I remember back in the 60's I had moved out of Chicago to a small town 65 miles south. Riots, burning, looting, people being attacked on the street in some major cities. Word got around that a large group was headed our way to do the same. There were 3 small towns in about a 5 mile radius, roughly, and there were only two major roads into the first town from where this mob was coming. I was a kid, 14, but I went to one of the roads and lined up on both sides were farmers, construction workers, factory workers, shops, barbers, etcetera, lined up on both sides of the road , cars , vans, and trucks positioned in a way that provided cover, and every man I seen was armed to the teeth, and there was White, Black, Hispanic, Jewish, some were war veterans and they were saying "Not in our town !" Guess word got out because the mob turned around and went back the way they came. People in small towns will back each other up.

I am glad your small town defends you but I work in a small town and because I was not born and bred in that small town I am disliked and looked on like I have the plague because I am partially disabled. I never had that problem in larger cities. Also the small towns around where I live are plagued with drug addicts and meth labs. The people are not very friendly at all. This my first time hearing this song and been meaning to listen to it and watch the video as well. What a better way than too watch it coming from your reaction. Being born and raised in Oroville I definitely stand by this one, and would love to see someone do anything wrong in front of me. Hell just a few years back I was at Valero down by Riverbend and seen a transient try to walk out without paying for an item. I followed him out and grabbed him up by the back of his shirt and shoved him back in the store. I paid for his item but had the store clerk make him sweep and mop the floors as payback as well. I think most people have no idea why some are screaming racism about this song/video. As a retired African American police officer in the big city but originally from the a small town in the great state of Mississippi, I can tell you that I absolutely love this song and agree with it 100%. If you're looking for racism in the words or the video you're not going to find it. What the uproar is about is Henry Coate, an 18 year old black kid that was lynched from the second floor of the courthouse in the background behind Jason. Henry Coate was dragged behind a car and lynched there back in 1927 I believe because a white girl said that a black guy tore her blouse and ran away. While she could not and did not ID Mr. Coate, the mob burst him from his jail cell and murdered him anyway. That is why people are angry that Jason would film his video in front of that place

I love this song. I'm from a one stoplight mountain town of 2700 people. Nothing in the city that happened would work in my hometown and I'm proud to say it. A neighbouring town nearly 10 times our size almost had a riot if not for people from our town came over with our open carry and just stood on the sidewalks to keep looters out. It was just a small protest and nothing happened. None of that shit worked in our small town!
