Greek truck! I was 12 years old in 1987 and somehow I got my hands on a used Midnight Pumpkin. The body was white with the purple flames. I drove it for several months and really enjoyed the fact that when I broke parts, which was usually the front suspension arms from jumping it, my mom could take me to the hobby shop to get replacements and I could repair it myself! All of the RC cars that I'd had before that were just disposable toys, I really enjoyed fixing and maintaining my Midnight Pumpkin! I remember for Christmas that year my mom bought me a Quarterflash Quickshot "stock motor" and after I installed it it sounded like something was slipping really bad, it turns out the wheels were spinning inside of the tires. My brother who is 11 years older has a 1973 Plymouth Barracuda which in 1987 was a street/strip car and the back wheels had screws going through the bead of the wheels into the bead of the tires. So I did the same thing, found some tiny little self taping screws and put 4 on each side of the back wheels/tires. After I did that it was MUCH FASTER! I think the stock 540 motor that it came with may have been weak because it wouldn't do wheelies until I installed that new motor. Anyways, it was such a fun truck but the biggest appeal to me was just being able to maintain and repair it myself! It definitely got me hooked on the hobby, I have 6 RC vehicles right now and plans to build more. LOL! Thanks for sharing the great video!

The lunchbox was my first real RC car. I paid for it and built it myself. I still have it and it still works today.

i cant tell ya how many laps i was docked by the track official from 87 to 89 at my local rc track taking out those associated rc10 buggys with my lunchbox. i invented the pit box time out mid summer 88. i gave all the rc10 owners a reason to buy titanium tierods. in 88 i put four tamiya new black plastic bumpers on my lunchbox. that lunchbox would launch off the front of those buggys. those were the days.

I sure miss my Pumpkin, it was alwas hard after giving it so much love and care painting it....once it fell over the scratches always were there....on the body and in my soul.

4:15 That flip made me cringe. I have the chrome edition Midnight Pumpkin and she's a total shelf queen, I'm too scared to scratch that body. I have my brushless Stampede for when I want to thrash a monster truck around.

When i was 9 or 10 i got this as my first kit but in the chrome version. Me and my dad built it up and built a custom wheelie bar, and had no problems building the kit. I love this rc and would buy another one.

Yeah your right Jason. The Midnight Pumpkin is an AWESOME kit I love it too. And just the simplicity of Tamiya RC cars is very special also. It's like returning to the 1980's to a better time and place which was not bad like the world is now. It was better. And who cars if Vintage Tamiya RC cars didn't go 40 or 50 mph. I don't care about that. It's all about fun and in my opinion I reckon Tamiya RC cars went fast enough while still being fun and without being uncontrollable. They still went fast enough to break if I ever crashed and that is fast enough. Another special point is Tamiya RC cars were actually easy enough for most young kids say from about 13-14 years old to actually build ourselves work on too. That's what makes Tamiya RC cars so special in my opinion. Nowadays if I want a car to get to 80 mph ( 128 kilometres per hour) I can buy it here in Australia for around $1400.00 AUD but then they're not fun and just too fast, too serious and not for the young kid in all of us. Cars like the Traxxas X01 get to 100 mph(160 kilometres per hour ) . That ain't fun it's just damn ridiculous. And I also think ready to run cars seem to be soulless and I don't have much of a bond to them because it came pre-built out of a box. That's why I love Tamiya RC cars. Love your channel alarm Jason . Keep the great videos coming. I'm subscribed 🥰👍👌

I got a midnight pumpkin when I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8. I loved it , my sister had a quad and unfortunately the two collided and it got a broken suspension , couldn’t get it fixed. I was so sad , I can’t believe this is one of your favourite trucks. It was bought in my hometown of Dungannon, Northern Ireland. The shop was called Gibsons Electricals, still there.

This was my first hobby grade R/C car and still one of my favorites! I wanted a Lunchbox, but my hobby shop was sold out. They showed me the Midnight Pumpkin, explaining it was the same chassis, so I bought it. My best friend liked mine so much that he bought one. We both modded them out extensively over the years and ran the heck out of them at parks and construction sites. They are durable and extremely fun! I still have mine fully hopped-up with parts made by manufacturers that don't even exist anymore. I'd like to buy a new one and do a modern "Project Pumpkin", going li-po and brushless. My original was powered by a Trinity Triad 49,500 rpm motor, Novak M5 speed control, and Trinity "Pushed" matched SCR packs.
