The part about the gun is sometimes hard to understand but he is saying he got a gun from his granddad and The government keeps saying they are going to take away all our guns. He's telling the government to try that in a small town cause Small towns are not giving up their guns

It was nice to see someone actually listen to the song, thank you. When he was talking about the gun his granddad gave him he said "but one day they are gonna 'round up". He meant the government was going to take everyone's guns away. Robbing us of our god given right to defend and protect our homes and families, to hunt for our food, etc. These video clips are not just from the US, eight of the scenes come from outside the U.S., including Germany, Canada, Spain and Ukraine. For instance: the woman flipping off police officers happened in Berlin.

i haven't seen your channel prior to this and i like seeing fresh takes on songs as a gauge to see what the reactor is about. First and foremost, i see and appreciate you giving this an honest appraisal, many do not. the one thing i would ask you to rethink is the line "we take care of our own" this doesn't mean "we take care of white people" it means we take care of our neighbors, our community, our friends" understand here in my neck of the woods,(central Virginia) "a neck dont gotta be white to be red" understand also , that there is racism, there are people too stupid to understand that skin color doesn't define a person. but also understand that a person hell bent to find racism will find it, regardless if its legitimate or not. im gonna subscribe and see where this takes us. i think its a good start.

Amen! Alabama small town girl here. We are all races in my town. We grew up together. Went to school and played together as equals. And if somebody came to our town to rape, destroy and loot, they would find a big line of us, shoulder to shoulder, with guns drawn to defend our town. So "Try That In A Small Town" means this is what will happen of folks mess with us. Plain and simple. Nothing racist. Whoope Goldberg started that shit. She's as racist as they come. Lost her place, as well as the others, on their show because of it! GOOD!

Exactly. I think the line "we take care of our own" is being misinterpreted. "Our own" = My community, like minded people with similar values as me, my family, my friends, my neighbors, that lady down the road that I wave to on my way home from work every Thursday. If I saw someone.. um.. "trying that" on my way home on Thursday, I'd absolutely stop and "recommend" a thing or two.

A lot of people are also saying he's racist because he shot the video in front of the courthouse In the town that he lives in because over a 100 years ago there was a black man. Lynch and hung from that building, but to be honest, if you go back a hundred years any building that Is that old we'll have a Horrific and disgraceful history in one way or another... Also I found more than 10 movies that have been shot in front of that building but none of them were called racist. Hannah montana for example was shot at that building

That song isn’t racist it’s about how the small town mentality, that we take care of our and have that sense of community. It also cites the nonsense of violence and how it’s not tolerated in small town America. Thank for listening to the song and lyrics not the narrative of of racism and all that nonsense.

In the lines where he says 'round-up', he's speaking of the feds coming and confiscating Americans' guns, not him rounding up friends to go do some nefarious white crime. And the line 'take care of our own', he's speaking of how a small town's people have each other's back. Race has nothing to do with it. Many would be surprised to see how little someone's race has to do with anything in smaller communities.

In the lyrics where he says, " Gotta gun that my granddad gave me, they say that one day their gonna round up..." I interpret the lyrics meaning as saying the United States government is going to try and take their guns away. Jason is implying in the lyrics that they will not take them without a fight. The gun is sentimental because it belonged to his granddad and he is no longer with him.

The best way to look at this song is what would you do if strangers came into your house yelled at you, punched your friend, and set your couch on fire would you expect them to face consequences for their actions or just let them go. What if they did it to your family, your neighbor, your community it's not about racism it's about facing consequences for your choices and the need to reform the sense of community because in our time of need it's the people in your lives that will help you more than any stranger or government.

This is not a racist song. We live in a small farming town in Northern Canada, no traffic lights, just a General store, liquor store, gas station and restaurant. The Police are 30 mins away, and in winter, a lot longer. This tune just means we all look out for each other, you know everyone! No matter who they are, they are your neighbors, and you just help them if they need help. Just don't try that shit here, no matter who you are.

Aldean has good reason to be sick and tired of the violence playing out across America. He was the artist performing in Las Vegas when the largest mass shooting in American history happened. A shooter perched above the crowd in a Mandalay Bay hotel room decided he was going to play 'fish in a barrel' with the concert goers. Aldean's pregnant wife was just behind the curtains backstage when shots rang out killing 61 people. People in small towns, like ours, don't play those games. Going anywhere now is risky. Be it a mass shooting or a riot, the violence is something we should ALL be pissed enough about to speak up.

Thank you for your open mind on this video. One of the negative comments some people mention is the term "good ole boys". They paint that term as only whites are good ole boys. Most people that have a problem with that term are from a large city. If you talk to people from a small town, you find that everyone goes to the same high school and all races participate in sports and etc. What you find is that most, unfortunately not all, blend well. In fact, talk with young men that go to war together on the football field. Everyone is considered brothers. Keep up the good work.

When I heard the part about a round-up, I heard, "They're going to round up our guns, but good luck taking our arms away." As for "Round here, we take care of our own," I know, from LIVING in a small town, that "our own" means "our neighbors." We might hate the guy next door, but he's OUR guy next door, and if somebody comes from outside, and starts messing with OUR guy next door, we'll take care of him. I was honestly shocked when I started seeing the drama over it on the internet. That said, I am a white woman from a small town. I’m also a single mother, my children go to school in the same little 2A that I graduated from and you best believe if anyone, no matter their skin color, political views, gender or nationality, if they tried anything like what’s going on in these bigger liberal cities, we will protect our own! My kids have friends of all races and religions and I wholeheartedly consider their friend’s parents my own friends. I can tell you that they feel the exact same way about our little dot on the map of Oklahoma. We’re neighbors, friends, we’re FAMILY no matter what we look like. We’re American here, through and through. As for him talking about guns and “rounding up”, he’s talking about how his grandad told him that one day the GOVERNMENT is going to round up our guns, defying our second amendment right to bear arms and protect our families and homes. As I said, I am a single mother and I AM armed. The government will NOT take my protection from evil. I’ve never had to use my guns for anything other than target practice and I do not want to, but the thing is, I will… in a heartbeat. To protect my children, my loved ones, my neighbors, my family, my home…. And I’m a damn good shot. So if you’re reading this and you think you’re tough, try that in my small town, you won’t be making it back down the road except for in the ambulance that I’ll call once I know my kids are safe. I don’t even think most minorities that think this song is racist, I think it’s the liberal white women (which funnily enough, I used to be) that are stirring up the division in our country. It’s actually pretty gross.

im from a small town ... we support each other and we use guns for the most as hunting deer duck turkeys etc. that we feed our families friends and neighbors. and on the rare occasion we use them as defense from anything that may try to harm us whether it be snake bear boar or human thank you for keeping an open mind

In most small towns in the USA! Being racist is antiquated and unacceptable. A hurricane hits, a house burns down and your neighbor loses everything? The small town town does care about race! We don’t always get along, but when tragedy strikes? We bury that! Small towns have neighbors bickering, having arguments, etc. We get our neighbors through that hard time! Even if we can’t stand them personally. And once the storm passes, and our neighbors are made whole again? Then, and only then do we start arguing again about stupid stuff like property lines, fence maintenance, loud music, etc. And it does not matter if you blue, purple, or green! 💯

All he's saying if you riot and destroy property in a small town we'll back each other up and stop you and fight back! Doesn't matter what you are rioting about, color or whatever ... don't matter, don't destroy property or you'll get taken care of!

Let me tell you about a small town...and I ain't talking about a suburb 20min outside a big city. I'm talking about the fly overs. We do take care of our own. We cherish and depend on hunting, but they want to take our guns like we the problem. You missed that part but still caught much of everyone else. The blonde flipping off the police, the Indian looking gal in the cops face, the white hand lighting the molotov cocktail and lighting the flag on fire,...there's nothing racist. And you nailed it so well. It's racist if that's all you see. I wish I could give you 2 thumbs up! Bravo 👏

Bro, "Round Up" was referring to "Them" Trying to Confiscate our Guns.

Couple of things. The verse about his GF's gun. He say's one day they say they're going to round up. He's referring to the Govt. coming to confiscate gun's. Next when he say's we take care of our own he means his neighbors, his community. I'm from a small town. We have all races here. We may have different cultures based on our ancestry, but we share the small town culture where morals matter. Someone brings trouble into our small town and we all stand together. White, Black, Brown, doesn't matter. What matters is what's in your heart and mind. If you come here to disrupt our way of life....well I suggest you don't.

When he says "one day they are gonna round them all up", he means the government is going to try to take our weapons. That's what he's referring to.

Take care of our own means the entire towns takes care of each other regardless of race, color, background, etc. We see family in small towns in cities you aren't as close with your neighbors. If city folk were to try and bring the violence to a small town that small town would stand as one and defend themselves and their town and businesses and homes.

I grew up in a 5 generation small town. Everyone knows everyone knows who your grandpas was , so if someone hurt one of us, yea you don’t know what you’re doing. True im from a small town in Mississippi. A white drunk plowed over a sweet colored lady. That had been Moma to everyone. White men dragged that dude out of the car and before it was over,he was begging for someone to call the cops.
