You're a great problem solver, Jason! Shade cloth will absolutely help with the north garden and trenching the tubing should keep it from expanding. How are the girls and the animals doing? Your backyard garden tour is a success and so is the editing. Janey's blessed to have you covering for her...and being her partner in life. Cya!

We all bring something different to the garden and it's always nice to get a different perspective on it. Think how boring it would be if we all cookie-cuttered each other. I can't even imagine the heat you are getting but happy to know you and Janey are taking it seriously and not venturing out to work in it. Back garden looks super - love the pops of chartreuse greens and bright yellow.

Jason, for the irrigation that might be expanding because of the heat. Before you dig trenches, how about temporarily covering the joints with 2-3 layers of wet cardboard? Only to confirm if is in fact the heat. Another idea is to place a cooling coil inside your water tank. Been working for me perfectly.

The brunnera look like they are getting attacked by spiders or spidermites. Treat for that for ALL of them and get the cobwebs up. If you get that shade cloth up right away, that should help everybody. Might have to water twice a day for a week until they recover. :) Maybe move all those plants over to the house-side?? Keep feeding everything a light soluble fertilizer once a week or so. Hopefully that will help, too. The hydrangeas could use a pruning and you can take them inside! If they feel papery, cut them into a little bit of water in a vase and let the vase dry out. That's how you dry hydrangeas. They should do lovely there in Davis. Boy do I miss California growing! (Much easier with the lower humidity.) :) Thanks for the garden tour!!!

Jason, I love you’re not afraid ( or at least willing) to pick up the camera and film too. You do a great job! I know you mentioned putting up a sail or shade cloth, but what about a small arbor like the ones you all had at the other house. I think they had honeysuckle on them. I know that route is a bit more expensive, I’m just not sure you all would really be happy with the look of shade cloth. Just good for thought. Love you all, keep up the great work!

Jason, check the shade yard 7:02 through the sunny time and see if the windows are reflecting a sunspot onto the area where the brunnera died. Just a thought. If not a strange sun pattern check for bug/pests.

Hi Jason! My husband got a “sun shade sail” several years ago. We live on Cape Cod in MA and it is a game changer in the hot sun! There are several shade levels; we have a 92% which still allows some sun through so the area where we have lunch is still bright but it offers a lot of reprieve! These also come is different sizes and shapes! We have since added 2 small triangular ones to our first bigger rectangular! Like you we have a front porch that we use but it is on the street side and a lot more public whereas our super sunny area is more private and we enjoy pool time and lounging in that area!

Hello Jason, Tammy here a friend from Canada I live about three hours out of Vancouver British Columbia. It was so wonderful to see your garden struggling just as mine is I was starting to wonder if I was doing something wrong but we get quite the hot temperatures as well in my little town of Merritt so it’s reassuring to know that it’s not my gardening ha ha it’s the weather, so thank you for letting us see your garden not being so perfect it really helps.

Hi Jason! Shade cloth is such a great idea but maybe consider something more natural like an ornamental tree that only grows 10 feet or less. That might assist with some shading for your more delicate plants.

You've come a long way with your knowledge of plants Jason! You've gone from "here is a cute little purple plant," or "here is a silver plant," to not just the type of plant, but its individual name, and why it is doing, or not doing well. I think we are seeing "survival of the fittest" in our gardens during this heat wave. Thank you for showing us the real deal. Well done!

Hi Jason! Loved the tour of your backyard (especially the dahlias!) and nice job editing the video! Well done you two for maintaining your gardens in a prolonged heat wave. I really like the idea of pea gravel for the Vego bed area. While Janey is away, you should pick up a plant you like, put it in the garden and see how long it takes for Janey to notice! 😜🇨🇦

Jason, great job! You just keep getting more natural at hosting the videos 😊 I've been gardening in Southern California for well over 50 years. After millions of mistakes, I have found nature will always win. That said, wouldn't it be easier to put sun loving plants on the sunnier side of the shade garden? I used to put up shade cloth, umbrellas, etc. Anything to trick the sun, but in the end the sun always wins. Also don't know how windy it is in your part of our state, but shade cloth in the wind becomes a great big sail. It takes a very strong footing to stay in place. Wishing you great success. Love your channel ❤

Check your pressure coming from your valves. Too much pressure on drip lines can pop them off. Most drip products can handle around 30-40 psi. If that’s the case, installing a pressure reducer rated to 30-40 psi on the valves will help, although if you have a lot of emitters on that line, it may affect how much water is coming out especially toward the end of that line. So try a higher psi reducer first. Also, would not recommend burying drip line in dirt. Cover it with mulch, but don’t put it underground because it’s a soft pipe and it can get kinked or punctured by rocks and roots in the soil. *landscaping construction and irrigation expert opinion*
