I was in Vancouver, WA right across the bridge from Portland, OR when the riots took place. Some of the rioters actually leaked into Vancouver across the bridge and started looting businesses, carjacking innocent seniors and people with disabilities, threatening people on the streets for no real reason other than their skin color, and even have had multiple domestic homicides in our apartment complex alongside one of the buildings there almost being burnt down. It took me and a group of ten friends aiding law enforcement whenever we could (or putting out fires, or defending other citizens) to inspire other people to start joining in and peacefully protesting the riots and providing aid wherever and whenever applicable. I grew up in a small town, so yes. That came naturally. And now I'm in a small town again, because old habits die hard. The true American value is accepting our differences and those in others - and loving and helping those who need it most. It's about being a community. Holding hand in hand and standing with, for, and beside eachother, shoulder to shoulder. If we have to fight to keep that, then we'll fight. And we'll win. This song hits home so hard. This song hits so home, that I feel like I'm back in the big urban yard with my schoolmates, thinking about what we're gonna do over the weekend. And it brings a tear to my eye that's filled with pride, a standing tall demeanor that's more accurately put as a contemptible aptitude for equality, and a character unmatched by any hatred. I have my grandfather's service rifle from WW2 and that gun is precious to me. Not only is it a reminder of my deceased grandfather, who was an amazing man, but an item of historic significance for the world and my family. You nailed it. I grew up on a small 150 acre farm stacking hay and moved near Ferguson, MO. Needless to say I went from one extreme to the other. Small town residents watch out for one another, wave at everyone they pass on the back roads, etc. I compare the small town feel to the family/friend dynamic of if you mess with my family you’re messing with me. As for the video footage you have to remember that at one point this was going on across the world. It wasn’t just in the US. I really enjoyed this video!
