think Larry Bird, we think of his ability to make the shots. Where, in reality, he was always looking for the best shot. It's not a "Oh, I'm pretty sure I got this shot." It's "I might miss, but he won't." At the risk of sounding like an old head. Today's NBA could learn from that. As a Celtics fan. I want Smart, Tatum and Brown to pass more often. Get it to a streaking Horford or Time Lord. Dish it back out to an open Grant Williams. Stop trying to add to your stats and add another banner. I would think a banner would mean way more than having a 27.4 ppg, 7.8 assists and 9.8 rebounds season average. (Just random numbers I picked)
@Wyl7
@Wyl7 2 жыл бұрын
Yep , the only times Bird was selfish were in the 4th quarter or overtime with the game on the line. And his teammates didn’t have a problem with that because he was more clutch than anyone.
