I remember this game. I saw it live when I was 14. When Bird and HoT Rod Williams got into that scuffle I was so impressed with how Bird didn’t back down to him. Larry Legend!

Boston fans LOVED Larry Bird. He never phoned it in, always gave his best. If the fans could have willed it, he would have been able to play forever. Also sad to see great work from Reggie Lewis. Another great player whose career (and life) was cut short. Great reaction! Love how you appreciate the way the game was played back then. It was so much more entertaining than what we get now.

You can see the difference it makes having Larry play versus not having Larry play. His impact was MEASURABLE. And Kevin & Parish also. Those three were formidable. God I miss those days…

When I try to explain why I think peak Larry is the best, this is what I try to argue the most. Nobody raises the floor like Larry, carrying a Nobody college to 33-0 (yeah, he lost to Magic, but they had time to study and use their entire team to shut down Larry specifically, running a box and 1), and to prove it wasn't a fluke he took a failing Celtics from 29W-53L and 5th in the East in 1978-79 to 61W-29L and 1st in the East in 1979-80, without McHale, Parish or DJ. If Larry wasn't injured in 85 shovelling gravel it would be clear to all he was the best. If Len Bias didn't die he'd have won 2-3 more rings at least, and ignoring all of that, if he made that shot in 87 against the Lakers and won the ring he'd probably be acknowledged as the best for putting that aging, injury ridden team on his back and carrying them to the finals on his own with a severe back injury and bone spurs developing in both feet, limiting his movement. Joker is set to become 3x MVP, and he's similar to Larry in many ways, but Larry was a better shooter, from 3, mid range and at tbe charity stripe - until 88 Larry was faster and far more athletic, and even Joker's biggest strength, passing sees Larry as at least his equal, having arguably better court vision and "off-ball" passing - with passing being Joker's biggest strength. If a lesser version of Larry is winning 3x MVP in 2021/22/23, can you imagine what the real deal would do? He's about 10 wins short of having the hight win ratio of all time, currently held by Magic - this despite: 1. Magic having his super showtime team the entire 80s 2. Magic playing in a far less competitive conference for the entire 80s 3. Magic retiring in his prime due to AIDS rather than fading like a regular star. 4. Larry trying to do his duty to his team and fans from 89-93 despite fearing being permanently crippled due to how bad his injuries were 5. The team he was trying to carry was aging and injured themselves, giving our busted up old-man Larry almost no support. There are other factors that would swing the record to Larry, but the point is that we have a player that is proven to turn any team into a title contender no matter the quality before his arrival, something Michael and Lebron could never do - in fact everyone acknowledges that it wasn't Michael's fault he didn't win in the 80s, his team just wasn't good enough, but somehow nobody remembers that Larry carried a team that was just as bad to 1st in the East in his rookie season, and he didn't need Pippen to pull it off. Talking about Michael - Larry swept him twice, including 88 MVP, DPOY, Scoring champ, steals champ, dunk contest champ Michael. And even at the very end, Larry's final season when Michael was already champ with 1 or 2 rings, and Larry was in such pain he feared it would leaved him too crippled to pick up his own children, Larry still beat Michael across the regular season - ending his career never having had a single losing regular season or playoff series against the apparent GOAT.

Even in his last games bird contributed so much to the team. Remember, without bird they didn't even win 50 games with that hall of fame lineup.

An old and broken down Bird dominating the game with his passing and will to win. Played every game like it was his last. Good commentary bro.

This was a good Cleveland team. This celts team was fun to watch. John Bagley came out of retirement and played great. Reggie Lewis was unbelievable and just getting better all the time.

This is blowing my mind. I watched all this shit when I was young, and didn't know what I was watching! We got mostly Laker games, and Celtic games were only on when they played the lakers, or news clips/ESPN. I never appreciated his play this much. I've always had him in my top 10, but he's all the way to #2 now. You right about the game today. If these dudes today could hustle like this, I'd watch more. It's a lazy ass game today. Great content!

If the big guys could have stayed healthy, the Celts had some great young players, Reggie, Dee, and Gamble (and if Len Bias hadn't passed), they really had a solid, possibly great team.

This is bird at his physical worst. There’s only one person that can even compare with larry for skill, toughness , motivation and killer instict. And the other person doesn’t even exist in real life. And that’s John Wick.

I recently saw a video that said that Larry Bird at 60 years old went into a Pacer's practice and shot at least 10 3-pointers in a row and then sat down. I started posting on ESPN and NBA social media, can we get to see that somehow? Even if for charity, could we see Larry Bird in another 3-point shoot around?

Nobody I choose to lead a team to a ring over Larry, he took a nothing college to 33-0, carried Boston past the Lakers superteam with far less help, still holds the record home-game winning totals ever. Swept Micheal twice in, including MVP Mike in 88, then still beat Prime Michael in his final year in the 90s, Michael never got the better of Larry over a season, not even in the 90s. I wanna see someone pick a team that beats this: Larry with the Mullet Michael with Hair Kobe with the Afro Shaq with the Afro LeBron with receding hairline before it magically returned. It's all about the 'do.

Buhhahahahaha! Okay okay. Ima put larry at my 1, kobe as my 2(low fade kobe), early 90s MJ at the 3, 4 I want…..this one is tough…maybe Duncan, 5 2001 Shaq

@@BU_TV nice choices, but what's the theme? Obviously mine is players with hairstyles that stood out/were iconic but didn't stay. "Best players ever" doesn't count as a theme either lol, that's a bit unfair. I'd like to see a better team made out of players from an arbitrary group - if you choose players that show off terrible fashion sense before/after the game you get both LeBron and Joker, players that think they are secretly geniuses gets you LeBron and Kryie. Even players that went bald gets you LeBron, Michael, and maybe Shaq counts (his hair has receded massively after he lost a bet recently, I dunno if that's why he shaved though, so he's borderline).
