Jason, thought it was time that I added my voice of thanks to a new fellow Michigan resident who always tries to put forth a positive view of the hobby and promoting the hobby whether it be MTH, Lionel, Atlas, or whatever. There is certainly no way for the O-gauge segment of the train hobby to expand if a new person encounters people making videos of how bad this item is and how they should just go to HO because then they will spend less money on disappointment. I think that all of us can find disappointment in everything or we can make the best choices available and go forward. I thoroughly enjoy your videos on how you try to educate and share your knowledge of the love of all aspects of the hobby!!! Keep going, your new layout looks like it will turn out fantastic!

Jason, once again you hit it out of the park on the video. The explanation is supurb. You should have been a teacher hahaha. By taking the "brains" and heart out of the old layout, you are a surgeon doing a transplant from an older living model to a new and exciting one. Regarding the access to the layout, hey, at your age, you have at least 30 yrs of being able to crawl around the top. ENJOY. You are an inspiration, even to us older guys. Looking forewward to all your future videos.

GREAT VIDEO ... loving the progress ... you will definitely be needing a mid-span support for the table top ... a minimum equal to the sketch I shared with the 2x6 beam and supports at 10' O.C. ... those 2x4's spanning 12-13 feet will NOT support the layout with YOU on top ... will not fail but severely deflect ... I have done the technical calculations and they do NOT lie ... trust ME on this ... can't wait till the next video ... BTW, I am already at the point that I can't crawl under or on top of my layout ... finishing up my 75th year ... but still engrossed in the hobby ... now have to have help for any layout modifications ... thank goodness my benchwork has been completed ...

It looks great . With the siding on the lower level instead of a single track have you thought about doing a double track siding . And as for feeder wires how far apart are they ? I model in HO and a general rule of thumb is a feeder wire about every 3 ‘ . Love the bloopers

I can not wait to see the layout start taking shape. I love the idea of having a conventional loop, definitely something I will incorporate on future layouts. My one question is, how far apart are your feeder wires?
@JDStucks
@JDStucks 3 жыл бұрын
I go for 8-10 ft between feeders. But people will argue you can go longer or should go shorter.
@1jefreys
@1jefreys 3 жыл бұрын
I didn’t see a “clean out” access point on that pipe...if a Plumber is ever needed, Hope they are a Model Railroader😁 What gauge wire is your feeders? Do you run parallel feeds? Also, for the $, you can buy Electric Panel Ground Buss Bars, at your local home center, and have quadruple the capacity than those MTH terminal blocks. And who puts a 👎 on a model railroad video?????? Must have had some serious life altering issues in their past- A suggestion/question...based on my limited experience...I say limited because I’ve never gotten any of my layouts past track...I’ve built on 1”x 2” framework-with Dow foam insulation as the base-and my 12 year old son, walked on it, after climbing through the basement window... All the shelf brackets and concern for a center beam on the 12’ spans-is over kill A few cross braces between the 12 footers will stiffen them fine. I built an 8’ x 8’ shed-it has 2” x 3” under its roof-1/2” OSB-its 20 years old-and I walk my 265# on it a few times a year to clean my gutters. All that hardware and wood is taking 💰 from your train budget😆 And I’m curious what you do to get them dollars...because I buy more than 75% of my trains used..but I do have an awesome LHS Reseller. The latest-that I didn’t know smoked.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/enbNl3-matpgfbM Awesome layout none the less.

Very nice and well thought out. Getting ready to build one for all my MTH trains. Your lower level is exactly what I need. I assume the lower level requires backing the train back down there since I didn't see another entrance to it on the other side of layout? Wait a minute! There is a reverse loop on top level too connected to that loop. I get it.

Wow, that is sweet! What type of shelf supports are you using for the ramp and the lower track along the wall? With the wide open design of your support structure, a small, inclined seat "crawler" would work well for work under the table. I planned to do that with my layout (used a seat from a recumbent trike), but there was just to much support structure to make it work. It is so cool watching the train emerge from the lower level to the main level.

Jason, great work and progress on the new layout! I am local here in the Detroit area. I’m getting ready to put my MTH CSX Coalporter unit train up for sale and wanted to give you 1st crack at it if you are interested. It consists of 4 powered PS2 MTH AC6000s and 51 Black MTH Coalporter hoppers. Let me know if you are interested...

Thank you for thinking of me first! Unfortunately I'll have to pass as there are some other things I have to prioritize financially at the moment. But 51 coal hoppers sounds like an awesome train to run!

If I remember correctly you said in one of your videos that your layout is being featured or was featured in classic toy trains magazine I was wondering what issue that was or what month it will in the news stand. Btw nice work on the new layout can’t wait to see it finished

Correct. Should either be the March or April issue in 2021

Excellent video, also, have you considered running a special/really long train to celebrate the new layout once it's finished/good to run trains?

I will definitely be running a long train once the first big loop is finished.
