I’m not really into axes, but I am into metallurgy and wood working, and I had the same thoughts as you when you first brought up the website and the info on the axe. This is an axe that should cost like $30

The people buying them aren't going to use them so a lot of the use issues are kind of pointless to discuss, they'll be hung on a wall where the buyer can say "oh yeah, khal drogo made the axe-haha!" because having a useless object is the only way people spending $400 on a 'display' axe is can pretend to have a personality.

People would be way better off to find an old axe head, clean it up & haft it themselves so they can choose a good handle etc. Atleast thats my 2 cents.

I agree with all your points on the axe being garbage for the price, but I completely disagree on putting a heavy head on a short handle, all my favourite axes are mounted on 24-26” handles, 2 3/4, 4lb etc it feels much more comfortable and allows me much more accuracy in my strikes

The 420 is not as likely to chip as it is to roll, especially when it's not super hard. A lot depends how they harden it. 4lbs plus a bad grain in the handle, nice.

ooof that thing looks abysmal... i'm not an axe enthusiast or anything but just looking at it tells me that this axe wouldn't have survived the about 6 cubic meters of wood i split this fall.. no clue what kind of steel my 50 year old heirloom axe head from my late father is, but i can guarantee that it isn't 420 stainless steel and that it doesn't weigh 4 pounds.. and i'd bet that it cost probably about a third of this one

While I completely agree that the axe is bizarre you are looking at it completely wrong in my opinion, Jason Mamoa is an axe guy yes but he is more interested in throwing them at stuff it seems. I honestly don’t think this axe is for anything other than that, WATL axes are made from 1045 carbon but I wouldn’t take it to go make sure I have a couple chords ready for winter. Just like I wouldn’t take my Kelly wood slasher or my Helko wood splitter to go throw at targets. Yes I think it’s cheap and I can guarantee you that the steel will not hold up but I also think it isn’t marked at you if 1.) you don’t find Jason Mamoa hot 2.) you’re not a hipster 3.) you aren’t into axe throwing.

I have a Fiskars general duty heavy hatchet and the head of the thing is stainless. Now IDK what they could've done except leave it a bit soft but those axes are tough as hell. I wouldn't give them $20 for this thing, I don't care if the ass end looks like HD Knucklehead and has Aquamans sea snake char on it or not. I've got some inexpensive Cold Steel yard and bush tools. Horrid handles that I modified but they're 25 years old, still work fine. These kind of toys are for LARPers to spend a shizton of cash on, hoping to "identify" with Mamoas image at some Renfair expo and get the opportunity to breed. Thats the "juice/squeeze/milk" we are talking about here, and they all know it😂
