I'm nearly 50 and kind of have felt this age since I was 26. Color me grateful to see such genius songwriting in my lifetime and to see him in concert in a few months. Mark my words folks, young people in 50 years are going to be covering isbell songs like young people have been covering Dylan and Leonard Cohen forever and will be until we're all dust. This is the best art can get. Thank your lucky stars to be alive right now to see it. Bless this young man for all he does and is.

Dear God, he's so good at everything. The songwriting is both powerful and meticulous, his vocals heartfelt and emotional but still always spot-on, and he's a great guitar player, but knows how to keep it simple when the song calls for it. @MikeDawson278 жыл бұрын
I agree on the thought that we've lost too many people. I love that song and it makes me angry that during every pause, a handfull of people just can't let the silence hang there, they seem compelled to yell and whoop it up. A song with that much emotion, I just wish folks could just live in that moment.
@codyhousleygolf8 жыл бұрын
They cheer because he got clean. I've heard in an interview or two that he loves when they cheer him on that line. I thought the crowd sounded very respectful.
@MikeDawson278 жыл бұрын
Cody Housley I have no problem with them cheering that line. If you watch it again, they cheer on every single line when he pauses no matter what the content. That's what bugs me. He sings a line "to use me for good" and then it's instrumental for a few bars and 3 or 4 people have to whoop or holler every single time. It's an intensely personal song and every time he pauses doesn't need an idiot yelling "whooooooo!" Every damn time.

"Mama's and grandmothers love you, because that's all they know how to do." Wow, Jason and the 400 Unit! DRESS BLUES is the best song I have heard, that reminds all of us about the sacrifices of military families and the price paid for American freedom. When we beat the drums of conflict for someone's Hollywood war, dying too young, is the real price many of our young soldiers and their families face. My daughter enrolled in the army, just out of college. I listened to American Soldier, on her military graduation day and said a prayer for the smiling young men, some of them, coming back to their mothers already, in Dress Blues, somewhere. So many of us forget too, the American Armed Forces, include patriots of all races and color. Great concert guys, but DRESS BLUES makes me sad. Blessings Gold Star families. Thanks for the service of the veterans, active men and women we love and the sacrifices of those we lost. The children we raised to make a difference in this world. I pray for mine and yours.

I recently moved to Denver from Alabama. I get to tell everyone I meet about all the musical history that was formed in Muscle Shoals, AL. Of all the legends that have recorded music there, it's tough to pick a favorite. I've been to music festivals all over. I've probably been to over 100 shows throughout the country. However, getting to see Isbell perform at Red Rocks was, hands down, the best show I've ever been to. We all have our favorites, but I honestly can't think of a niche group that Jason's music wouldn't appeal to. No matter how much beer had been drank that night, you could hear a pin drop when Jason stepped up to the mic. Jason and Jimbo, if you ever come back to Red Rocks, you can bet for sure that I'll be back. I'd recommend to everyone who gets a chance to go see the show.

I absolutely love this group. Songs mean something and people can have a very personal connection to the words. Rarely are such great lyrics combined with such great music

Saw him for the second time at Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia last March. He was my last set after five days of great music. Took me to a very happy place and headed home on a high. I could listen to these songs every day and never get sick of them. As someone else said, he is the real deal. Great songwriter, top band.

Amazing players all, and Jimbo Hart is just blistering on that bass guitar. I drum a little but am really a frustrated bassist, and Mr. Hart is just sick! He and Mr. Gamble are an amazing rhythm section.

I was at this concert, off to the left side of the stage towards the front, we had no idea it was being recorded. Nice bonus to see a great concert over again. The crowd was impressive- everyone singing along, happy, the way it should be. Shovels and Rope opening were incredible.

Brilliant end to end performance. At to 1:07:00 mark, Cover Me Up, is tremendous. The deeply personal introduction. The backstory of his addiction. The intense power in his voice. And, oh that look she gives him of true love. A great artist and a great testament to recovery in that song.

I've been listening to Isbell's solo stuff since he left DBT. It's ironic to me how good he is and how much I can't get enough of his music. You see, I was a fan of the Drive-By Truckers in the very early 2000's. At the time, in my circle of friends, we had a running joke that DBT put on the worst live shows of all time. In hindsight that wasn't very fair to say. However, I still saw them play a half a dozen times. At the shows I used to feel like Isbell held the band back, and he was just this weird chubby kid that seemed to like to wear tie dye shirts. I felt like Cooley and Hood were way better than Isbell. 16 years later and Isbell has passed up the rest of DBT by leaps and bounds. I saw him play in Lafayette in December of 2016 and was so blown away. It was one of the best shows I've ever attended. The other part of all this is that I last saw DBT play in 2013, and they had become a much better live band. I guess the moral to the story is don't be an asshole like me, and pay attention to musicians and their progression in their craft. They may just surprise you.

I remember seeing DBTs in the early 2000s and thinking about Mr. Isbell, 'theres something there, but he hasn't found it yet.' I was a big Cooley fan and I still am, but Isbell is a monster of an artist. He has definitely 'found it'!
@uns33n3 жыл бұрын
@@charlesw.4576 he was hammered and on drugs for much of that time. It's what helped give him the perspective that he has but it may probably made him not the best performer or band mate or husband at the time (he was married to the bassist I believe)

I saw the Drive By Truckers a few times when Isbell was in the band and thought they were great although sloppy at times. Always loved Jason's songwriting contributions. I've loved all of his solo stuff and see him every year at Red Rocks when he comes through Colorado. Brilliant songwriter and also a blazin' guitar player. If you want to check out the DBT DVD of the Dirty South Tour, Live at the 40 Watt Club, in 2004 you may revise your opinion of them as a live band. They rocked and the songs by Colley, Patterson Hood and Isbell were all incredibly strong. It might get just as many views as this!

This is so good. Love the cheer Jason gets in cover me up when he sings the line 'but I sobered up, I swore off that stuff forever this time'. Ya can tell Jason appreciated the applause. Gave me goosebumps. He's a class act.
