Have Cane Corsos just been the victim of poor media portrayal or are they as dangerous as the media makes them out to be? Let me explain why a Cane Corso can be so dangerous and let you decide if this breed is right for you to bring into your home. There are many factors to consider when getting any breed of dog such as your lifestyle, temperament of the breed, what the breed is bred to do, size, how much time you have, etc etc. Living with 2 Cane Corsos this is what I have learned over the past 6 plus years living with this magnificent breed and what can make them so dangerous.

Unfortunately in Edmonton here an 11 year old boy was killed by two cane corsos. So heart breaking. There were many complaints about these two dogs. It was poor ownership.

Horrifying, and such dumb people around. There was an attack in the US in which the owner left his new girlfriend and child to mind the house for a weekend with 5 entire males inside. To put a cherry on top he left a female in heat in the laundry.

@@vikkiwilson5069 oh that is my favourite when they do that!! I suspect that is what happened when that fella was mauled in threat backyard recently. A bunch of breeding males with bitches in heat without a proper protocol for feeding . Then top it off by putting a unfamiliar person to take care of them while all this is going on. It’s dumb

I have 2 corsi too. Captain and Morgan, 2.5 and 4 yrs old. (NON-BREEDING) Your videos have been inspirational, informative, and amazingly awesome!!! I have 2 corsi that can go out in public. We camp alot and we travel, so they go everywhere with us and i had to have them be good, non-reactive, and strict heal. Love ur videos. I gave up pitties for these guys. So good with my grandkids, great out in public, and no one enters out property without an invite. My female is the perimeter guardian at our home. She has killed cyotes, raccoons, and even a small hog that broke into the chicken coop. My male is strictly a guard dog in the house. He only chases balls and fire logs. Lol Best breed ever and you are an amazing ambassador for the breed!! Well done!!

Baloo is my first Corso. He was A LOT of work early on. He’s not perfect, but I see the benefit of that work today at 4 years old. And we train daily. I love this breed and am one of their biggest champions. But it is not a breed for weak willed or undisciplined people. And that’s not meant to be an insult; it’s a fact. If you know you cannot maintain the level of discipline and authority this breed of dog needs in a leader, then DO NOT GET ONE. Period.

"every interaction is a training session" Totally, I just train my Corso through the day whenever the opportunity occurs, focusing on impulse-control. I've never trained more than 10 minutes at a time, and we train/play off-leash at the park every day: she turned out great. She's cool with dogs and people when out BUT she could be dangerous guarding the house. You gotta understand what you have got. I've never trained a dog before but I swore I wouldn't fail the dog - I watched about 10,000 videos. Training this way really works.

Love my Shadow...I'm a 6'6", 240lb former athlete. Shadow has knocked a crown out of my mouth while playing, broken my ring finger when I had him by the collar & he saw a squirrel, & almost broke my knee cap when I stepped over him & he got up to follow me before I had a chance to put my foot down. I had to readjust in midair & in doing so, knocked my kneecap straight into the corner of my sliding glass door frame. That one cost me 13 stitches. lol!! I rescued him from being abandoned at a bus stop across my farm at 5/6months old. He weighed in at 33lbs the day we met, & he is a healthy 110lbs five months later 💪🏼❤️

You show how much time, training and love it takes to truly raise a dog like this properly. I guess if you just want a backyard security dog you won't have to but then the dog won't have the love it deserves.

My 29 yr old daughter was attacked by her friends CC. this last New Years eve. He's very very large. He tore through her bottom lip and tore open her cheek. The dog was in a closed room but was going crazy. His human mom went to check on him and he over powered her. My daughter and her husband were holding trays of food and he knocked down my daughter. This was the 2nd attack that he had done. Their friends paid for all of the bills, and animal control took the dog and euthanized him. The Er Dr said that she is lucky that she still has her face. Dog was .not really socialized and the owners always had to put a muzzle on him when they want for walks. So why they didn't muzzle him before hand is crazy.

As a delivery employee, you’re doing gods work. The amount of co workers who get bit/grabbed and shaken is so frequent i’d say expect to get into a standoff with a dog every other day and get bit once a month. I have little faith in any large dog owner and 0 faith in ranchers/rural free roam dogs. Those are the dogs that will kill you because they’re owner trained them to.

Great video as always and I appreciate how real you keep it. Unfortunately many people get certain breeds because of what they see on Social media or in movies, without doing the research on what it takes to raise the dogs well and develop the relationship that you have developed with your dogs. It takes time and dedication as you have said - and if that commitment cant be made people should take an honest decision not to do it as then bad reputations are developed around certain dog breeds. Great work as always!

This is one of the few dogs I think people should have a special license to own. I am normally against that idea, but every single one of them that has come into the vet clinic where she works has tried to attack her just for walking into the room. Owners are barely able to hold them back long enough for her to exit and then get offended over the idea of a muzzle for the safety of the staff. If you are going to have a dog like this I think it is extremely important to be realistic. I appreciate this video. I think in addition to what he put forth muzzle training for high stress situations such as vet visits should be a must. No one deserves to be sent to the hospital while trying to help provide care for your animal. The animal doesn’t deserve to be put down, which it will be, because owners have more ego and emotion than sense. I have LGDs and when they need vet care I ask the vet what they are comfortable with and we go with that. I even make sure they are allowed to sedate them if they feel it’s necessary. No ego on my part, no “ but he’s a really good boy” even though they are, I’m just realistic about the type of dogs I have so that we can all stay safe and happy.

I love this so much, when you have giants, you have to be aware of even the accidental damage. My Great Dane puppy is 8 months old and 70kg/150ibs, he’s a sweetheart, who doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body. My boy who I lost last year was 92kg/202lbs, he was a registered therapy dog, did tv and photo shoots, a show dog and just a sweetheart. He was a massive dog, who accidentally knocked me unconscious, these giants can accidentally hurt you, we need to understand that.

People often don't realize that they are also loyal to a fault so their guardian temperament if not trained will still kick in in high stress situations. If they have not been taught what to do or taught the wrong thing to do in their mind they will be doing what they think is want you would want from them. If this means protecting you from an assumed threat ..... please please be strong enough and responsible enough and love them enough to be the alpha they need❤

It’s so important to train as well as love our dogs. But it’s even more important when they are a powerful large breed dog. My pug for instance, isn’t much of a threat, but he enjoys the mental stimulation of training. I realize I do not have the personality for a large breed dog, I’m more of a baby talk, passive type person, so having a goofy tiny dog bred for companionship/ being a lap dog is best for me. But BW and JJ are so gorgeous and amazing I just love watching your channel. I’d love to see one in person so we’ll trained!

If you trip over a small dog, you'll move the dog and probably hurt it, but if you trip over a a large dog, you're going down. My bull mastiff nailed me by accident, he was looking down, and I bent down to look at his face, he didn't realize, stepped forward and looked up quickly and smashed his eye brow into my mouth. There was a crunch (thankfully I didn't break my nose or lose a tooth) but I was seeing stars and tasted blood bc the inside of my lip split. I was quite lucky. And he didn't even realize mommy was hurt, he did give me cuddles later after I got sorted out. Love my Bull Mastiff, but just walking furry tanks.

Who ever had him first, must have terrorized him because a dog who is so muscular and imposing is terrified of everything .It's breaks my heart to have to reassure him he's ok . And your right it is the owners. He's an amazing dog who is so gentle with my 85 yr old mom . Great breed. But yeah they are powerful. He was playing with me and jumped and hit me with his paw in the ribs. 😢 Caused bruised ribs. Still best pet I've ever had. Next to my Colombian redtail boa constrictor.

Hey Jason! It's been a while since I've been able to get on here and watch and I've missed BW's and JJ's handsome faces a lot. You're exactly right in saying that a lot of what happens with these breeds is the owners not working with pup properly. I'd have to say this is about 90% of the issue. Yes, there are dogs that unfortunately do have mental issues, just as humans and other animals do. A lot of what plays into this is genetics. Which is why it is also important to do extensive research on breeders. Some breeders (responsible breeders) breed their pups for optimal genetics/characteristics (ie the best temperament, health (both mental and physical), etc.). But then there are those breeders (crappy irresponsible breeders) who breed just for the money and give no thought about how important a role genetics plays. Improper breeding can lead to an aggressive giant, just as improper training can. Some dogs need more than just a strong leader/trainer. They also need someone who is experienced and educated in breed/genetic specifics. This, along side being warned by multiple breeders to not have two males in the home, is why I chose our Bullmastiff baby. Because I'm more experienced in nearly everything having to do with them. However, I would still love to work with a Cane Corso. As for injury's: unfortunately, it's very difficult to find stats on accidental injuries because the news loves to fear monger specific breeds, and even accidental injuries are listed as "attacks". I can say that my personal accidental injuries sustained by my Bullmastiff pups have been two swollen and purple knees (my left knee from our first BM accidentally sliding into me while on the floor playing (the only time he ever hurt me), and my right knee is still bruised from our current BM puppy from pretty much the same incident as the first..), minor rotator cuff damage on both shoulders at different times from our BM puppy getting excited and not having good impulse control yet, a cut to my nose during play time when our BM puppy's (now 7mo) tooth caught me, but I've also been body checked a few times. My husband has been head butted, has also had small cuts from a k9 graze or two, had been body checked a few times himself, and has been bruised on his forearm during playtime when our BM puppy went for his toy but accidentally grabbed his arm instead. I can say with absolutely certainty that our current 7mo BM puppy is the complete opposite of our late BM. Current pup takes after his Bully side more in temperament, whereas our late BM took after his mastiff side more...(genetics!!😁). Bottom line: -extensive research on not just the breed, but the breeders themselves. -constant training is a must, along with strong leadership. -consistency is absolute must. -and understanding in animal behavior is also extremely helpful. There's so much I could go on about these majestic giants, but I think this is long enough. Sorry for that BTW. My vet med brain gets going and doesn't want to stop sometimes😂❤

Back around 1990, I was playing a usual game with my female 50 lb Pitbull (holding a toy in the air and having her run and jump to grab it), and instead she ran right into my knee at top speed. To this day, that knee isn't fully recovered. I can only imagine what a similarly solid and energetic dog weighing three times that could do to a person by running into them at top speed.

Two days ago my friends dog was attacked by one of these dogs. Ruby (the dog that was attacked) is full of puncture wounds and can hardly walk. It took three people to get the dog off of her. The dog was put down a few hours later. I blame the owners of the Cane Corso. Now, a dog is injured and another is dead. Really sad.

One of Robert Cabral's guests on his podcast rescues mastiff breeds and has mentioned corsos are now the dog attributed to the most fatalities in america having surpassed the pit bull type breed. Is this true? IDK but we are seeing the rise of more corsos, boerbol, and presa dogs. The newest trend are people getting ahold of the asian steppe livestock guardian breeds like Kangal, Caucasian Shephard, and Alibai. Those things are monsters.

From my own experience of my rescue labrador which would be dwarfed by a cane corso, I discovered that simply being out with him walking through woods, fields, off the lead, I twisted ny ankles and fell sometimes just walking on rough terrain, he tripped me up by suddenly changing direction, I got knocked over once by him playing as a boistrous adolescent and play-rushing me from the side, one time running in the woods with him I fell and tore cartiledge off my ankle bone which required surgery - he was a sweetheart and had no aggression in him by the way, this was all incidental stuff. Having a strong dog around was a real eye opening experience, I realised that medium+ dog ownership presents a real risk of accidental injury to the owner and I feel that must be 50x more with a huge breed like the beautiful cane corso, magnificent but their sheer size, weight and capabilities have to be respected.

I have been raised with Boxers my entire life and my mother was too, her father as well. However, I have been wanting a corso for about 4 years now. I’m trying to learn all I can but I know this is a big change from the boxer breed. I have two boxers currently-my oldest is a female who is 11 years old and our younger boxer is now 3 years old. They do protect but I would love to add a corso to our pack for extra protection. Any thoughts? One more thing, we have three children 12,10,&7

A pair of Cane Corsos have just killed a 12 year old kid in Edmonton. The dogs have a documented history of aggression in the past few months. Regardless of training, when control is lost the breed becomes a killer and they cannot be pulled off the victim. With some exceptions, other dogs will not kill because they can be pulled off. Saying “ in the majority of cases” the dog is not at fault is dodging the issue. It’s the minority of cases that are the problem.

This is why my second Cane Corso is my last. My husband is not a strong leader. Even with just the 2 of us I can't have a dog that won't listen to him when I'm asleep/working/out of the house. If it was up to me, I'd never own another dog but my household dictates otherwise. My first Corso was voted most wanted by the vet techs when my vet asked what dog they would want if they could have any patient of the clinic. I like to think I did a good job with him. Also, I love that you walk both on your left and not one on each side. Seeing that drives me nuts.

Calm, loving, enjoys rubs and kisses...LOL Best dog. Is he a guardian? F8ck yes!! I pray for whoever goes into the house uninvited! He's 152 lbs of muscle!! Intimidating as heck. Much great information on many breeds, lots of people just dont realize the power of these animals, not bite force but the sheer strength and size, a triggered dog this size can take a person or animal down dragging its owner. I own a Rhodesian Ridgeback, she's just 78 lbs, her bite force is absolutely ridiculous, and her strength is absolutely crazy. She is a big baby, that thinks she is a small dog. Triggered, it would be all I could do to hold her back. She is a great protector, and guard dog, I've only seen her triggered once, by a larger Doberman, the flip from protect to unbridled aggression was not pretty, there was no fight, but that 180 degree flip is terrifying, I never want to see her in that mode again, and I haven't. Like I said she a big baby, but the chance is always there, and it can flip in an instant

I have owned several Rottweilers for at least 40 years but now that I am 60 years old I walk with a cane and I don’t have the stability. I once did however, I am an experienced dog trainer and the owner, that is as far as the Rottweiler is concerned. I would love to have Cane Corsos. However, I am afraid I don’t have the strength to raise one as I once did with my Rottweilers, by the way, I also owned several Chow Chows. And as you probably know, the chow chow is an extremely aggressive breed as well. I am afraid of your answer, but I’m going to ask it anyway if I got your breed from a puppy having the experience that I do but not the physical strength any longer would it still be possible to own one? I live in the woods in Idaho. He has 20 acres to run if I were to get him or her your opinion is much appreciated. Thank you.

I will never forget when a male Cane Corso ripped apart a female hunting dog in front of me. The dog spotted the female many meters away, suddenly freed himself from the leash and attacked directly the unaware dog. I was unable to stop him. This was an unsocialized shelter dog I was evaluating as a trainer. He caught me by surprise and I will never forget the scene. Blood everywere. Finally with the help of two more people and a waterhose we were able to separate the Corso. The female dog underwent emergency surgery and survived. But it was a life lesson for me.
