I loved every second of it! The critics are seriously being ridiculously harsh on this film. We wanted Matt Damon back as Bourne, with all the stuff we love from the Bourne Franchise, and that's exactly what we got! And now we're complaining of course! And why are there some complaints about the badass car chase?? That's a lot of people's favorite scene, including mine! :)

Agree. It's a good film. Not on the level of the original trilogy in my opinion. Some clear flaws, but it's entertaining and it was great to see Bourne back. But I do think the Vegas scene was out of place. The SWAT vehicle was a little much and as they said felt more like Fast & Furious than Borune. But the fighting is just as good, and Bourne is still badass. I think some people missed the hints dropped throughout that Borune is not as sharp as he was in the original trilogy. The film doesn't hide the fact the character has aged, which is why he makes more mistakes than he usual does. Plus the CIA has better tech than ever that I doubt he anticipated. A good Borune film. I feel some people are shitting on it and calling it trash, just because Rotten Tomatoes is telling them to. Went into it with no expectation and enjoyed myself.

What made Bourne so special was how different it was. Car chases in minis; cerebral action hero (remember Damon was Will Hunting not long before) not to mention scary guys coming out of nowhere wanting to kill him for no apparent reason. This installment is nothing new. Shaky cam was new and interesting circa 2005 - now it's mandatory on television shows. The father subplot seemed tacked on. Vincent Cassel's asset was one dimensional and nothing compared to Clive Owen's human turn in the original. The action scenes were pumped up but nothing we've not seen before. There was nothing new on offer here and for Bourne which made his name on offering something we hadn't seen before that's the only crime here.

Zero expectations with this film, as we all know going back to a franchise just doesn't work, it's a money maker.. It won't take away though how bloody brilliant each of the original Bourne's are. I'm a Brit but Bourne over Bond every day for me. Identity is a true classic of the action genre.

*Spoilers* One thread they didn't talk about was the CIA trying to bring Bourne back in. What do people think about that part of the film? Seems like they were pushing the story in a new direction but it wasn't fleshed out enough. Also seemed to be left open if I interpreted the end correctly. Would Bourne ever really go back to work for the CIA? Would that fly too much in the face of all he's done in the movies so far?

The thing I hate about these movies is there is always a new CIA head honcho that has a shit ton to do with Bourne's past, yet they are never mentioned in previous movies. Where are these guys???

MobiusCoin Perhaps it's because I'm not a huge Bourne fan, but I'm watching Jason Bourne now and I really, really like it. I've always enjoyed the Bourne films, I just never thought they were incredible, aside from maybe Ultimatum, that one was very good. So far, I think this one is great.

I really liked the first three but honestly, I turned to my wife, next to me in the cinema playing pokemon during the "climactic" chase scene at the end, and offered to just leave. It was pathetic. And for god sake, will someone get through to Hollywood that shakey camera sucks

Greengrass is best when he makes factually based films not fiction. Movies like Bloody Sunday, United 93 etc. That's where his documentary style of film-making shines.

+No Where Man - I was going to say that, but you beat me to it. Also, people should get the United 93 DVD. The documentary of the actors meeting with the families of the person they were going to portray is incredibly moving. I cried. And, Bloody Sunday was pretty even handed & it had a great documentary feel to it.

I find it bizarre that Bourne is able to knockout huge tough experienced pit fighters with one to three punches but he struggles to defeat fellow assassins. I understand that Bourne and the assassins are trained to be resilient, but it still seems inconsistent to me. It's like a power lifter that can bench 400 lbs as part of his daily warm up routine, yet he struggles whenever he has to move loveseat or couch. :-(

The movie may same dated because the first book was written in 1980 by Robert Ludlum. It was written as a trilogy for the Bourne character, but I seem to remember him popping up from time to time in other Ludlum novels. I've never been tempted to see any of the movies because of this. I can't see the character as sustainable-at least for me. When Ludlum died in 2001 the franchise was continued in 2004 by Eric Van Lustbader, who was born in 1946. Now, old people invented the internet, and some of them hold their own fairly well. Even under the best circumstances there's going to be a lag between writing, publication, and conversion to cinema. In the case of Bourne movies, I imagine you have to be able to suspend belief at various philosophical and technical points and hope that it's shot well. I very much enjoy your reviews. I am new to them, but your critiques are well-rounded.

It's the weakest of the Matt Damon films, but it's still good. Action is still great if you like Greengrass' style. Vikander is okay too. I disagree about her motives not being clear. At the beginning of the film it's very apparent she's willing to do whatever it takes to get promoted and have a higher status. It's why she wanted Tommy Lee Jones' character gone. The chase scene in Greece is just spectacular, one of the franchises best I think. The Vegas scene I agree, doesn't fit in the Borune franchise. Way too over the top. Borune doesn't drive nice cars, and the SWAT vehicle driving through traffic was a bit silly. Redeemed itself with the fistfight at the end. I would've liked to see a bit more risks taken in this film, but as the two said, it's a fine film. It's entertaining, just not on the level of the original trilogy, but it's still a good time. A solid 8/10 for me.

I'm nomrally a Bourne fanatic(not the JeremyRenner Joke) but this one not only retread stuff but tried too hard to cram in too many threads so you lost track of who was doing what to whom and backstabbing and playing both sides. Bourne movies are generally heavy place you on BOURNE'S SIDE first and then enjoy the ride as he figures each thread knots. This had a tangle, not clear set up REASON for him meeting in Athens that you could deeply care about each thread Bourne was unraveling or had any stake in. Vikander is just eye candy poor actress to get millennial adults and teens into the movie series, but she's dead weight uninspiring when the previous female leads were perfect. Oh they're TOO OLD while Damon is ageless.

No one ever talks about the 1988 Bourne TV movie sspecial with Richard Chamberlain as Bourne. It was good for that era. It's uploaded in segments on KZbin search it using his name & bourne. Also the movie people were planning on a series of movies so spaced what Bourne learns all at once on the TV movie & in the book into each movie's the reason for Bourne's continuous journey in finding his memories. $$

The way they treated Julia Stiles character was not okay. No excuse. Film would've been spectacular if they worked her in it more instead of just using her to advance the plot. Nikki is a great character in the franchise. Hollywood still has an ageism problem, and Stiles is only 35 and looked great...

I'm still gonna watch it just because my entire family wants to, but I'm lowering expectations. It's funny because I wasn't a fan of the second one. I still liked it, but the first and third were far superior imo. I'm watching Legacy tonight, but I hear that one is the worst behind this movie. Is Jason Bourne boring or is it just mediocre because it's not original? I hate movies that are boring or drag

First of all: I hate car chase scenes. Especially the ones that are overly long. Second of all: this movie is the worst out of the Damon franchise. Third of all: this had very much potential given there were some great actors in this, but they weren't utilized properly, in my opinion. And here's why: Matt Damon is starting to look old and in this movie he is nothing but a brain dead guy who can't cope with his past and is into fist fights now. Weird Julia Stiles is underutilized in general, so it was good to see her back and I'm extremely disappointed with what they did to her character. It's a déjà vu to say the least. Vincent Cassel - his character is a total nutjob. He has zero wit unlike all the other assets in previous Bourne movies. He just shoots shoots shoots... Nothing else. Tommy Lee Jones: man, does this guy ever change his facial expression? I don't think so. He's too old for the role and I don't buy it. Alicia Vikander: she has an Oscar and... Yeah and what? She doesn't fit this role. She's too young and she doesn't live up to Joan Allen in any way. I don't buy it either.

Why? Freedom of speech. If you check on Metascore, IMDb or Rotten tomatoes, as well as critics, this movie is rated the worst of the series. And that's my opinion as well. I've never watched Twilight, to be honest. I'm too old for that. Your comment is pretty witless, by the way. Calling people out for not liking a movie YOU like is extremely mature.

This is ANOTHER Movie (I will not call it a Film) that I will wait until I can see it for 'Free' either on NetFlix, Amazon Prime, or Cable. Plus, I am not in a hurry to see it. Personally I believe Matt Damon is OVER Exposed in 'The Movies' over that last few years. He was in 'Interstellar' (which is one of my favorite Films) and then right away he is back in 'The Martian'. That to me was way too much Matt Damon.

I wish they would bring back the original director from The Bourne Identity. That was the best film. When did everyone just decide that Bourne is Paul Greengrass' baby? Enough of Greengrass.
