The writing in these scenes was so brilliant, because inside the exposition, the writers perfectly captured Carly's characterization and motivations for Sarah's entire run on GH. It never changed. Literally everything you ever wanted to know about Carly is contained in these scenes.

Except for how she drugged AJ. I wish someone had brought that up. I think that would have shocked even Bobbie to the point where she might not have talked to Carly ever again. Maybe someone would have even filed charges against her for that.

This is when the stories was turned up for real, y'all don't understand, I was an avid soap opera watcher, I watched 9 daytime soap opera shows everyday, not counting the ones at night like Beverly Hills 90210, etc... I was sooo hooked to where I would skip lunch at school and watch it in the classroom, it was really really bad, but now I don't watching any daytime soaps, its too addictive... I did however enjoyed watching them!! ....By the way Sarah Brown is the best Carly Roberts !!

Carly's a rotten person from my perspective but Tony is not blameless here he was quite willing to shack up with Carly my guess he was still bitter about what Bobbie had done with Damien its really to bad because I liked Tony and Bobbie and I thought that had something strong enough to weather hurricane Carly but in reality BJ's death was just to much to weather ....a child can do that.

I think Tony’s anger and grief is part of what makes this storyline so good. Tony’s first marriage to BJ’s mom was his true love. It made Tony more complex because his grief made him not care so much.

Man, but watching early GH... Bobbie was HOOOORRRRIBLE. She had none of Carly's vulnerability, But I guess now we understand why.. growing up the way she did, giving up Carly when she was 16, being a prostitute turned her to stone. And she did whatever was necessary to try to get Scotty.

I felt so bad for bobbie. Now she found out Luke lied & knew almost as long as Carly that bobbie was her mom. He spun some tale to say Caroline was dead & just used the alias Carly Robert's & when Virginia told him the story he used it to make bobbie believe Caroline was dead. Right down to how she died! Carly def inherited her lying tap dancing & weaving a tale from her uncle Luke. I get he was gonna tell bobbie that Carly was her daughter after Virginia showed him carlys yearbook pic & came home to find bobbie just wrecked she found Carly in bed w/ Tony. So he made Caroline be dead to spare bibbie learning her long lost daughter just nailed her husband. So now poor bobbie just got a serious bombshell that Carly was her daughter Micheal her grandson & now she learns her best friend her brother probably the one person she can trust in this world lied to her too & such a vidcioys lie. Bobbie was devastated to learn her adopted child was killed at 17. Luke should have told her the truth ! It sure would have been instant karma for Tony to freak when he learned his wife's daughter he just took to bed. He also would hsve figured out why not for him but to hurt bobbie.

Carly may have been wrong about a lot of things in this situation but lets not pretend like Tony was a victim of circumstances. He was more than happy to maintain his white picket fence life and have Carly on the side. He had a choice, Carly didn't force him into her bed. He was more than happy to have his cake ans eat it too.

You have to go back and watch the GH stuff during 1996/1997 at the Cassadine return. This was during the era where Carly came on the scene around the same time as Nikolas. It tells of how Virginia didn't have a lot of pics of Carly because Carly had destroyed them or taken them. I think it's on the Goku5 playlist where you can see this all unfold. It's a great set of 1996-1999.

I kind of hate how Virginia says she raised Carly "better than this." Clearly, she did not. It would be different if Carly had some sort of mental illness that was out of Virginia's control, but she doesn't (at least, not one that is confirmed by canon). Carly is a product of how she was raised, whether Virginia intended for her to turn out like she did or not. Carly has severe abandonment issues, partly from being given up by Bobbie, and partly because her father left. Virginia didn't abandon her, but she also clearly did not get Carly any help for her issues when she was a child. We don't get a ton of insight into their relationship, but Virginia admits that she was often cold to Caroline, and Carly clearly thinks Virginia blames her for her husband leaving her... there's a lot of emotional trauma going on there. Later on, Carly tells Sonny that when she and Virginia would fight, Virginia would give up and say she couldn't take it anymore, and then take Carly to the beach, and they would just not address the problems. But Bobbie and Virginia both agree that neither of them are to blame for how Carly turned out... apparently, it's not a matter of nature vs nurture, they both decided that nature AND nurture are equally irrelevant. Carly just happened to be a walking disaster, and none of her parents had any hand in that, apparently. I know a lot of people hated Carly as a character, but really, I think she is largely misunderstood. She's not mean for the sake of being mean. She lashes out as a defense mechanism. She's so afraid of abandonment and rejection that she hurts everyone around her, so they can't hurt her. It's easier to be hated for something that you did, rather than be hated for who you are, and Carly wants everyone to love her, but expects everyone to hate her. This is why she latches onto Jason so tightly. It's also why she does such insane, over-the-top stuff to try to control situations. She is protecting herself the only way she knows how, and that is by lying and hurting everyone around her. This doesn't mean she's a good person, but it means she has the potential to become a good person... she doesn't hurt people because she likes to see people hurt. She hurts them because she thinks they will hurt her... there's a big difference, and she can learn to trust and she can change and be a better person. I also wish they had delved into Virginia and Carly's relationship more, because I think Virginia lying to Carly probably had a lasting impact on her. She not only didn't tell Carly she was adopted, she went out of her way to pretend that she'd given birth to her. When Carly learned the truth, it shattered her world. Virginia was her mother, the person who was supposed to love her and protect her, and she lied to her. I think that probably caused a major identity crisis for Carly, and it was probably a factor in why she started calling herself by different names. Her mother lied to her about the very essence of who she was... it would be hard enough to find out you were adopted and didn't know, but it would be so much harder when your parent went out of their way to make you think you were their biological child first. I can't say whether it's better to let kids know they are adopted from the start, or wait until they are older, but I think lying to them about it probably is the worst way to go about it.
