I agree with him on one thing, I agree that it was way too soon for people to be calling Rousey the greatest of all time. You need more than a 12-0 record to be considered GOAT. Fedor went 31 fights without a loss, Barao went 34 wins without a loss and Silva dominated his division and fought at light heavyweight on a few occasions and looked good there as well. It takes time to be the greatest, and maybe years down the road Ronda will be remembered as a GOAT.

MMA is an incredible SPORT. Boxing has been a thing for a very long time, MMA is only slightly different. If we're going to talk about violence in sports, football is also violent, as is rugby and wrestling and others. Our entire society is based off of violence. We've sent teenagers to fight our wars for the past decade. This dude should get off his high horse. I'm glad Rondas ego was knocked down to size but the hate on the UFC makes no sense. It can be brutal to watch but it's not 'pro-wrestling', these are the best fighters in the world going up against each other. If you can't handle watching two people really fight each other, then maybe steer clear of fighting championships.

There is a no more perfect example of the attitude of the American loyalty 'ethic', especially in the role as fans, than through the internet. Comments and blogs, in particular. And that attitude in Americans is this: jumping on and jumping off bandwagons. When you're hot, or rich, or suddenly become well known, everyone suddenly loves you and wants to be like you. Everyone becomes a hero worshiper. But when that same person loses, everyone drops you. They don't want to know you anymore. They become hypercritical of you, as if they feel humiliated that they adored you and were 'tricked' into thinking that you were perfect when you never were.......This has always been that way with Americans, and Ronda Rousey is the perfect 'object' of how fans act. When her fame rose in the 18-24 months prior to her latest fight, everyone marveled at how she ended her fights faster than contestants spinning the wheel on The Price Is Right. Everyone loved her confidence. Everyone wanted to know about her fascinating background and biography. Everyone noted how attractive she remained while in such a violent sport. Every day, one couldn't get enough of wanting to worship Ronda Rousey! Because of that, she took note of that part of fame and made interviews, movie deals, and tv appearances all over the place. You just know it was consuming her preparation for her upcoming fight against an unknown competitor, who was comparatively allowed time to fully train and prepare herself physically and totally psyche herself for it. So what happened? Ronda, who was never left alone by the media and the masses (fans such as myself), lost. To this day, everyone now suddenly looks at it as Rocky defeating Apollo Creed, and jumps off the Ronda Rousey bandwagon. Suddenly everyone comes out and says that Ronda was totally arrogant and had it coming. Or journalists such as Jason Whitlock saying he's so glad the hype is over. THAT is the attitudinal character flaw of the typical American fan: they only care about the moment. And it is always "subject to change without further notice."

I respect Jason Whitlock but I feel he's partially off-base directly equating fighting with violence. In my opinion, violence is uncontrolled aggression or emotion. It truly is a sign of weakness, however a little controlled aggression paired with preparation and calculation can be a good thing. If you want to succeed at the highest levels, not just in sports, there is no room for uncontrolled anything. Operating on uncontrolled emotion is so mind-numbingly basic and probably the quickest way to fail. I think Rousey is/was an exception to this however. She was able to be hyper-aggressive and violent because her opponents allowed her to and it worked for her.. She'd get into her opponents' heads, bring them into the same dumb emotional state where training and technique fly out the window, and she could fight her fight and brawl them into submission. Rousey is the epitome of a bully. She needs the encounter to be emotional; it's where she's at home, it's what she knows and it's where she's comfortable. But promoting that or using that as a template for other up-and-coming fighters is a terrible message and an egregious mistake by the UFC. Holly Holm, who is a consummate professional with almost 50 fights on her record, took the UFC hype machine and flushed that shit right down the toilet by utilizing real discipline and real technique. She coincidentally happens to be the least aggressive, non-violent person I've seen in a really long time..

Let me tell you something: All the talks about how Ronda lost its been attributed to how good Holly is and that is true but what everybody seems to be missing is how at the 30 second mark, Holly landed a shot that took Ronda out of her fighting mode and from that point it was pure heart, no strategy, she wasn't together. In fighting things like that happens to anybody. A rematch will solidify my point.

you have to take into consideration the quality of the opponents. if someone had just 6 fights but they were knockouts against Tyson, Ali, Klitshco, Mayweather, Holyfied and Lewis in their prime, then maybe you could be forgiven for calling them the greatest of OUR time.

Violence directed at a victim(someone who can't, won't or doesn't want to fight back) can accurately be called weakness. Mutual combat agreed upon between two professional athletes in a prize fight is not weakness. Whitlock is way off base here. Football is a very violent sport. Does that make football players weak? If he really believes that, I'd love to see him tell Jon Jones or either of his brothers that they're weak people because they participate in violent sports.

For example, if Ali went home and beat his wife and kids, that would make him weak but you'd have to be an idiot to believe beating Joe Frazier made him weak.

@thefearmakerlive

Does Whitlock abhor violence, because he's not a person who was ever capable of being good at it? As violence is part of human nature, not just male nature. Male's resorted to it because we're bigger, stronger, and faster, and for thousands of years, violence determined who led our tribes, and kingdoms. But in an age of intellectual enlightment, the person who knows that they couldn't survive if society reverted back to one of violence and/or is scared of it, saying that violence isn't good, may just be strategy based on fear. Having the guts to punch another man in the face and get punched back is never weak. Is it socially acceptable now? No. But it is never weak.

its stupid, we as a species SHOULD ve able to talk out our problems but it seens most people are incapable of rational thought...and dont give me that human nature shit, we are not dogs we flew to the fucking moon and split the atom, if we were slaves to our instincts we would have never gotten near those feats
@thefearmakerlive
@thefearmakerlive 8 жыл бұрын
Violence is rational thought. If I can physically impose my will on you, you will either do what I say or die. Simplicity at it's finest, and a sentiment echoed in most wars today. Also we are more like dogs, or any other mammal, than unlike them. Just because we can achieve higher forms of thinking, doesn't mean that we lose our base instincts that have guided us for 40,000 years. And don't mistake scientific and societal advancement for a lessening of our bloodlust. When the Greeks were creating philosophy, they also had wrestling, boxing, and pankration, which sometimes led to death between opponents. And that's before the Romans and the Coliseums. People that abhor violence are usually people who fear that they can't thrive within it. And of course, if I didn't think I could thrive within a system, I would reject it.

Wow, I see that once someone disproves what you're saying that you instantly turn into a petulant child and hurl ridiculous, unfounded remarks at them, that have no meaning. I guess it must be frustrating to have a small brain and be scared of physical conflict. But first, you know nothing about me, or my beliefs, and the fact that I'm handsome, and you're probably not, hence the lack of picture, makes you want to call me a hermaphrodite because you're insecure, so be it. But no, I'm not a communist, probably grow and have less body hair than you, so you'd more closely resemble an ape, and my kind are definitely not on the decline, especially if you meant the "fittest" and most "adaptable" in Darwin related terms.
