Voww what a great fact stated - in celibate life, the joys are within but the crosses are showing ... and in marriages , the crosses are hidden , but joy is evident...

Hello Jason, you gave a talk at my school when I was in 8th Grade :)) I've just turned 20 :) I remember it and I've never forgotten it. Hope you're doing well. I have a question and I'd love to hear what you have to say. What does the bible say about not wanting children in a marriage? What do you think about this and your reasonings behind it? Thanks God Bless xoxo

Hi Angeline, One of the promises made by spouses during the wedding liturgy is that they will generously welcome children into their marriage. In fact, if a couple contracepts throughout their marriage, the Church does not recognize the validity of the marriage at all. Now, this does not mean that every couple needs to be fruitful in order to be married, as is the case of those who marry beyond child-bearing years. Biblically, this is based upon the first command given by God, which is to be fruitful and multiply. The function of marriage is for the procreation of children and the mutual sanctification of the spouses. Now, if a couple has a serious reason to postpone pregnancy, they can have recourse to NFP. But, "not wanting kids" for example would not constitute a serious reason. Rather, the Church would invite such persons to examine their reasons for not wanting their love to go beyond them, to children, grandchildren, etc... For example, is there a fear at the core of this hesitation, or perhaps a wound or even selfishness? Each case is unique, but sometimes these hesitancies need to be challenged and healed for the couple's love to more fully reflect who they are called to be: a visible icon of the life-giving love of God.

@Jason Evert. Why do you always refer to young couples. What about those that are middle aged and annulled and dating again. The struggle is harder when you are not a virgin

If you live in the 1900 you probably can find that love … good luck whoever believes in this unrealistic standard, not in 2022.
