Yeah but the effects of the past is still affecting the present. Of course you won't feel it because you're white, but from an indigenous point of view, it is different. Hawaiians cannot afford to live ON THEIR OWN HOME LAND. Their culture was fucked with and their country was taken over by greedy white businessmen. And those white businessmen took over, took over the lands, and their offsprings/later generations still live on those lands and are rich as fuck.
