The 07 World cup, when England were pasted by SA in the pool games, he was the one player who kept fighting and really battled the Boks to the point of injury. I thought when he went off that England literally had no hope. Him and Wilkinson were real leaders in that team during one of the worst eras for England and brought England from the brink to a hard fought final

He makes my all time XV. I'll have him on the bench to cover fullback and wing. My starting FB is Serge Blanco. My starting wings are Bryan Habana and (perhaps controversially) Doug Howlett.
@charlesevans27012 жыл бұрын
Erm no, he was better than either, he created his own chances.
@interestedbystander1962 жыл бұрын
@@charlesevans2701 Well, we disagree on that. Habana has both the all time tier 1 international try scoring record, and the RWC try scoring record. This while playing for a team not really set up for back play. As for Howlett, he was a better finisher than both Robinson and Jonah. Far more tries too. Record try scorer for the ABs. No, I'm happy with my picks. If not Robinson on the bench to cover back three, then I'd have the amazing Christian Cullen in that bench spot. It's a toss up between Robinson and Cullen.
@charlesevans27012 жыл бұрын
@@interestedbystander196 Jason could score from a standing start from inside his own half, as in this video, and he did it time and time again. Those mentioned didn't, they were all standard Union wingers of the highest quality.
@papalegba6796 Жыл бұрын
No Robinson is a starter for sure anywhere in the back line. When he was up & coming as a kid in Leeds everybody knew about him, superstar in the making, then Wigan poached him. Remember his best years were in league, he went to union late on & still tore it up.
@papalegba6796 Жыл бұрын
@@charlesevans2701 Can't describe how good he was. I played for Leeds rugby league juniors, not good enough to go pro but kept in touch with those who were & they all raved about this kid when he turned up for trials, said he was like Ellery Hanley but with better hands. I checked him out playing for Hunslet & he was something else, had everything. Leeds lost him through arrogance, they wanted him to come train with them same day as Hunslet had an important game so he said no & Leeds blanked him. Wigan swooped in & the rest is history. Leeds did similar with Hanley, he got sent to borstal & Leeds blanked him, but Wigan met him at the gates with a limousine when he got out & offered him a contract if he stayed straight. Again the rest is history. Leeds were terrible for messing up talent, especially from the West Indian community, they had a guy called Norman Francis who was like a pocket Mal Meninga, I played with him from when he was a kid, he was better than Martin Offiah for sure, just as fast but with a better side-step & hand-off, so hard to tackle. They ruined him too by ignoring his injuries & treating him like a donkey.
