jasonthepcmd.bl... The 80GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4 that I've seen in several Dells seems to have a really high failure rate where the drive will suddenly stop detecting. You can help prevent this by updating the firmware.

Wow, it's been about 2 years since I posted this video but now have an apparent fix for this where the drive can be repaired. I no longer work for the company that had all these bad drives, but it would have been good to know about at the time.

These drives were a pure lottery, a small batch has lasted over 10 years, A LOT died in only a couple of years, months and even days with all kinds of symptoms. I feel for the people who had to go through all this RMA bs and quite a bit more for those who lost their money altogether never to be reimbursed.

were you able to bring it up once you updated the firm?

whats the fix? It may be too late for one drive, but i have 3 more 7200.4 500GB drives. How do i fix a 500Gb drive that suddenly stops (system drive) and starts beeping....have had used for 2 years though

You can only update a drive before it fails. Once it has failed, the computer will not detect it and it cannot be updated.

Please do a video tutoria with how you download and burn the CD. I'm more interesting in what files are burned. I'd try to update my seagate (model: ST31000340AS, sn: 5QJ0YKKK).

All that information should be on the Seagate website.
