He problem is that they would not have believed him if he told them what he Devlin said because it was not the name of the accomplice. They would have assumed he was lying. If he talked to them, he could he angered them and they might very well have used the threat of prosecution to try to blackmail him into revealing information that he did not have. Anyone who is questioned by the police should be very careful. Their first , second and final instinct is that you’re lying. That is heir job.
